  • do you hear the harpsichord? oh my lord it sounds so good...

  • is that standing composer vivaldi? this version sounds extremely genuine

  • @BeyondDestiny I agree that it sounds genuine but I would add that it has a rustic sounds which in my opinion other players do not seem to get. Kennedy sound too clinical for my liken. I think this version reflects the English seasons. Where as Kennedy et al set out to capture the Italian seasons e.g. an Italian summer is over poweringly hot compared to an English summer. I relate to the English summer therefore this version appeals to me.

  • Who wrote that poem in the beginning? I really liked it.

  • @moviefan221 Well, there are two poems, as you call them, in the beginning:

The part in the verry beginning is from the Book of Ecclesiastes 3:1 of the Bible (the King James Version). And then there is Vivaldi's Sonnet, which was written to go along with the music and there's one for each of the 4 concertos.

  • @moviefan221 Ecclesiastes. It's in the Bible.

  • great video , the poetry in the begining really sets the mode (or mood (srry bad english) :D)

  • one of my favourites

  • Does anyone recognize Micheal Hordern from "Theater of Blood'?

  • HBD Vivaldi !!!!!!!

  • a time to listen this beautiful song!

  • A time for you to realise that this is how Vivaldi performed his music. The sonnets being read were used by Vivaldi when he performed his Four Seasons!

  • testing comment box

  • That's a huge classical, but i still do prefer the Winter I.

  • . . .

And revel in the Joy of Life reborn !!!

  • This verse was read at my Grandma's funeral.

  • That is very touching. My deepest sympathies.

  • Neither can I think of a more fitting tribute to anyone.

  • @Tonedefdom i hear ya dude, twas read at my grandad's funeral too, i think its a common verse for funerals :/

  • Exept from Fur Elise and Sym no 40 from Motzart, this is the single most mindblowing piece ever done.

  • Who wrote the poetry. Is it Vivaldi ??, it just maches the music beautiful.

  • God. It is from Ecclsastes ll

  • :) Good answer. This is a beautiful rendition of "Spring."

  • Sorry for the typos. Was blown away by the sounds!

  • The poetry starting from 2:09 is written by Vivaldi.

  • I don't like spring as a season, but I love the way this just captures everything about Spring, the way nature slows down in a deep hibernation and then slow and vivaciously comes back to life! Amazing! Vivaldi caught on music what artists strive to capture on canvas!

  • Absoulutelly great preformed Vivaldi spring best version i really liked the ending and the story before the music really get's you in the mood to listen that kind of song !!! 5 star classic

  • It's well done, but there are others who make up it fastely

  • My favorite Vivaldi's song!

  • It's really great isn't it?

  • It's magninificent!

  • I concure.

  • My absolute favorite.

  • Yes! That's it.

  • too slow

  • Then you are pig headed ignorant. The narrator

is Michael Hordern, he is also a renowned actor. He is reading sonnets. These sonnets were used by Vivildi(it is not known if he wrote them himself), they are not recent addition to the music.

  • Wow, it's Michael Hordern? I love him! He's got such a warm voice. And I agree, it's good to have the sonnets going with the music. Interesting though, the version Hordern reads is translated differently to the one on Wiki, and I wonder where he gets all the initial stuff from, the 'a time' speech, that's not part of the spring sonnet. Either way, nice prelude to the actual music

  • DrMontague, I agree and love the intro! If a person doesn't like something on youtube, there are plenty other choices for them. Thank you!

  • i like this kind of stuff it is alot better than RAP!

  • I have heard so many "versions" or composers play this but this one wows me I love it. I just close my eyes and "wow". This has always been one of my favorite classics but this post, I luv it, thank you for posting it

  • Very beautiful I'm 15

  • Yes it is beautiful. I was there when Vivaldi first performed it.

  • That's nothing man. I was there when he composed it.

  • I used to child mind him, it was me who got him into music rather than painting.

  • Alright that surely surpasses my acquantaince with Antonio. Which street in Venice do you live, good sir?

  • Hahahahaha, very lucky boys!

  • So beautiful... ^^

I find it so hard to find culture these days.

For those of you thinking that i am some 84 year old lady, im a 12 year old boy.

  • wow arn't you something special

  • Good for you :) I'm 17 and always trying to find ways to get my heavy metal/rock friends to appreciate even just a tiny bit of classical music!

  • Dude, I adore heavy metal, but Classical owns! I'm actually learning how to play Vivaldi's Eb concerto on guitar.

  • Haha, sounds good! I have to say, I'm kinda tired of guitars in this modern world, when there's music like this out there, but as long as you upkeep that opinion of classical's greatness you'll always be in my good books ;) hehe

  • @Ykzier

    Let's get married.

  • oh my god soo soo exquisite ! it makes me feel weird... so good

  • 5:28 solo, you must play faster than that. I don't want to boast, but I can do better than that.

  • beautiful magnificent....

  • Very beautiful classical music...

  • this is not classical music, vivaldi did barroque music...

  • ... Baroque music is a style of European classical music.

  • You are correct. Classical music is now the generic term for all European music which can be loosely describe as orchestral in flavour, notated, and non electric. The Classical period in Western music occurred from about 1750 to 1820,The Classical period falls between the Baroque and the Romantic periods. The best known composers from this period are Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven.

  • Beautiful.

  • just close the eyes and let ur imagination fly......magnific moments ....enjoying the summer breeze.....

  • Or spring's, maybe? :D

  • lol ,yes coz is from the title ...the spring season. but anyone can have free imagination

  • Actual play starts at 03:05 for first-time-watchers.

  • One part is susposed to be birds singing. :) I think it's the part w/the piccilos(sp?)

  • what is the name of the book he is reading?

  • The four seasons (four concertos) were written to go along with four sonnets. Though it is not known who wrote these sonnets there is a theory that Vivaldi wrote them himself.

    Wikipedi

If you want the sonnets you can find them at wikipedia.

  • As I said you are a totally pig headed ignorant person. You probably think that you're intelligent and excellent music critic. In reality you know absolutely fuck all about music. As a child you were probably abused by a priest. Now fuck off and die.

  • @DrMontague that sure shut critics up...

  • Comment removed

  • @DrMontague i think you need to relax.

  • I was listening to this in my music class the other day and I almost wanted to cry. My professor put it on surround sound speakers and it was just so beautiful! It took me back to when I was a kid and use to listen to my mother's collection of classical music.

    Thank you for posting!

  • I always love this sonata ever since I first heard it when I was 8 years old.

  • i listen that which i enjoy or conveys a sense of reason. vivaldi's spring paints spring brings spring alive

  • muy bello, pero el solo que tiene el primer violin a mi criterio como violinista suena sucio no me gustó

  • absolutly magnificent

  • I certaunly love it

  • Beautiful!

  • The four seasons was the first piece of music I ever listened to at an age of 3-5. I was in love with a trinity of the music, my dad's elegant B&O record player from the 70's and the record cover with a Botticelli painting on the front. What a little nerd I was :-)

  • Vivaldi was one of the best composers and this piece is amazing!

  • best season of vivaldi!!

    XDD

  • I like this song... attempted it but i am not that good.

  • Sweet perfection!

  • the intro is far too loooonng!the music is good, so it is worth the wait!

  • your.... not.... kidding.... *snore*

  • er... if you don't know how to appreciate music, i suggest you don't watch this capice?

  • you misunderstood what i meant... and looking back now - i see how dumb my comment was. vivaldi is my favourite composer (i play the cello and violin in a quartet, and love playing vivaldi)... i think this peice is so beautiful, that it makes me relaxed and sleepy - which was in reply to someone elses comment in the first place. dont jump to conclusions - read all comments befor you reply yourself

  • well it seemed kind of obvious that you weren't appreciative because if you were you would have used proper grammar, i know it seems stereotypical but people who don't have the time to correct things usually can't appreciate anything else of that level of magnitude

  • agreed. you seem to know your stuff - are you a musician too?

  • Thanks for the great music

  • a lot of kids my age like rap and stuff like that but these composers are my favorites. Vivaldi, Bach, Beethoven, Gershwin, and many other ones. i LOVE "Rhapsody in Blue" composed by George Gershwin, its amazing.

  • THAT IS WHAT WE NEED TO LISTIN

  • are they wearing shoulder rests?

  • the could be wearing something inside...

  • Thank you!...Vivaldi is one of my favorite composers:)

  • Thank you, Dr.Montague, for the fantastic posting. It is such a relief from the chaos outside.

  • but isn't that suppose to be a spring breeze instead :D

I just love the music <3 VIVALDI ROCK

  • great!!

    thanks so much!!

  • Tears get out from my eyes when i hear such a great piece like this

  • Whenever I hear this piece I close my eyes and I see myself lying in a field of flowers watching the clounds above and just enjoying the summer breeze..I hope it doesnt sound so corny but that is what I always imagine when I hear this piece..

  • No, it doesn't sound corny. That's how Antonio Vivaldi inspired himself when he composed this beautiful piece. Enjoy!!!

  • holy shit!! thts exactly wat i'm thinkin right now

  • No, it's not corny. Just replace Summer with Spring and you got it lol.

  • C'est très bon et beau, cette musique est magnifique.:-)

  • Thanks.. gorgeous!!

  • Musical Bliss!

  • Finally something useful on youtube instead of a video of someone jumping out of tree or something stupid like that. Thanks!

  • amazin

    nice job

  • Am I wrong or that passage he recites is indeed Ecclesiastes'?

  • yes it is

  • awesome incredible thanks

  • That was 6:43 of heaven..

  • WONDERFULL
