@BeyondDestiny I agree that it sounds genuine but I would add that it has a rustic sounds which in my opinion other players do not seem to get. Kennedy sound too clinical for my liken. I think this version reflects the English seasons. Where as Kennedy et al set out to capture the Italian seasons e.g. an Italian summer is over poweringly hot compared to an English summer. I relate to the English summer therefore this version appeals to me.
@moviefan221 Well, there are two poems, as you call them, in the beginning:
The part in the verry beginning is from the Book of Ecclesiastes 3:1 of the Bible (the King James Version). And then there is Vivaldi's Sonnet, which was written to go along with the music and there's one for each of the 4 concertos.
A time for you to realise that this is how Vivaldi performed his music. The sonnets being read were used by Vivaldi when he performed his Four Seasons!
I don't like spring as a season, but I love the way this just captures everything about Spring, the way nature slows down in a deep hibernation and then slow and vivaciously comes back to life! Amazing! Vivaldi caught on music what artists strive to capture on canvas!
Absoulutelly great preformed Vivaldi spring best version i really liked the ending and the story before the music really get's you in the mood to listen that kind of song !!! 5 star classic
is Michael Hordern, he is also a renowned actor. He is reading sonnets. These sonnets were used by Vivildi(it is not known if he wrote them himself), they are not recent addition to the music.
Wow, it's Michael Hordern? I love him! He's got such a warm voice. And I agree, it's good to have the sonnets going with the music. Interesting though, the version Hordern reads is translated differently to the one on Wiki, and I wonder where he gets all the initial stuff from, the 'a time' speech, that's not part of the spring sonnet. Either way, nice prelude to the actual music
I have heard so many "versions" or composers play this but this one wows me I love it. I just close my eyes and "wow". This has always been one of my favorite classics but this post, I luv it, thank you for posting it
Haha, sounds good! I have to say, I'm kinda tired of guitars in this modern world, when there's music like this out there, but as long as you upkeep that opinion of classical's greatness you'll always be in my good books ;) hehe
You are correct. Classical music is now the generic term for all European music which can be loosely describe as orchestral in flavour, notated, and non electric. The Classical period in Western music occurred from about 1750 to 1820,The Classical period falls between the Baroque and the Romantic periods. The best known composers from this period are Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven.
The four seasons (four concertos) were written to go along with four sonnets. Though it is not known who wrote these sonnets there is a theory that Vivaldi wrote them himself.
Wikipedi
If you want the sonnets you can find them at wikipedia.
You are a precious princess Dr Montague. I don't give a flying fuck who the narrator is, he is boring and he drones on. Now grow a spine and stop throwing hissy fits at the slightest criticism, you silly little girl.
As I said you are a totally pig headed ignorant person. You probably think that you're intelligent and excellent music critic. In reality you know absolutely fuck all about music. As a child you were probably abused by a priest. Now fuck off and die.
I was listening to this in my music class the other day and I almost wanted to cry. My professor put it on surround sound speakers and it was just so beautiful! It took me back to when I was a kid and use to listen to my mother's collection of classical music.
The four seasons was the first piece of music I ever listened to at an age of 3-5. I was in love with a trinity of the music, my dad's elegant B&O record player from the 70's and the record cover with a Botticelli painting on the front. What a little nerd I was :-)
you misunderstood what i meant... and looking back now - i see how dumb my comment was. vivaldi is my favourite composer (i play the cello and violin in a quartet, and love playing vivaldi)... i think this peice is so beautiful, that it makes me relaxed and sleepy - which was in reply to someone elses comment in the first place. dont jump to conclusions - read all comments befor you reply yourself
well it seemed kind of obvious that you weren't appreciative because if you were you would have used proper grammar, i know it seems stereotypical but people who don't have the time to correct things usually can't appreciate anything else of that level of magnitude
a lot of kids my age like rap and stuff like that but these composers are my favorites. Vivaldi, Bach, Beethoven, Gershwin, and many other ones. i LOVE "Rhapsody in Blue" composed by George Gershwin, its amazing.
Whenever I hear this piece I close my eyes and I see myself lying in a field of flowers watching the clounds above and just enjoying the summer breeze..I hope it doesnt sound so corny but that is what I always imagine when I hear this piece..
do you hear the harpsichord? oh my lord it sounds so good...
