"I think when ordinary working people come home, turn on the TV and see a gala of a bunch of people, at a rich gala all subsidized by taxpayers claiming their subsidies aren't high enough. I'm not sure that's something that resonates with ordinary people."
CONServatives cut nearly $50 million in 2007, eliminated touring programs for art, reduced tax incentives for productions, suggested a review panel that would screen submissions and determine if they met standards, and more
I dont really get why they make so much less then americans that doesnt really make sense to me at all less then the average income I think thats wrong, actors are supposed to make good money what? I know it differs everywhere but what?
why would stephen harper say that, he must be jealous or not no his facts just because people are famous and have money their whiners, look everyone whines once in a while and I dont get that, hes like stereotyping people, and they dont do anything for the average canadian? what their people humans that try the best they can to be good people and actors that entertain
and he saves energy so do i! i love the environment and i always tell my dad to unplug stuff if he isnt using it kuz just kuz youre not using it doesnt mean it doesnt use energy still kuz it does!
Ignorance all Stephen Harper suggested was that if one intends to be a professional Artist they must do so on their own merit the industry will decide whether they make money or not. He simply wanted to get rid of the artist welfare which seems very reasonable does it not. If an auto worker can no preform good on the assembly line he does not get a worker grant from the government.
If a child in school is not offered art because the government refuses to give anything to public schools than he's not going to be "judged by the industry." Is art all about the "industry?" Art is art...people who are bankers can be artists if they wanted to. The fact that someone would have the sheer gall and stupidity to label an entire group of people into 1 category, which is dreadfully untrue, is ridiculous. Artists are not in the top 1%..more like wealthy heirs
@MichaelPeterHyde Actually, the money was to subsidize festivals and whatnot, there is no such thing as "artists welfare", however, ask the oil companies what they do with billions in tax cuts and benignity annually.
how about going to school and getting a good job that pays a decent wage, i don't think government subsidizing arts and culture does much - essentially you can't sell it to people so you ask government to give you money - quite silly, why not call it what it is just welfare which government already provides
um...Arts are important for culture and such....all forms of arts like dance studios especially are lacking in money and can barely afford to stay open.
You're missing the point. Harper described artists as "wealthy whiners." Wealth? Where? I think he presented these cuts under false pretenses.
People don't become artists for the money, but we do need to eat.
Everytime you look at a house, a building, a movie, a song, a book, a live show that made you feel something or opened your mind, or needed visuals to explain abstract concepts in your education. Remember that it was all made possible because of artists. Not conspiring welfare whores.
I do my dishes by hand just because I think it's better for me. I've seen my friends use it and they get mad cuz they don't always get the crap off it and the soap stays on it.
I thoroughly enjoyed the idea behind this video as well as Mike Lobel's witty antics and tongue-in-cheekiness. Come on, a day spa? That's hilarious! A walk in closet? Gold!
Also, I reckon his abode pales in comparison to the relative luxury of 22 Sussex Drive. No?
I only wish I had caught it before the election to really spread the word! Well done.
I worked at a grocery store! I didn't get a frigging penny from anyone... other than what my stupid job paid! Would it be OK, if I went and asked for some 45 million because you cannot live on a weekly(?) salary! I'll admit the grocery store industry supports itself, and us stockboys look like we're living it up... but that penny bag was even beyond my means! I am taking up buskin'!!!
Wow. Here in the US,people who don't even have any talent is showered with money. And, then in Canada their talent and artists aren't even getting what they deserve.
he figures he should be a success at 24. awesome. most ppl think of a successful career til they have been in a career longer than 5 years. why didn't the cbc crew interview someone like nickelback, some who are successful. let's see their crib
imagine running into him at the loblaws.. ^_^
