We had a kitten that the father was not allowed to be around. I don't know if he would have attacked the baby or not, but I have heard males will kill disabled kittens. This baby was born with both his back legs broken, and with what we called kitty down syndrome, complete with droopy eyes. The cat was gentle, we just took the precaution until the kitten could get around better.
so sweet, so beautiful and precious. You have a beautiful kitty family there!
A few years ago I had a litter where the daddy kitty was very attentive and loving to the kittens and mother. I love that he was such a great daddy. And he is still very caring with those kitties, and they are a few years old now!
the dad to my kittens is a bit crazy am scared hes gonna hurt them...u so lucky that u have a ffather cat whos kind :)) the father cat to my kittens name is lucky :P
Sigh...I SOOO wish my male and female could get along!! EVER since day 1 of their birth, the male cat has been attacked by the mom, and now its an ongoing WAR in my home! I literally have to lock up JACK at nite to get rest!!! Any advice??
@Neosilver17 A male cat will only try to kill kittens that aren't his in order to mate with the female. And it's my understanding that this generally happens with feral cats.
They are a lovely little family! It's obvious from watching this that the daddy is very protective of his mate and his babies. :]
Beign a cat owner I find this video very heartwarming. Your male cat shows more responsability than a lot of human dads. Maybe we need to take a lesson from mother nature and do like the animals do.
I absolutely adore the kittens. And yeah I can see why many people think that father cats do not care about their kittens. This ignorance is based on the fact that most wild male felines except for lions do not care for their cubs but in the case with male domestic cats it's different. The truth is, a male cat generally tolerates his own kittens. Is just that unlike dogs, most male cats don't often spend time with the kittens as much as the female, especially with newborns, but eventually love'm

@feliciafan Good for you hun. It doesn't seem to matter where ya go or what video you're posting/watching, when you scroll down, there will ALWAYS be idiots who think they know better than anyone else. Lol I couldn't see a single thing wrong with this video. And I could be wrong, but is it rare that daddy cats do this? Cuz I sure have never seen it happen. ;D
I have had cats for my entire life but I've never heard of a father that killed his kittens. The mother is protecitve of her kittens. Point is: She's deciding who handles / cuddle her kittens herself. As long as that's being respected, no one has a problem with anything at all.
I think people are confused. male felines (cats & lions) will only kill another male's babies (in the case of lions a rival prides cubs). This is so that the grown female will get in heat again and sire his own kittens/cubs.
@luvsmovies79 i love people that actually know what they're talking about. lol. the only species of animal that doesn't do this (or knows not to anyway) is humans.
@Neosilver17 actually males of any animal species will kill a baby from a DIFFERENT male in order to breed with the female to continue it's genetics. rarely will a male kill something that he made. the only reason i would find that he would kill him own offspring is when it's going to die due to a sickness or an injury and that's only in the wild.
Actually male cats do not kill their own kittens. They kill only kittens that are UNRELATED to them in order to make the female fertile and propagate their genes down the line. My bestfriend owns a whole pride of cats and it's from that family that I learnt that relatives like uncles and grandparents will also tolerate kittens as long as they are related to them. While male cats have less role in raising the kittens, they still enjoy their company.
@Neosilver17 You're thinking of Lions. When a new male Lion takes over a pride he kills the babies cause they're not his. I don't believe demesticated house cats do that.
@Neosilver17 That is something you would do...No father cat i've seen does that. In many cases..if left alone, (without humans) a father cat can end up being fatherly. Male Geese are protective of their wife and children. Its an instinct that kicks in. Kittens do not effect mating. A mother cat would kill the male if that were the case.
@Neosilver17 It makes no sense for him to kill his own offspring. The point is to spread his genes, not kill them lol. They do that when the kittens are not theirs. If that female mated with another male and had the other male's kittens then, yes, he would have killed them to get her back into heat. But if they are his - the owner and the mother have nothing to worry about. Male cats are quite protective of their kittens as well. ;)
That's the least the bastard can do, free food and water, free house, no need to work, constant day care.. if only we humans had that luxury .. but we "have to" work.. it's character building :)
I don't. Unless the mother cat is Virgin Mary. This daddy, is the only fertile boy in this house, and all my cats are indoors cats.
If you look a little closer, you will see that the babies are all smokes. The mother is not. That means that the father will have to be a smoke to produce smoke kittens. The father is a blue-smoke Persian boy. And I seriuosly doubt this mother is Virgin Mary!
@feliciafan if u look at mama she has all those colors in her fur.. She has orange, black,grey.. Shes mulitcolored so the babies will come out with each color is it rare though that u don't have a kitten that looks like dad... They are the trouble makers ;)

The chromosones must match in order for animals to breed. This is why we don't have any cat-dogs, wolf-lynxes, or rabbit-squirrels.

I've only heard of that happening with lions, and only if the babies are unrelated to him.
Why would a cat kill his offspring to mate? That defeats the whole purpose of mating.
