he got skills. iron sight...shit hes good.. had to do wind calculations & bullet drop. probably took into consideration the atmosphere where hes at,elevation also. lots of variables!
He took 35 or so shots that day. The first 30 or so the crew filmed him loading, shooting, watchig the hit getting all the angles. Then they put the camera man at the 500 meter bunker to film the next 3 shots hitting the target. The first shot hit outside the black at 2 o'clock. The next two hit the black. Dave said " I am glad they didn't ask me to do it again, I was not sure if I could." He did hit the buffalo the very first shot of the day, just not the black.
I was just sitting down with Dave today telling him how old he looks now compared to this video. Here is the real story. This was shot in 1999 for Ripley's believe it or not.
Range was 1123 yards. And others have done it.
He is using the . 45/100 Original Sharps Borchard Rifle.
hmm ... Why the Sound from the shot comes 1'st than the bullet impact. I was thinking that the bullet is faster than the sound or that is only for the Sniper rifles ... However ... NICE SHOT !
The shot is being recorded from both the point of fire and point of aim. It's been split-screened and the time between the shot and the impact have been sped up. It can depend on the terrain whether or not the sound even reaches those kinds of ranges, but I really doubt you'd even hear a rifle like this going off at 1000 yards.
Supersonic bullets travel faster, subsonics don't and you'll hear a subsonic bullet's sound before it hits.
I don't think it's a .45/70. The video's a bit grainy but I'd venture to say it's a 45/90. Seems too long to be a .45/70 and it's definitely a paper patched ball, but I don't think it's quite a .45/120 length either less he's got big hands.
7x57mmMauser, lighten up.These old Black Powder Breach Loaders are great to shoot and accurate too.In the right hands they can be as precise as modern rifles.Try some of your Head Massage.
I you look closely the smudge at two o clock six inches from the Black dances about throughout the sequence and is therefore on the Camera lens.Whats with the conspiracy attack., could it be envy.
@col4570 dont be stupid. they changed the sequence around and showed them in mixed order to confuse. the smudge is lead splatter on steel and you can see it splatter. 2 splatters a half sec apart. it only requires concentration and removing ones head from ones ass.
This is fake and thats why its in low quality. We exposed this in HD when we could see multiple hits at the same time because 3 people were all shooting at the same time.
@AegisNova If you look closely enough @ 00:49 you will see a hit on the buff's spine area just before the bulls eye hit on the black gong. So this is fake and someone at closer range shoots at the same target to make the hits.
@AegisNova Also if you look @ 00:56 you can see the lead smudge at 2 o'clock on the white part of the buff 6" from the bullseye. This smudge happened about a quarter second before the hit on the black @ 00:49 and if you look closely you can see it. We exposed this fake when it was in HD so they now only show this bs in 240p to try to hide the multiple hits that expose this as a lie.
@1overthehillsfaraway No they didnt say it, my guess would be 900-1200 yards just judging on the sound but then again I do not know how much was edited out (if any). Im sure you could find it on the net somewhere if you looked. Quite impressive though :)
BBroering, It is an original Sharps Borchard Rifle, circa 1880 The calibre I believe is 45.90.It is the successor to the old Reliable Sharps and is Hammerless..
it is either a 45-70 or a 45-90 its an old military gun probably aroun the 1860 maybe a little earlier. but then it could be a reproduction Cant really tell without holding it. Hell of a shot. I would gurantee most people on this forum couldnt do it with a modern .300 win mag and 4-12x40 scope.
@elliotberg not the model. but everything else about it. check the post above yours. Looks like a 45-90 after looking at it a little more. loaded with black powder. designed for the military. good round even to this day,
@BBroering hey thanks, I was doing a little research and i think you are right about the ammunition type. Its either a 45-90 or a 45-100 sharps. The shooter is Dave Gullo the owner of Buffalo Arms Co. As for what rifle he is using I still haven't found that out (to my disappointment). Does anyone know the distance at which this shot was taken at? I'm seeing mixed reports of 1100 meters to 1500 meters. But I don't know if they are true

@azis1100 wow, you're BOTH idiots. and you're an ass. are you seriously arguing over youtube over something that in all likelihood neither of you could do? and you insult the kid because you SAY you know more about guns? prove it. everybody knows what an objective lens is. what is the "crack-thump" method? or sectional density? or the difference between energy and momentum of bullets? taylor K.O. scale? ballistic coefficient? the R.I.I.?

I must admit that is pretty impresive with only iron sights and with that gun but thats not the longest shot tho, craig harison set the world record with 2470m with a l115a3 rifle.
Very good shot with a vintage weapon. But I would not say it was the longest rifle shot ever made. During the American Civil War Union troops were outfitted with British built longrange Bench rifles. These were blackpowder muzzleloadersdesigned for extreme longrange shooting and weighed as much as forty pounds. There are documented incidents where enemy officers were killed at 1800 yards.
Impressive shot. I have shot that same buffalo, got the T-shirt. But I didn't do it with a gun that old or with Black Powder. Hats off. Good shootin' Tex!
I have read that the specialty sniper rifles of the Civil War were accurate out to 1000 yards....Wentworth, and under-hammer, false-muzzle rifles....This is a very long way with BP & iron sights....that bullet must have a trajectory like a rainbow....good shooting...
You cannot compare modern weapons when talking about this subject matter. This sharps Borchard Rifle dates from the late 1800s.The Bullets are propelled by Black Powder. To quote that modern Hunters and snipers shoot at this distance is true but they are not using 130 year old Rifles, loaded with Lead Bullets driven by Black Powder.

First off it does not say how far the shot is BUT right now the WORLD record group is just over 3 inches at 1,000 yards with a very high tech gun. So I really doubt this is over a 1,000 yards
On top of that I said this is not the longest shot ever as the title suggest. It doesn't say "longest shot with iron sights" it says "longest long rifle shot ever" and I said to change the title as it is not the longest shot.
@miamivice966 i never said with iron sights. neither did the poster of the video. and it's not the longest shot with iron sights either. 19th century bench-rest shooters shot to 1400 yards. there was even a report during the fighting with the Indians that one guy hit an Indian at 1900 yards. it may or may not be true, though. i'm not saying this wasn't a good shot. it was a fantastic shot. just not the longest ever.
@gulerod Yes it can, spend as much time as you can re-teaching yourself to shoot without a scope. train for years, even decades in some cases. After 18 years of shooting I have managed to hit a 9 inch target at 1000 yards with an old iron sight .45-120 Sharps rifle, Its all about practice, and a little motivation, without hitting a shot like that I dont eat. I hunt my food, no kill means a hungry night. I got good quick.
As with the Sight on Daves Sharps Borchard the Aperture acts as a Lense and clarifies the sight picture. As an experiment try pinholing a piece of Card and reading through the hole. You will see that the letters are extremely clear. This principle allows you to see through the front sight out to the target. Those who experience dificulties with open sights will find the aperture sight advantagious.
Dave will have weighed all powder charges and weighed each bullet. Black Powder shooting is all about consistency. These details are the mark of a Champion. Small Items like lubricant can make all the diference. A windless day is ideal for this demonstration. Even atmospheric conditions can have a marked effect on accuracy.Dave has to combine all these factors along with the high trajectory and slow bullet for these remarkable distance shots.
@poestal dude i dont play video games and plus the barret DID make the longest shot ever and it was confirmed by the government. Look it up for all i care man i was literally born with a gun in my hand i had a 410 since i was 3 and i grew up knowing about them i have had national guard and special ops people tell me i know a shit load of guns and a little more than they do so get off ur xbox and actually go outside for awhile u'll be suprised on how much you could learn.
This is NOT the longest rifle shot in history.....the longest shot in history was set by the M107 Barret .50 cal at a mile and a half and it still holds the record. Nice try kid.
@XDStringmanXD Wrong. The 2 longest confirmed kills were with an Accuracy International .338 Lapua, the 3rd was with a McMillan .50. The Barrett has never been used over distances that great, only bolt guns.
@nblax41 Our scouts used .308 and .50 to their advantage on long distance shots all the time. I had the fun job of carrying that pig quite a few times while on mission with them. Usually the .50 was reserved for vehicular shots as the round is phenomenal at retaining killing power after piercing car doors and such. Of course the M40 got used all the time, and was a favorite for Afghanistan because of the reduced weight but the garret never collected dust. Maybe not the longest, but not far off.
@XDStringmanXD- ur completely wrong, as nblax41 said the furthest kill shot in combat was craig harrison in nov, 2008, with the dist. of 2,707yd or 2,475 m killing two taliban machine gunners with a .338 Lapua Magnum L115A3...plus this is open sight
How does he calculate windage and elevation , shooting that far with an iron sight . I am totally amazed by this man's skill . Even with my night force scope , I still can't hit a target that far .
My friend Dave Gullo shooting at Raton, New Mexico at the Whittington Center with a Borchardt .45/100 Black Powder Cartridge Rifle! Distance was 1125 yards and that black plate on the buffalo is about 15" diameter! Tell ME....blackpowder isn't accurate!!
i need more details rifle make model and calibre actual range and size of target ive seen shots like this made i dont doubt i just want to know technical details
@yotedeath Dave's first shot DID NOT hit the black plate; rather it's on the buffalo up at the 1 o/clock position about 12" off the plate but.....he put the next 3 rounds in the black!! lol lol This was filmed by Ripley's Believe it or Not when done. Not the longest shot ever made but....the longest shot ever attempted on film with a BPCR!!
who ever this guy is why isnt he in the army he is beyond amazing he could walk through Afganistan and they would just laugh at his old gun then he would blow the shit outa them
@ivedigga Dave Gullo owner of Buffalo Arms. However last year David Tubbs did shot that same Buffalo with a borrowed 45-90 Shiloh Sharps, i was spoting for him.

The Borchardt was manufactured in both .45 and .50 caliber. Not sure of the power charge behind it.

LOL it takes just long enough to hit you for you to notice and say " What the fuck is that?"

Looks like an old Sharps, chambered in anywhere from .45-70 to .45-120. Judging by the travel time (just under 2 sec.), I'd say possibly 1000 yards.

They Don't even Tell you How far away it is

Dave will have weighed all powder charges and weighed each bullet. Black Powder shooting is all about consistency. These details are the mark of a Champion. Small Items like lubricant can make all the diference. A windless day is ideal for this demonstration. Even atmospheric conditions can have a marked effect on accuracy.Dave has to combine all these factors along with the high trajectory and slow bullet for these remarkable distance shots.

WOW! that was amazing!!!

XDStringmanXD 1 year ago
@XDStringmanXD he said a long rifle not a sniper rifle
Titleification 1 year ago
@XDStringmanXD none of that was true, you fail.
missan1 1 year ago
@XDStringmanXD Wrong. The 2 longest confirmed kills were with an Accuracy International .338 Lapua, the 3rd was with a McMillan .50. The Barrett has never been used over distances that great, only bolt guns.
nblax41 1 year ago
@nblax41 Our scouts used .308 and .50 to their advantage on long distance shots all the time. I had the fun job of carrying that pig quite a few times while on mission with them. Usually the .50 was reserved for vehicular shots as the round is phenomenal at retaining killing power after piercing car doors and such. Of course the M40 got used all the time, and was a favorite for Afghanistan because of the reduced weight but the garret never collected dust. Maybe not the longest, but not far off.
gpgab971 1 year ago
@XDStringmanXD- ur completely wrong, as nblax41 said the furthest kill shot in combat was craig harrison in nov, 2008, with the dist. of 2,707yd or 2,475 m killing two taliban machine gunners with a .338 Lapua Magnum L115A3...plus this is open sight
