  • I love your earrings...where did you get them?

  • That is the nature of human beings. Most people are constantly making judgments and assessments based off their mental models. People process things more thoroughly when they have the time and motivation to do so. Some have a need to process things more in depth than others. Quick judgments and assessments based off superficial associations are very normal. If i was in your position and someone said I had an earthy look I would try to understand why they think that.

  • she looks like mya, thats why i opened this video lol

  • dammmmmmmmmmmmmn you are pretty

  • Are you the woman interviewing K'naan?

  • ur madd cool...n funny...especially the part where u said 'granted i push a hybrid'...this vid is soo tru

  • ur sooo pretty, uu remind me so much of myaa.

  • I can definitely relate to the hair schizophrenia

  • Amen girl! Stickin up for the curly headed girls! It's all soo true! I love your hair btw!

  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE UR HAIR

  • I love ur hair :)

  • Amen girl!

  • I meant to say, 'I have seen '

  • I haven't seen a couple of videos of yours with you rockin various of hair styles and I think you look great with any hair-do, except for the braids to the back, it makes you look adolescent.

  • I wish we could go back to the afro you know how easy it would do to do my hair?? lol

  • gosh you look like Mya. lol great vid.

  • Out of all Ur Vids, This is Ur Prettiest Afro. Not 2 B taken away from the others because they R all beautiful, but i'd like 2 know what was done differently, if U can remember, lol. Also how do U go about pressing Ur hair? Any reccomendations?

  • thanks. that was probably a fresh twist out or something. i can get SUPER lazy with my hair. lol. i go to a hair dresser that usually deep conditions before she blows it out and LIGHTLY hot combs it. I dont like my hair completely flat. I will be posting a hair moxie soon cuz i think i stumbled upon some awesomeness!!!

  • getting my hair relaxed was the worst mistake iv ever made. i commend you for being all natural. i wish i could be like you. im not relaxing/perming anymore.

  • I know, I wish i had never relaxed my hair. Cause now ive got to cut all the relaxer off, and i dont really wanna do that.

  • Hey....I saw your comment and just wanted to encourage you. Natural is so awesome!!!! You won't regret it. Look up videos on transitioning if you're not ready to do the big chop. Don't let anyone discourage you :)

  • Hey :) I saw your comment and I just wanted to say I think it's awesome that you decided to go natural!!!!! Don't let anyone discourage you. Watch all the videos you can on natural hair. It will keep you focused on your goal. I've been natural for a little over a year and I love it!!!

  • Great advice. I hate when people compartmentalize others based on looks. We should be allowed to define who we are. You are gorgeous and you hair is fierce! Thanks for sharing.

  • beautiful hair!!!!!!!! ur very pretty!!

  • Can I touch your hair?

    NO.

lmbo!!..i love it! You coulda been nicer..hahah

  • YOU LOOK LIKE MYA!!!!

  • You're hella cute : )

  • wow pretty hair! You must get this all the time, but you look like the singer Mya.

  • thx for addressing the people who want to PET our hair. rude and degrading and patronizing! and being "earthy" is actually a good thing, but being automatically boxed into the category is not. it's the assumption part that is problematic.

  • This is so true ...because I'm transitioning...and it dont mean I'm earthy.

  • LOL! And it doesn't mean you're making some "political movement."

  • Yea..but you know stereotypes...everyone always has something to say about you no matter what you do.

  • i love your hair :)

  • love your hair!!!!

  • ur hair looks so pretty

  • it's so weird to me to talk about "going natural"

Like, I have never had relaxer in my life and I couldn't imagine not having my hair in its natural state...I had no idea so many at least one point in their life, have relxer. I always assumed that they would jsut hot comb it sometimes

Not being natural is like wearing white powder over your black skin...That's how I see it.

Oh yeah, ur hair is FLY

  • *nods head* Thank you for sharing.

  • your hair is great honey. damn what people say or think. im still transitioning (5months and counting) and seeing your hair is an inspiration.

  • Ah-men!

I love your hair. And i love my Hair.

    :]

  • Thank you, girl. I love your hair. You are so right about what you're saying. There are many people who are very critical about natural hair. But, the sad part about it is that most people that compliment me are white.

  • likewise

  • okay u look like mya! but i see you heard that already lol

  • As soon as I went Natural all my white friends wanted to rub my head...its rally creepy, it was cute at first but now its just anoying, i kinda snaped at my music teacher about touching it. She didnt even ask me she just stared rubbing my head, homie dont play that

  • hmm I somewhat agree with this video because I feel it depends on the way in which it was said; that "earthy" could be as saying a the person is organic or unique or pure in comparison to weave and perms. OR the person could be "earthy" as in non civilized in connection to the state of black natural hair. I wouldn't put mind to it. ------------------------------Do you!!!!!

  • yeah u look like mya

  • you look like mya!

  • HA! ive got the can I touch it question. I always say wash your hands first lol!

  • I understand where you are coming from with this video but I feel that ignorant people are just that wether it be about you hair/race/ect. I have done everything to my hair (wigs to weaves, permed, natural, black, blond, red, short, long) and I get compliments & non compliments (lol) on every style. I dont go blond or permed because I want to be white. Nor do I revert back to curly because I am trying to get back in touch with my roots. I think hair should be fun and I change mine with my mood.

  • don't forget "afrocentric". Gotta love being lumped in with Marcus Garvey and Malcolm X simply because of your hairstyle! Look at my afro! I hate the establishment! Down with whitey! O_o

  • You look like the singer Mya you look pretty.

  • Your hair is absolutely gorgeous!!!! Can you please let me know what you did to get this look, so I can try it??? Thanks

  • I thinks yo hur be fly shawty! Fa realz douh.

  • OMG I soooooo know what U mean because I have Locs and I experience stuff like this all the time. Also since I'm a musician it's Like "Oh U wanna B like Lauryn Hill, or Bob Marley" and they just know my favorite music is reggae. I mean, of course I love Lauryn and Brother Bob but, don't limit me 2 only artists who wear dreadlocks or me being a hippie!!!

  • Love the hair!

  • I am so happy to see the natural sisters having this type of pride.

  • lol. your hair is nice. i'm a open person depending on who it is so i actually tell some people to go ahead and touch my hair. i even share advice with them on the street because they are just curious. i get where your coming from though.

  • Your hair is so beautiful!

  • I know exactly how you feel. You're hair is beautiful, though =)

  • I understand....people tend to call me X. and I get so offended...and feel like I have to go out of my way to not dress militant.

  • You're pretty. I want your hair :DDDD

  • Your beautiful!!!!!

  • these fab sistah friends at frolabDOTcom tracked me down at Rock The Bells this weekend and i was more than happy to take a pic (no pun intended!) go to the frospotting section!!

  • rock the bells was an amazing show....and im glad you made a video explaining it's just hair because im so tired of people thinking im like on some black panther tip...or think all i do is light incense and i only wear stuff made out of hemp lol

  • jus because u dont get perms dosent mean ur earthy not thats theres anything bad about being earth it jus means ur EXCEPTING YOUR HAIR..so i agree with you.

  • i have a shirt that says "no, you can't touch my hair." i love it!

  • omg, where did you get your "no, you can't touch my hair" shirt?

  • where did you see that shirt? I would like one. =)

  • ur pretty and i luv your hair

  • I never understood why people are surprised and in awe when black people allow their real hair to grow out of their head. LOL

  • you are amazingly beautiful!

  • aint nothin wrong with bein earthy, u aint dirty. you look incredible

  • amen about ppll trying to touch your hair as if natural hair is this foreign entity, a mess. Natural "black" hair shouldn't be something mysterious, it should be something, well, natural...

  • You are gorgeous...and keep your ideas!!! You're unique...

  • thatz why i believe in Anarchy!

  • i dont understand this women she talking like natural hair is a bad thing telling us she ownes a wig like thats a good thing.

  • hell yeah! good for you

  • or you can shave it all. i like being bold with my big creole hearings, africana style!

  • i can relate to you BIGTIME!

  • Geeez your hair is gorgeous!

  • She's Black.Look at that hair. That is why she is talking about this and talking about Black women loving themselves.

  • she actually looks mixed. and this is coming from someone who considers herself black. but that doesn't matter. what i think doesn't matter. what she defines herself as is what matters.

  • She looks way better than Mya...for One Mya got the white man nose. An Mya Hair don't look as fiya as hers. Wow. Do what you do Moxie. You fine and Real looking. So few women willing to throw off the cave mans brainwashing. Power to the people.

    Shalowm Yisrael

  • girl you hit the nail on the head with that....why do they always want to touch it like damn have you never seen a black woman with a fro gees

  • love ur hair! so cute.

  • thanx for puttin this video out. a while ago, i was standing next to a bunch of my friends (who are black) and out of no where they start bashing these twins because they've never relaxed there hair and i was too shocked...

anywho, great vid, well spoken, and i love your versatility in hair styles =)

  • *there=their

  • Your gorgeous!!! I love your hair......

  • i don't like it when mixed race people straighten their hair fully. I like the way its frizzy/curly. I'm a mixed race guy but my hair doesn't grow like that, i wish it did :).

  • hey guys! i'll be posting a NEW video about what i do/use for my hair. lots of people have hit me up asking, so keep an eye out. I'll be posting it later today!

  • love it! tell em girl! let's kill the ignorance... seriously.

  • wat r u crazy,ur hair is beautiful and so r u lol

  • I hate when people try and pet me like a dog

Like I'm some pet or new speciese. It it so anoying. Or when they say oh it's so amaizing how you did your hair. Or oh my god you did your hair yourself. Like me black girl should only perm my hair and deny it is kinky underneath and not know how to do my hair.I am black and before the perm I did it. I don't ask white people ooh my god how did you get your hair in that bum it's it's amazing.

  • u r beautiful in your natural state sis stay ture 2 ya self

  • If I could get my hair like that..I'd love it

  • We love your hair as it is right now, beautiful!

  • i LOVE YOUR HAiR.iTS LiKE MY HAiR.

  • i'm going natural, and i really don't want to be called earthy it's so much bs. some people hated me natural hair years ago but i said mn-eff you i am being who god made me. i love my hair in it's natural curl so love the video.

  • that's so tru, but it seems like more people are going natural. so hopefully when it becomes more common, ppl will slowly stop associated natural hair with the whole earthy/vegan/neo soul listenin activist idea... and by the way, you really do look alot like mya, really pretty!!

  • I'd rather get earthy thank hoodrat, chickenhood, scallywag LMBO

  • For real, people always want to put someone in a box...it's just hair, it only grows out differently...it's all good...nice video

  • Thank you for saying that. I also got those comments when I decided to go natural (though I eventually reverted back to a perm). I also got the lesbian comments, too. It was really annoying. Anyway, thanks for speaking up about that. Your hair is absolutely gorgeous, btw.

  • Beautiful hair. Thank you so much for speaking your mind, too. Very empowering.

  • you look alot like Mya

  • lol i was thinking the same thing! I was like "does mya have Youtube?"

    I loveee your hair!

  • Earthy? Never heard of. CHicken-Head I've heard of.

  • You're beautiful and so is your hair! ^_^

  • Exoticism has this implication that it deviates from the norm, ya know, very very different and intriguing. What I'm saying is that it appears to me that "girl next door" or "classic beauty" standard, ideal beauty are labels that are applied to White models or are reserved for them only.

  • It's like on the surface, it appears as a compliment, but underneath, there seems to be this implication that Black models or other non-White models don't or cannot be or cannot represent "standard" or "classic" beauty.

  • Hey,

Love your hair and I totally understand what you mean when people say things like "earthy" or "high fashion." You're right, it does have this "twist." I like to say that there is a conotation behind it that may have no negative intent, but at the root, there is some kind of preconceived, ignorant notion.

To me, it's like when designers, or others in the modeling industry call Black models, or any other non-White models "exotic."

  • pretty face, funky hair. but its cute! nice video!

  • well what do u put in your hair to hold the curls and it not frizz up? its beautiful

  • Shout out to all the ladies who are not afraid to do whatever with their hair. Natural, perms, weaves, braids, short, long, blonde, black....whatever. We as men appreciate the time you spend on making yourselves look good but at the end of the night we want to mess your hair up anyway.

  • LMBO

  • I've never heard the term "earthy" in regards to her hair before. I actually like the natural look, wether its her hair, no make up or whatever I think its beautiful. Plus a sista hair is the most diverse hair texture on the planet. You can pretty much do anything in any fashion you can think of and it will still be beautiful. I'm actually sick of seeing the perm and straight hair shit. Natural is beautiful.
