Ron Paul should have been President. He is the only guy that was honest enough to tell us this was coming. It's another attempt to avoid telling Americans the truth about another important topic (I'm American living in Canada). The GOP has lost its way. It likes to claim fiscal conservatism and smaller government but Ron Paul is the only Rep candidate from last year that voted that way. The Dems did try to include amendments in the bill to make sure AIG couldn't hand out bonuses but this would have created lawsuits which they most likely would have lost (they're contracts afterall)

Well, he is a strict constitutionalist and a libertarian. He believes in some of the old school Republican values that are no longer fought for (smaller government, civil liberties to name a couple). However, I don't think a lot of his ideas would benefit our current system (he wants to abolish virtually every federal program and I don't think there is enough State support for that - it could create chaos). At any rate, his voting record is better than most and he actually does what he says.

I think he has some good ideas and a better grasp of the economy than any of the big wigs in the GOP or democratic party but I don't think his policies would work now as they're a little fringe. I think he's a valuable voice for the GOP and should not be ignored by the party like he has.

Also, if you look at the handouts and contracts given during the Bush administration you will realize just how "socialist" they were (according to current conservative wisdom). It's all crap. I would love to vote Rep. again but they aren't even offering suggestions to fix this mess. Did you see the GOP budget proposal today? It was a joke. No numbers, no actual estimates. They have done nothing. They will release it on April Fool's day (seriously). I speak in frustration as a conservative.

Ok, you mentioned the hundreds of millions involved in the AIG bonus scandal and you even mention Congress and it's spending of billions but I think the ad fails in showing the true scope of the disaster heading our way. While our govt was distracting everyone with its faux rage over the AIG bonuses it went and spent another TRILLION it doesn't have on "buying" back debt through T-bills. A trillion here, a trillion there plus a few more trillion for this and that. This is bigger than AIG.
