Lotus Scura @ 2009 Tokyo Auto Show

I'm an American, true-blue through and through, who loves the British sports car. This thing is perfectly sized for me (5' 7") and, yes, I'll throw my hat in the British ring over the American sports car ring. I've owned a fourth-Gen Z28 and I've driven plenty of V6 and V8 Mustangs. I'd pick a British sports car over a pony any day. They handle better, particularly in less-than-ideal weather, and imho they look better, too ('cept maybe for that new ZL1 Camaro; that it is a real looker!)

I have Elise... also drive or super cars... it is a very basic car... nothing extra... with 4.7 0-60 base ..going down low 3.0s with induction... however straight is not the goal for this car... the feeling of the road and moving is a lot fun... Never tracked a car yet... just road experiences... I've also driven GT40 and others... Lotus is amazing... 8)

I just walked out of my shitty wharehouse job 3 hours ago and this car was sitting sideways in our parking lot, with a cop car in front of it his lights still flashing. Every one leaving was like wow that car is awsome. The cop was talking to the driver. Turns out the kid was going 160 mph and the cop chased him down, and found him in our parking lot. He was a soldier and because of that the cop let him go.

Well.. americans never compete on buildquality, handling or styling. Which leaves them with bragging about top speeds and hp. Those enormous 5-6 litre engines arent there because it makes the car great. Its the centrepiece to get all patriotic over. i guess it's not that fast. but i you want a fast lotus. check out the one remade by hennesey. its called the venom gt. it uses the same 7.1 litre 1000 bhp engine that the corvette uses. also has a bit witer suspension and automatic rear wing air brakes. its a masterpiece if you ask me, but i havent seen it run yet, but you could check it out at topgear.com if you want though

remember too that it's a 4 cylinder, not a V8, so the top speed might not be that impressive to you, but for a 4 cylinder it really is.

Funny how ppl comment on this car as being slow just cause it has only 256HP. That's like saying a sportbike is slow cause it only has 4 cylinders. Remember folks, Exige is light as hell: Does 0 to 60 in 3.9 secs. Acceleration is faster than many supercars. Only it's top end is "slow"... if you consider 155 MPH as slow...

well, 155 is slow for a car like that. my 1999 saturn can do around 140 (used the RPMs to approximate, since the speedometer only goes up to 130). and that car doesnt even register as far as sports cars go.

Most (When I say most I really mean ALL except for the AMG Black Series) Mercedes AMG's top out at 155 MPH (governor limited of course). It's not that slow. Plus, Lotus never claims that this car is a supercar. It is a flashy track car made for track racing. I've raced an Elise (the slower non supercharged version of this car) with a 350Z b4 and it got eaten by it. Top speed the Z would win however but not by much. Go test drive one. I have and I was pretty impressed.

well, theres that. i mean, it looks like a beast. but theres also the fact that it has over 200HP, and from what ive heard its pretty damn small, so small coefficient of drag. i guess it gets a lot of downforce, which would create lots of drag at high speeds tho, so that probly explains it.

Two more cylinders add weight and since the engine would be bigger you'd need a bigger meaning the handling would suffer. Small lightweight cars eat big heavy powerful ones on twisty roads and tracks.

You forgot about 30mph. An NA Elise can easily pull of 150mph. No reason the Exige can't.

Matte black is sexy. I'd say they should've named it Stealth for the U.S. but then it would sound like a Dodge. I'm pretty sure there is a Dodge Stealth (or was).

I wish they didn't change the rear wing. I like all the other exterior enhancements but ugh... a spoiler.

you have to oil the paint with something like ArmorAll or silicone. Even then it will fade in the sun very quickly. This is for someone that can afford to have it repainted and cleaned for them often. You dont own your possessions, they own you!
