  • so nice song so sad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • If only the lyrics and the translation had a size enough to be read...

  • Me too...I cry each time I hear this song.

  • @HimelickMarilyn Yes, it is a very sad song of remembrance.

  • Amein. Yi'hei shi'mei rabu ...

  • @HimelickMarilyn

    What does it mean?

  • @meusisto well, it goes something along these lines (err, close enough) my sister khaye, her eyes were green my sister khaye, her braids were black my sister khaye was the one who raised me at home at Smoche street with the unstable staircase mother left the house at dawn when the sky only started to change colours to the shop she went, to earn some dimes, little money and khaye stayed at home with the children fed and guarded then and at evening, when little children begin to be tired
  • @meusisto

she'd sing lovely songs for them.

my sister khaye with her green eyes

my sister khaye with her long hair

my sister khaye who raised me

was not ten years old yet

she'd clean, cook, serve the food

    wash our little heads

    she forgot only to play

my sister khaye with her black braids

  • @meusisto my sister khaye, her eyes were green a german burnt her in Treblinka and i am now in the jewish state the last person to know her. for her i write my song in yiddish the only language she knew about those horrid times of our days she sits next to god now as a singe daughter
  • @Merleawe31

Thank you very much! I'm also putting efforts on reading in Yiddish. It's barely, at least, possible.

  • @Merleawe31 I converted to Judaism and I toured Dachau twice while living stationed in Germany in the U.S. Army. I can't bring myself anymore to visit these places. The place literally reeked of all the blood in the ground like a slaughterhouse. One holocaust remembrance day here in Jerusalem I was in tears. I will have to get up the courage to bring my kids to Yad Hashem someday when they are old enough to understand. Until then, I'm an emotional basket case when I think of the Shoah.

  • This song tears me up. Thank you.
