The movement against free trade is nothing more than xenophobia and racism. The anti-globalist left hates Westerners. The anti-globalist right hates Third World people. Neither the anti-globalist left nor the anti-globalist right is democratic, preferring that power-hungry, often-corrupt politicians decide for the people, rather than to allow the people themselves to decide what they want to buy, who they want to work for and where they want to invest.
How so? Trade volume is increasing, more and more multi and transnationals are breaking into new markets, and miles of ibre optic cable are being laid across the world as we speak. Unless governments screw things up (as they did in the 20th century), globalization is here to stay, and we will all benefit.
we will all benefit? actually, globalization causes more competition for resources. you want to know why the American dream is dead? just think about it. is today's generation that works two jobs better off than the prior that could easily retire at the age of 65 with a petition plan with just a high school education? in truth, globalization is only good for corporate profits, as corporations have access to cheaper labor markets. it's more beneficial for the haves than have nots.
exactly right.down the road after nwo and such, the pope will become one of the world leaders and we will either love him or hate him.there will also b a deceptively peaceful time in the world.
i suggest not going to church, but searching God in ur heart for urself at home, the churches reputation should not b what it is.
Is it really necessary for a culture to change in the face of Globalization? Culture is accumulation of all the lessons of the past in the journey to a better life. So if McDonalds opens up in the Australian outback, surely they would serve wichety(?) grubs with Kangaroo burgers. What is exported is the system and how to run it in the local context.
While I am still using youtube, I still think it is too bad. Globalization should not be here. People should stay different, in the pursuit of globalization we inherit environmental and social catastrophy. This planet can not handle it. Sooner, or later it will slap us in the face. And there we have 2 choices: 1. Destroy ourselves (Nuclear weapon) 2. Expand on the other planets.
Globalization is just the natural progression of our race and human history. If we choose not to take part in it by handicapping our corporations from competing abroad, corporations will just move to countries more friendly to their business core. We're Americans, we're the greatest country on Earth, we're just going to have to compete harder for jobs and opportunities in a flat world.
There are not enough hair dressers in the white house for this man to be President. Put a mirror in the deep end of a swimming pool and Edwards will drown himself. Oh what a beautiful girl! oh what a Breck girl. Hitlery is more of a MAN!!!
This is a pretty funny video, with pseudo-populist Edwards urging Americans to accept their global fate, just as long as the president makes it a little more comfortable.
Meanwhile, see 2004's "Bilderberg 'performance' key to Edwards VP pick":
why can't we just say no to globalism? we don't want to be like the police state in EU. anyone who talks about globalism should never get an americans vote
Shiek, you are right to say that we should say "no" to globalization. Opponents to globalization are not for isolationism or against trade, but we are for fair trade in re-building our physical production capacity. To say "globalization is not going away," is to resign oneself to a lower standard of living.
to say you are against free trade is to say you are against all trade. if you restrict trade somewhat, you obviously don't like what its doing. and how could we have a lower standard of living if we are importing cheap and quality products from all over the world? trade isn't about countries, it's about individuals.
the problem is the US government advocates free trade for the world, but doesn´t practice it! They say to other countries "lower your tariffs to american products - let us come in cost-free", but when it comes to the USA lowering its tariffs, it doesn´t!
that´s what pisses people off in the third world! USA uses different measurements and different scales. It wants people to follow its economic policies, but the USA has never followed them itself!
John Edwards is the best candidate for president, because he would give the most opportunities for the working people of America to advance to a better life.
P.S.: I wore my Edwards button when I met Sen. Boxer today.
Who Knows but him. The day after 9-11, he's on the intelgence commitee, of course he's not going to say what itellegence is finding. Perhaps someone could ask him now almost 6 years later, I'm sure he'd answer.
So, are you going to fight to give Americans the benefit of free education and health care that more advance nations provide? Many Americans can't afford college and don't want to live in debt. Poor people pay taxes and the rich benefit. So give back with free education and healthcare. Tax the rich and corporations.
John Edwards speaks clearly about the issues that really matter. We all need to given the opportunity to succeed and right now that opportunity is very limited. We need the change Edwards represents.
Hey John, your wife is dead, you are now free to screw any whore you want, are you happy with yourself? what a freaking looooooser.

however, i don't agree that we're the greatest country on earth and i do believe we need to resist some aspects of globalization

Matt Simmons, the former energy adviser under President HW Bush, called for an end to globalization and the empowerment of workers.
He says that we're facing the end of oil and that peak oil is already happening.
Not to mention how globalization means legalized slavery and the brutalization of humans for crap products like Nike and Wal-Mart kids toys.
No thanks, I rather support American organic farmers and shop owners than the Chinese factory that puts antifreeze in my toothpaste!
