  • Euhhgh, you can see all the muscles and tendons in his hands and arms flop all around as he taps. Brootal

  • I wonder... is that bass a Conklin GT-7? Always wanted one......

  • How much money do you have invested in all your basses?

  • your bass sounds pure evil, sounds like it would devour a child and spit it out again (that's a compliment)

  • do you play random?

  • My fingers are all tingly now...

  • The one real big trouble with technical deathmetal is that it sounds horrible live.

You really need the studio quality with a good set of cans to hear it properly, else it just sounds like noise.

Props on the basswork though :)

  • very hard to play, i love ultra brutal death metal, sounds pretty cacophonic to me, i think il go listen to some prog :/

  • What is the singer doing ??

  • y disfruta lo que toca?

  • i can play smoke on the water......

  • Yeah I'm just gonna go sell my instrument now.

  • Brain Drill is technically seen fucking amazing, but musically pure shit.

  • This is awesome! Good job! Awesome hair, too! \m/

  • QUE MIERDA MAS GRANDE DEL UNIVERSO UNIVERSAL !!

  • in the video this is a response to guy playing if you look closley you can see what he does

  • the acapella stuff was awesome

  • @GladiusSoul + How the heck can you remember crazy stuff like this?

  • How the heck did you do this BY EAR?

    Great cover though :D

  • LOL, READ THE TITLE. HAHAHA

  • If you learn all these by ear, do any of them take at least a year to learn?

  • He's obviously very talented but I can't get into these tech-death metal bands because, as mentioned previously, it's mostly technique rather than musical (but the definition of what is 'musical' or not is always open to debate). Amazing to watch but I couldn't sit and listen to it for a whole album. There isn't a recognizable tune or riff to follow. But then this style is the next stage in the evolution of extreme metal. Where else was there to go but become more technical?

  • I'd like to know how many of these naysayers own or have even attempted to play a 7-string bass. I've been playing guitar for 29 years and playing 6-string fretless bass for about 2 months and it's a bitch just carrying that lumber! It is nowhere near as easy to play that clean and fast as he makes it look, I assure you. You don't have to get defensive and insecure just because someone else blows your mind. Seeing him do so in these vids should give one hope as opposed to invoking jealousy.

  • ok, tonight when your mom/teacher calls you up stairs for dinner, you tell her that you need more time in arts and crafts. make her a big gold star and award it at the next assembly (home school picnic). pin it directly to her vagina. because she must have injected SOOOO much metal up in there to end up giving birth to you. your biological father was that liquid metal terminator from the future. if you aren't earning a living playing bass, go rob a bank - you earned it.

  • wow that was alot of stuff happening at once;D aweeesome§§!!

  • While everyone bitches, this is pretty swell. It's cool if no one digs your style, as long as you like it thats all that matters. \m/ cheers and beers.

  • I'm sorry. I'm trying to find something even remotely related to bass guitar in this video but I can't. There's no lows, no tone, nothing of what defines a good bass player. He has got technique, sure as hell. But that's not enough.

  • This is good stuff

  • YOU FUCKING NAILED IT!!!! HORNS UP!!!

  • God Damn son, I've watched some of your other covers on here also. You got some made talent bro. Are you in a band or anything?

  • I wish I could play like you man. I'm jealous of your skills.

  • this band seems obsessed with tapping out diminished runs, impressive though, good job

  • i think he can play guitar better than i am.....

  • @neenerteener Yeah, but speed means nothing without emotion. This music portrays music as a sport.

  • You are my idol

  • squid fingers

  • Awful.

  • I dont like brain drill but I must admit they are hella technical.

  • I LOVE the riff between 0:33 and 0:36 iwish I could play it, sounds so smart

  • i dont know... I mean it is complicated by the way of playing the rythm the sweeping part and everything. But i think that it`s just a little bit over the top. (I´m just talking bout the music. very good playing by the way^^)

  • what the fuck is that.

  • @AscendancyXx a conklin

  • try that on a 4 string, without tapping, sean beasely ftw, hate this 7 string shit, might as well grab a guitar,

  • @TrashMetal25 might as well shut the hell up.

  • @tannerhuotari might as well eat a dick, oh sorry im not gay, you on the other hand...

  • @TrashMetal25

This has to be the most pathetic insult on youtube. There's a lot of competition for that here, so have a medal.

  • @Madbutcher305 i will take silver, sorry, i cant hear you from the top spot, say that again? :)

  • @TrashMetal25 You realize that musically speaking you are impossibly wrong, theory wise and just note wise, right? Like, how number of strings doesn't determine what kind of guitar it is? And how it's impossible, theoretically to hit about two sevenths of the notes he's hitting and have several of the tapping parts to be impossible to one hand simply because a hand does not have a fingers that jet out on either side of the hand, right? Because if not, you're god damn stupid.

  • @TrashMetal25 If your gonna compare an instrument on how many strings it has...Then might as well try playing this without tapping on a Banjo? That also has 4-strings? And dude, Sean Beasley has a completely different play style...He also uses a plectrum. :-/

  • @KongoXIIV im comparing a bass to a bass... do you think he could do this on a 4 string bass? no, not cuz its hard, but cuz he sucks in that sense. someone like sean beasely (who also taps, yes but nowhere near as frequently) for example, could play this on a 4 string, without tapping, meaning hes synching two hands together, doing what the brain drill guy is doing with two hands, with only one, while picking, good bassists could also do it with fingers, its a bass, not a harp or a guitar,

  • @TrashMetal25 Now your being ignorant, as well as knowing not much about range.

HOW can this be tapped on a 4-string? It doesn't have the same note range?

How are you going to tap out the high notes on a high-F string on an instrument limited to G being the highest at best? Or even lower, on the B-string?

Display how Beasley (PLEASE start spelling his name right) would do this, and THEN I listen.

You have a challenge, make him proud.

  • @KongoXIIV he wouldent tap it, hed sweep it :D LIKE A GOOD BASSIST. WOHOOO. use your monkey ears, and listen closely, what is the bassist here playing, ah, i hear, a sweep, with some tapping, and i do know range quite well thank you :) and here is where i argue again, a proper bass player would play that not on a high F, but a lower F, see :D DOES IT MAKE SENSE? yes indeed, this just again, proves, when you play that much higher, might as well grab a guitar. (Y)

  • @TrashMetal25 Ok first of all, Hughell is tapping 7-strings and using 2-3 notes on each...Beasley's sweep would be...lacking...IN fact he'd have to 1st sweep THEN tap 5 other notes on one string to compete.

2nd for one comparing guitar, sweeping is more of a guitarists technique than the two handed piano style of bass.

3rd, even though he's that high, he's still an octave below and 4th going down to a lower F and beyond would require a mammoth amount of wattage and be hugely inaudible.

  • @TrashMetal25 Not possible on 4 string. It'd sound diffirently and "limited". These "5 string above bases" are made for solo purposes - so you could possibly reachy very hight notes and could do some more sweep stuff, dual hand tapping stuff and playing higher chords.

Many great players don't go beyond 5 string or 4 string, but that's just because they have diffirent style and don't need extra strings. Personally, I don't need even 6 string, 5 string is fine :-)

  • @FleshStarvingBass bassists like giorgio terenziani and sean beasley would atleast get close to this, or not triumph it in terms of musical skill, i hear what your saying, and it makes sense, but it really gets to be a piss off them you see them doing hand tapping and all this, even more so when i see bassists like the one from brain drill for example, who will play exactly what the guitar is playing at the exact same tone and same note, no octave difference, whats the point, it kills purpose

  • @TrashMetal25 Well, I think they would play diffirent bass line, not to support guitar line. There is not much of sense in playing the same lines in same octaves, but thats how it goes... they could only hardly apply that dual hand tapping on a diffirent bassline to avoid "chaos".

Lets make a straight point, this ain't much of music, just show of technical skills. Some people just like it and its not me.

  • @FleshStarvingBass true, but it all depends, in my books, atleast, brain drill does not count as a "true metal" band. its all fast playing on high frets that sounds impressive, but really the talent it takes to learn and play it is minimal, i adore elaborate ska bass lines, and more so some of the jazz, but there really are impressive bassists out there, but not in death/metalcore, if by "this" you mean metal, then id like to prove you wrong, real metal actually has very impressive basslines

  • @TrashMetal25 For me, true metal is Mudvayne wich I'm really into. These are the best basslines I ever saw in metal/rock genre - it has huge jazz/funk feeling. Ryan Martinie is my n1 bassist and I have the same bass :o) and I'm sure if he played in tech death metal band, he would do everything completely diffrent. It might be far better, but it wouldn't that WOW EFFECT when you see some insane guy dual tap the guitar line, when I first saw it I was impressed aswell... and still learning tapping

  • @FleshStarvingBass isnt it great when you have mature conversations. you should check out quo vadis, theyre a melodic technical death metal band with a fairly famous bassist, steve digirgio, he plays amazing stuff on bass, youll love the bass lines. comepletely agreed once again, and thats were our difference is. you saw something that impressed you, i see another guitarist who is completely useless and inaudible, and lacking talent and creativity.

  • @FleshStarvingBass also, might wanna listen closely, the recording in quo vadis was crap, the bass tone was pretty horrible if i do say so myself,

  • also, mudvayne is more of a borderline scremo type thing, but the bassist is funky, i like him

  • To me, brain drill are like nuns. I don't really get them, but there are few people i have more respect for then them

  • not a huge brain drill fan but they are talented as fuck and so is this guy

  • So chilled.

  • love braindrill, love the cover. ever think about trying to learn The Parasites from apocalyptic feasting?

  • i hate the style, but i won't deny you have skill sir, nice.

  • this guy will fuck your girlfriends throat and laugh in your face while ripping these songs on bass

  • 93 people don't know the difficult of brain drills songs

  • BEEP BEEP MOTHAFUCKAS

  • tha same tapping in every song

  • Master....

  • wow dude, what rest to say? congratulations!!!!

  • Maybe he's just jeff hughell in disguise!?!?? Because that would make a hell of a lot more sense than actually learning this song (or any by brain drill) by ear, just fuckin whoa.

  • how the hell did you learn this song by ear!

  • When your playing, your hands look like a pair of spiders crawling around.

  • jó szar zenét játszik

  • insane playen man, check out my vocals of hells wrath, you might be think i am phill... leave a note good or bad.

  • @neenerteener ahahahah i'm not talking about this bassist

  • nice haircut! ;):D

  • whoa I have that same shirt

  • Tabs please.

  • That's just sexy....

  • put some ink on those paper arms

  • i bet he has carpaltunnel from playing this :D

  • Dude you rock for real.

  • It seems that every video has a reference to your sexual foreplay perk as a technical metal bassist.

  • Im many who at some point lived are in fact buried on that bass, as the title of this video points out....

  • that's not being technical. that's being unlistenable

  • @bertogrindfucker agreed.

  • @bertogrindfucker Hang on... so you are calling this unlistenable? stupid noise?

Well, that is what true art can be... too brutal for some, despite the artist/performer having high levels of instrumental mastery -.- Not for me... Brain Drill is true art amongst death metal

  • @RogueAndroid being technical is not sweeping as fast as you can with the most impossible phrases... yeah that's some kickass bass technique, but to me it sounds lame, it's just an exercise...

  • @bertogrindfucker

I hear that, In this form of music there sure as hell doesn't feel like there's any substance half the time, is he a great bass player? Hell yeah, do I notice anything but technique in this music? Not really.

I'm not into this sort of Death metal, not because it's too "Br00tal", but because it sounds soulless, just a bunch of musicians going through exercises while a vocalist does his best Corpsegrinder impersonation.

  • @EpsilonKias agreed. I love death metal and brutal death, and I think that a nice death metal song comes out when there's a riffing which creates an atmosphere [which I can't explain 'cause my english is not that good]. It's like michael angelo batio, he shreds fast as fuck but that does not make him a nice guitarist

  • @bertogrindfucker

...he is a GREAT guitarist lol.

  • @Unrated48 it's not all about speed, and all he has is speed

  • @EpsilonKias

It sounds pretty awesome to me and the only music experience I've gleaned is from listening to shit like this for a while now. The technicality that goes into a band playing an entire live set like this, seeing them pour over their instrument for 45m-1hr is where it's at. It gives the song even more soul. But I agree partially, a lot of tech death bands do have a cacophony of bullshit going on at once but like any other kind of music I could point out 4 shit bands for every 2 good.

  • @EpsilonKias

I totally agree with you, I also like death metal but Brain Drill is indeed very soulless band, so I think that using guitarlike octaves strings and tapping/sweeping on bass is useless and pointless. But I really admire A.J.'s technique and skill and I'm pretty sure that every metal bassist dreams to be like him (so do I), but i would like to see him play something that requires skill & soul, not just skill & complexity. But it's his musical taste, so he can play whatever he wants.

  • @EpsilonKias Indeed.

  • @EpsilonKias thats why i stop listening to cryptopsy... after the last3 albums i think and that was it for me... in my opinion blasphemy and none so vile are my fav... when it gets to technical like u say.. the feeling of it is gone.. but its still badass none the less..

  • @EpsilonKias That's kind of a poor analogy. Corpsegrinder is a terrible vocalist compared to most vocalists within Death metal because he uses a very weak sounding technique. Also, what pop musicians call "soul" is just the same scales as any other music but played slowly and with incessant string bending. The fact that the GOOD bands within metal use all of the good parts of each genre in their music shows diversity, and their ability to do so proves that they can play any other genre as well.

  • @IronreaverVII

Old blues musicians used to talk about finding things "Between" the notes, this sounds like scales being played with nothing between each note, I'm not one to put down anybody's skill, because he's very obviously a skilled musician, but this is overly complex, most tech-death is overly complex to my ear, and I'm not one who dislikes dissonance in his music by any means.

I will concede Corpsegrinder being a terrible vocalist insofar as Death Metal is concerned, though.

  • @EpsilonKias The "between" notes are denoted by the terms "quarter tone" or "quarter step", because in bending a note to a half step higher you obviously are going to encounter the notes between them. Also, I would like to elaborate a bit; I am not a fan of Brain Drill at all. Their music is technical and complex, but the complexity is bland and overused. The bands I enjoy only utilise technicality to an extent which compliments the music, and dissonance is only applied when in an augmented key.

  • @EpsilonKias All death metal doesn't sound like Brain Drill or Necrophagist. BD is a pretty hated band among DM fans.

  • @puupyy Fucking gay ass hole -_-

  • man that bass has bad ass response.!

  • fucking impressive

  • Awesome, you can see the muscles ripple in his forearms as he hammers on and off the strings. Intense cover. Intense-er haircut.

  • whats that tuning?

  • 86 people didn't bury the living

  • I love how the description is so modest, and u're a total badass XD

  • I feel like i just watched the earth implode on itself...

  • I can honestly say those fingers are amazing. This guy is amazing. I almost wish I was his girlfriend.

  • Who will pay me to pro tab this?

  • I hate you... I wish I could do that.

  • O_O

  • is that guitar 1500 bucks?

  • @goku413 More like 15000 bucks

  • @goku413 @Yargames That's a Conklin GT-7, you can buy them used for like 800 $. I've seen some for 600 $, but that's odd and some around 1200 $.

  • @goku413 In the age of the internetz, information like that is easily accessible.

  • can you do this song on a 6 string bass?

  • @deanguitars11 Probably not, because he hits the 24th fret of the highest string, tuned to an F. If you have that many frets, then maybe.

  • why did you shave the hair, man?

  • @concussedcarneous It's still long. It's shaved underneath. He just has it pulled up.

  • =) osk4r

  • Not as fast as jeff, but still amazing man!

  • its alright dude but can you play .........with you MIND!!!!

  • dude. join a band already. fuck.

  • not a hater, this guy is sick, but this song is just a big mesh up of riffs that are in different keys... you can totally hear it yo

  • Fuckin hell! This song would be real fun to play at any party...but playing it is friggin nuts! Your onto a win here!

  • I think he's a good masturbator! :D

  • eine schweigeminute für arnold schönberg an dieser stelle bitte...

  • JFC, i can appreciate the talent here but this song is terribad.

  • Are you working in guitar store? I saw you with so many diffrent guitars and on each you are owning. You're rly good bassplayer, i wish i could play even in half like you :)

  • Wow.

  • what make of bass is that?

  • @befrankis conklin

  • Its good but the bass fill isnt as fluid. Im a drummer. what do i know? this is awesome

  • brutal

  • This isour generations "Stairway to Heaven"...

  • fuck man not my forte but shit this is insanly hard soo much goin on this guys brain is on charlie sheen

  • @KenSansei

that's right, sure, but ordered noise is preferred by most listeners. As I wrote before it's respectable how somebody is able to practice lots and lots of hours to cover such a confusing song. It must be very hard to remember the all this different patterns.

On the other hand I can listen to a song like this 10 times, and it still gives me nothing. Good (noisy) songs have balls and touch your soul when listening to it. This is only confusing and nothing else.

  • OMG!

  • This must be Tosin Abasi's step brother. I can tell where they went in different directions... :/

  • why six strings and not four wats the deffrence?

  • @backflip369159 2 more strings

  • @link3784 so what?i mean does this have an effect in the sound???or make it more difficult?

  • @backflip369159 Nah it just makes it have a broader spectrum of notes

  • He probably won't read this, but he needs to fuck with his Bass' tone.

The video featuring their bassist, in the side bar, has him playing THIS song. And his tone makes everything sound actually really funky. And not at all dissonant.

  • @Copidat

Oh, and I'm an idiot. The video I was referring to is the video he's responding to.

  • sounds like random shit. sure, a technically very skilled bass player, especially concerning this tapping stuff. But this is not music.

  • @Ubertaker Yeah this band is not music at all. Still pretty ridiculous though

  • @Ubertaker music is noise man. that's just your insignificant opinion

  • What gear? Ps: I saw this video 7 times I still have no clue what he did

  • What gear?

  • i dont know how you did to make it one time at the begining GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!

  • amazing bass playing and a great undercut. mine was never that smoothe.....

  • chuck norris can do that without see

  • Comment removed

  • Date a bassist, have a happy vagina.

  • this guy could have a one man world tour just doing this and get like $5,000,000 in a week lol

  • Done by ear ಠ_ಠ

  • Comment removed

  • look at the wave on his arm when he taps at the begining

  • dude you have all the t-shirts i want
