Close the windows on a Lamborghini Gallardo and you hear all sorts of intricate sounds you won't hear on video. It's great! In Neutral or Park it doesn't rev so high. ;) It's limited to about 3000RPM if I'm not wrong.

That's why there is a rev-limiter. You can't over-rev or do a damage to a modern cars engine that has a rev-limiter while standing still and giving it gas in neutral. But still i hope the engine wasn't cold..

I don't think you could ever say that the Audi V8 sounds boring, you only have to listen to an S4 or R8 under hard acceleration to appreciate that.

I have to admit though, BMW and Porche V10s have the Audi engine licked in the aural pleasure department. Maybe Audi should ask Lamborghini to set it up for them, coz it sounds sensational in the Guillardo.

actually, every mechanic knows that an inline 6 or a v12 are the best balanced engines, and the crossplane v8 (american v8) is not a smooth/balanced engine at all ... and if you think that your golf vr6 has a nice sound , you should hear this v10 with powerfilters and a sports exhaust on it..:-) after all it is a luxury sedan, they had to damp the noise ..

Here in Europe Ford produce a 5cyl engine for the top of the range Focus ST. It has that lurvely off beat 5 cylinder burble that Audi Quattro rally cars used to have (such a sweet sound), and it's also bloody quick for a hatchback (compact).
