If Microsoft wants to truly make a next generation console they should wait until 2014 to release the Xbox 720 with the HD 8000 series GPU. I doubt this will happen if they already have plans to send the dev kits out. So I guess the next gen will be a few generations behind.

Microsoft chooses not to have any blu ray player, dvd player , floppy disk reader, flash card reader or what ever you might choose to call it. What if you need to download your games directly from the internet? They could "force" you to use xbox live (profit? surly!)... The developers would eliminate the retail game marked (even more profit? definitely!)...
They would both make a lot of (extra) money, so why wouldn't they?

What does everyone mean by flash based? I understand it goes DVD, then Blu-ray, but is it then go to Flash... drive? That would be sick to just plug in a flash drive instead of a disk haha that would be freakin cool!
From what I read/saw from over the net, there are plenty of games that push the 360 past it's working limits causing it to break down and freeze up. Some even causing the ROD on install. If M$ could somehow find and eliminate those problems, i would say it would be a win on their part. And the whole external hard-drive to "add storage capacity" is just another fail that they need to address. Using a bigger HDD could also help with the freezing and ROD on installs of huge games.
We only had the original Xbox for just under 5 years before they released the 360, we've now had the 360 (inc slim) for just over 6 years. Sony only waited 2 years between releasing the PS2 Slim and PS3, and we've had the 360 Slim since mid 2010, so who knows, we're due an upgrade, so fingers crossed the sooner the better, but let's hope Microsoft make it worthwhile.
I've never seen so much ignorance and speculation in the comments before. The "Xbox 720" release will coincide with a peak marketing time either before the upcoming Christmas (or more likely) the following Christmas. Sony's PS4 will be released just before the new gen Xbox to capture the earlier market so they can have a competitive edge after there "series of unfortunate events (overpowered, hacks, unneeded expensive touch button). The point is by mid 2012 we will know the approximate release.

six core cpu daul core gpu 2gb ddr 3 ram and prolly an ssd drive maybe a blu ray or straight hard drive or a memory cartrigde for the game 2gb ram is 4 times the current xbox 512 mb ram so it sounds like a 2.5 x leap in preformance with the infinity so its true next gen so wii u will be stomped

microsoft has already stated that they want to cater to casuals, just like sony has said they would do for the ps4. that combined with their greed wouldnt make it at all surprising if the 720 was underpowered compared to the wii u. that said all of the consoles will probably look the same, like the 360 and ps3, even if one is stronger than the others by a little bit

From what I read/saw from over the net, there are plenty of games that push the 360 past it's working limits causing it to break down and freeze up. Some even causing the ROD on install. If M$ could somehow find and eliminate those problems, i would say it would be a win on their part. And the whole external hard-drive to "add storage capacity" is just another fail that they need to address. Using a bigger HDD could also help with the freezing and ROD on installs of huge games.

We only had the original Xbox for just under 5 years before they released the 360, we've now had the 360 (inc slim) for just over 6 years. Sony only waited 2 years between releasing the PS2 Slim and PS3, and we've had the 360 Slim since mid 2010, so who knows, we're due an upgrade, so fingers crossed the sooner the better, but let's hope Microsoft make it worthwhile.

I've never seen so much ignorance and speculation in the comments before. The "Xbox 720" release will coincide with a peak marketing time either before the upcoming Christmas (or more likely) the following Christmas. Sony's PS4 will be released just before the new gen Xbox to capture the earlier market so they can have a competitive edge after there "series of unfortunate events (overpowered, hacks, unneeded expensive touch button). The point is by mid 2012 we will know the approximate release.

BLU-RAY DISKS ARE DEVELOPED AND MADE BY SONY SO, XBOX FANS YOU WILL NOT BE SEEING THAT IN YOUR HOME.
also, PS3 have wasted so so so so so much time, money and effort developing the PS3 if the PS4 comes out because the PS3 still hasn't been used to its full capability, even the Final Fantasy developers said they didnt have enough time or money to use all the tools that the PS3 had to offer.
And also sony dont make any profit on PS3, its all a stunt to smuggle BR players into homes to beat HDDVD

i heard they will be using AMD processors in the new XBOX so if thats the case then i won't be getting anywhere near the POS. i would expect Microsoft to go with intels processors. The new Xbox would be phenomenal If it uses a Intel I5 Quad core, Ik that its using a 3 core processor now and its doing just fine but if Microsoft were to put an I5 in it then the new xbox would be worlds ahead of any game console out there for a long period of time!!

It have to be backward compatible. So you can play your old 360 games and maybe even have your profile from the 360. So you can keep your achivements and stuff. Hell, they should just boost the 360. Better graphics, processor, ram etc...
