My sister's got a dachshund and recently she also bought a big punchbag hanging from the ceiling. When I go over and punch it and kick it the dog, Gregory, seems to sense my heightened aggression, and just goes crazy at me! Such a loud bark for such a small creature. Fierce little thing!

The "blood line" depends on which type they are--long haired actually have lots of spaniel in them, wire hair,terrier;there are some good articles on the selective breeding that took place in order to create these marvels. I think they are a class within themselves, I call my 2 long haired girls, The Super models,but since they are classified as "hounds" and certainly they can howl like the Hounds of Baskervilles if provoked, I'll go along with that classification-dog shows group them this way.

It's not a hound!!!!! Dachshund is german for "badger dog"! It is a terrier that the germans developed for hunting badgers! Only idiots around the world thought it was pronounced dachshound instead of dachshund, so it got placed with hounds. But it's not a hound!!
