You're booooooring!!! Calzaghe wasn't in too many super fights because he made them look easy. He beat Hopkins who fought diiiirty and made it a dull fight. The referee wouldn't let Joe fight either, so it wasn't a classic. No rematch, because Joe retired UNDEFEATED. He didn't fight bums, he fought Europeans, a lot better than the likes of Reggie Johnson that's for sure. Hopkins wouldn't fight Calzaghe earlier in his career, because he's a pussy!!!
First of all in Roy´s Prime,Joe Calzaghe would´nt have had a chance.. lucky for him that he fought Roy past his Prime..This seems to always happen with great Fighters,.they just don´t know when to quit! And that´s that!

27:30 seconds hot damn. doesnt matter what anyone else says, the speeds still there. its just everything else thats missing. the fighting heart being the biggest thing. roy never actually loved fighting, it was forced on him by his dad. theres an interview with him talking about thinking about killing himself when he was young.
watch jones vs joe again watch roy drop joe i swear to god look at roys face right after that and hes like shit that wasnt in the script, seriously never mind him not finishing like he used to look in this vid roys movin his head dodgin punchs throwin punches in bunches, why did he not do that agaisnt joe lol also how can you say jones has a bad chin when hes only been hurt twice and thats because of his no defense style lol not his chi if i hit you hard gangsta n uv got no defense your goindown
I thought I was the ONLY person that noticed that. Watching Jones vs. Calzaghe and Jones vs. Lacy is TWO DIFFERENT JONES. Jones didn't jump on Calzaghe like he did Lacy, ESPECIALLY after he put Calzaghe down. There were times when Calzaghe stood in front of Jones with his gloves down and Jones just stood there not hitting him. I was like WTF? Something was wrong with Jones that night, he was holding back big time.
He was up against a total different type of fighter, and lets be honest, I'm not a Cazaghe fan but he was a different class then 2. Jones knew that he couldn't punch more then Calzaghe and that the only way 2 win was a brawl. He didn't want to get hurt, and took the money. Such a shame about his chin, if he could took a punch and had the will to fight untill the end he would still be great. I think he had some damage in his carreer, that's why he goes down so easy now. He should quit.
@FlatBrooklynBush its a mind game man i mean seriously wat usually happens wen jones puts his gloves down and they try to hit him he fuken puts them down pay attention noob.
@blacknighted lol @ "noob", you must be 16 or something. Anyways kid, Jones hasn't put ANYONE down in a LONG time. So I really don't know what fight you've been watching. Calzaghe and Hopkins are two perfect examples that Jones' time is up and he won't be putting anyone down again... noob!
@FlatBrooklynBush wow man have u watched like none of jones fights? go support someone like green hes a dickhead like u. its called a fucking counter punch u know what that is? fuken retard
Joe Calzaghe is a good fighter but not great. A great fighter would have been like a Leonard,Duran,Hearns and would have forced the best to fight him by campaigning for a title shot by fighting at the champion's weight to force a governing body to force the champion to fight him. He chose to stay in a weak division and avoid fighting a prime Jones, If a young Thomas Hearns were around he would have fought Jones win lose or draw.
@ncupsman62 Wow what a great fight that would of been,,And what is really cool they could of tryed it in multi weight classes since both Roy and Thomas won belts in multi divisons..that would of been cool,, As far as Roy ..he won the fight...but if he would of caught Roy when Roy was still hungry..He would'nt of lasted 3 rounds..Roy lost he's desire.. lost the eye of the tiger...lol
or glen johnson and guess what joe did he vacated his belts lol because he wanted to fight a club fighter or maybe mario viet again lmao, end of his career is a sham and he lives in a mansion and has tons of money because of of mugs like you, also how can you say hes got a gr8 chin when its never been truly tested lol. go look up chad dawson a hungry fast powerful and young boxer and tell me joe would not get fucked up
i know ur gona say but hes 46 and 0 by slapping so wyf calum, fact is he fought 6 decent fighters in his career eubank, jones bhop those 3 shoulda retired realistcly again chasing money, kessler, lacy, and ried and lacy overhyped has been beat by taylor and jones, both not in there best years, ried beat him like it or not , bhop came so close even roach thought he won, kessler being the best joe fought noone else, and then wanted one last fight in wales but thy said it had to be chad dawson
at least jones fought some a class fighters who were in there primes lol, and i have it like this 9 years ago joe wouldnt touch jones because fighters who threw real punches and couldnt touch him or never enough until the guy decided i know ill go up and down weight like a yoyo lol not bothering that it would fuck him up just chasing status and money, i see joe landing a few slapping punches now im not saying he literally slaps but he does not thow punches correctly and he a youung jones
anyone smell joe payin jones all or most of the money from the fight so that joe remains untarnished? or is just because of roys ever had a boxing match with a girl or the guy down the pub lmao which im sorry but calzaghe seriously has invented a new punch its like the windmill crossed with a jab lol aka the slap no power jus confuses you and can give you cuts if he hits with the right part of the glove
if you notice in this fight roys game on the ropes and defensively is nothing like roys ever done 1 fing i wonder though is it lacy who was overhyped which is obviosus, although taylor and calzaghe coudnt stop him, a 43 yr old jones fucked him up, now why didnt jones who in my oppenion is the best finisher in middlewight ever only after tyson at heavyweight why the fuck didnt roy jump on calzaghes face after he droped him thats nothing like the roy i knew
The way i look at a fight is i try and imagine RJ VS JC and think of them fighting in their primes, not who they fought as both of them have got to the top by beating mostly class B fighters, RJ looked amazing beating the class B fighters in his prime. If we imagine both these guys at each other 9 years ago you get a great fight with 2 hungry world champs. RJ cant KO JC coz of JC great chin JC cant KO Jones as he's not a 1 punch man at WC level, its an even fight, JC is every bit a fighter RJ is
U dont understand,Calzaghe is HIGHLY overrated, hes nothing special now or back in his prime, and if jones in his prime wanted 2 get rid of calzaghe early,HE WOULD HAVE DONE IT EASILY!!,Joe would have been no competition at all!!..dont get me wrong I respect yur opinion, but this is nothin to debate about lol, even the greatest die hard Calzaghe fans know Prime Roy makes prime Joe taste canvas again and again, like dirrell said "RJ WOULD HAVE SLAUGHTERED DAT MAN" take care man
u keep talking about a prime RJ well JC was past his best too and still beat RJ, at the end of the day its your opinion JC was 37 when he fought RJ and RJ. If only we could ask RJ this question, he would tell you Calzaghe is one of the best fighters he has fought. He fucked RJ up. No compitition? come on man, your putting RJ up on a pedistal too much, JC was SM champ for over a decade and you think he is no comp for RJ, your too cought up in seeing RJ beat bums like Frazier the policeman etc etc
RJ beating Bums?? who did calzaghe beat?? calzaghe hasnt beaten anybody himself!! Kessler is not proven,Lacy has been gettin his ass badly whupped by everybody now,and joe beat 2 past prime fighters, and he lost dat fight wit B-hop everyone says it,Calzaghe is nothin but hype, and sadly dats 1 of the reasons hes not considered as a great and gets no respect,RJ on the other hand is a PROVEN legend
I said in my first post Calzaghe has been fighting mostly class B fighter too, like Jones. Its easy to look good against them. It was a close fight with B-Hop but he won, his aggessive style won him the fight. Jones is with oout doubt one of the greatest fighters we have seen, the only reason i dont put him in the top 5 is because of his chim, he most certainly is a top 10 of all time. Calzaghe is a top 50 fighter, only because he has not been mainstream throughout his career.
I dont know what fight you were watching but it was evident that RJJ against Calzaghe made no attempt to finish Calzaghe off after flooring him, INfact he stepped back and stood like a statue. Calzaghe did not even retaliate much and was actually tentatively approaching Jones.
I to this day wonder what RJJ was doing. Some say the fight was fixed.
Basically mate what i think it boiled down too was that both these fighters respected each other skills and Calzaghe said Jones was always dangerous and Roy doesnt rush in to finish his man anymore he was always carefull now he is very gun-shy, he had the opportunity to finish Tarver off in their 3rd fight but stood back and didnt do anything, he is definately gun-shy
Don't be so quick to judge. Roy is only back if he fights a fighter with a broken will to win and is roughly the same height. He will keep beating the Lacy's and even the Taylors out there. Those sort of fighters. If Taylor would go to 175lbs, then he would make Roy look good.
Roy will have to avoid fighting an aggressively tactical offensive fighter if wants to continue to win. He would do best by avoiding young European fighters with aggressive flurry punching.
wat the hell you talking about fightfanforlife in case you forgot calzage was dropped like a bad habbit in the 2nd round he was supposed to get tacken out with the trash when a man get beat up to where he gets cut hes suppose to get knocked out but it diddnt happen plese watch your mouth when you talk about that and rewatch the fight if you have to
and i know im gonna get a lot of stick because people searching roy jones videos are obv Roy fans but i believe Joe Calzaghe would have been Roys's toughest opponent at any point in Roy's wonderful carrer
im a huge roy jones fan and i agree with u....we cant really say who would win though....but i know one things for sure if jones were in his prime when he fought calzaghe it would have been a lot more competitive and jones would have gone harder at joe after knocking him down.
Okay....but in my opinion Roy would have EASILY and I mean EASILY...wait lemme say it again so everybody will understand me Roy Jones Jr would have "EASILY" destroyed Joe calzaghe in their prime,I say the fight doesnt go more then 3 rnds,If a FAR past prime RJ could hurt/Drop Joe in the very 1st rnd,Just Imagine what PRIME Roy would have done to Calzaghe,Calzaghe is nothing special,Hes just VERY VERY overrated/Overhyped
No way does Jones beat Calzaghe in 3 rounds. I am a big Jones fan and have seen all his fights, he fought no one as quick and as busy as Calzaghe, the fight in their primes would be closer however with Jones winning early 2nd half of the fight is Calzaghe's. Roy went 12 rounds with plenty of fighters in his prime what makes you think he would KO a prime Calzaghe in 3? JC chin is amazing. I think with my head not my heart and a prime Calzaghe would give Jones his toughest fight of his career IMO
@boxingGARDEN Early on their was a chance for a Gerald Mcclellan match, Mcclellan was the best fighter in the world at the time, would have closed shop with Calzaghe and Lacy
@boxingGARDEN wow.. i just watched some highlights of Joe and i have to disagree... his speed is nowhere near Roy Jones's, and i dont really think he can take one of his punches..
@boxingGARDEN true but Roy Jones prime vs Joe Calzaghe prime... Calzaghe ends up in the hospital with cracked ribs for trying to force his style on his opponent like how he always does and Jones just takes a step back pop him a couple times another step to the side then... BOOM! Joe just went deaf. Calzaghe is fast... but not fast enough
Calzaghe was a completely different fighter to Lacy. Lacy is a attacker with little head movement and no variation of Punches. Tailor made for fast hands like Roy. Calzaghe on the other hand boobed and weaved to a tee in his fight with Jones. Calzaghe also throws ALOT of punches. Roy could never get off like that with Calzaghe. Inhindsight, Calzaghes victory looks pretty God dam impressive. OH, Calzaghe was also past his prime (Joe was 36, Jones was 39) when he fought Jones.
People usually don't lose it at the same point. Calzaghe never traveled weight classes like Roy. Roy went up to heavyweight and dropped a ton of weight to fight Tarver. He had bags under his eyes and looked tired. Was very weight drained and didn't look himself. He still win a decision, but should have retired after that. He then got dropped badly twice in 3 fights after that and he just never looked the same. You compare Roy at 39 to Roy at 32 and Calzaghe at 36 to Calzaghe at 32. WAY different
There was something about that fight with Joe Calzaghe , that never smelled right at first I just thought oh well Roy is old and just not what he was. Seeing this ???
These guys give it all they got, and in comes the camera to start zooming in on the next contender's face.
The camera jockeys should let "veterans" retire peacefully, but instead they encourage fighting until your brain is mashed potatoes, a la Muhammad Ali.
I don't even have to click your profile to know you're a white boy from the UK. Nobody else has ever been stupid enough to suggest such a thing.
Sorry, you can't hide in your backyard fighting 35 handpicked bums, beat 3 mediocre fighters, beat up a shot old man, and get a gift decision against an old man and be considered anything more than a BUM
@pearcemark2 haha! Yes, I'm a white guy from the UK and I think we generally have a more realistic view of how good (or not) our national boxers are on the world stage, than Americans.
I wish Calzaghe had fought Jones in his prime, but when Jones had lost then, you'd still make excuses for him. Watch the fight again, it's not a Jones defeat, it's an annihilation. Jones is sat on his chair, saying to his cornerman "I'm trying, I'm trying... I can't get him." Jones lost 5 times ffs.
@MrBarronator You really don't. You have a ridiculous, unrealistic, ungodly biased view.
Calzaghe fought a BEYOND WASHED UP JONES
He fought a guy that not only destroyed his body himself, but suffered 2 MASSIVE knockout losses, out cold, on the mat for minutes at a time. His nervous system is fucked. He has no legs, no chin, no reflexes. He's 30% of what he was in his prime.
@pearcemark2 hahaha! Exaggaeration much!?! You're the unrealistic one bro... not me. There you were commenting on how good Jones was AFTER he fought Calzaghe, in this fight, now you're saying he was washed up.
In this fight they're saying Jones has lost nothing of his hand speed, in the Calzaghe fight they were saying how slow Jones was. You can't have it both ways.
Calzaghe was just enjoyed himself, he could have gone for a knockout but they like each other.
@MrBarronator Dude, the hand speed is the ONLY thing Roy retained. The legs, gone. Strength, gone. Chin, gone. Power, gone.
Of course Jones looked great here, he fought a complete bum. The same talentless bum Calzaghe made his name off of. Calzaghe hid in his backyard, fighting every cripple and 3-17 fighter they could muster up, a couple other phony's with padded record, and attempted to "seal his legacy" by fighting carefully chosen old men. And Hopkins gave him the beating of his life.
@pearcemark2 Well he never had a chin. Strength not gone, that's always the last thing to go. Apart from BHop and maybe Castro, who the hell did Jones really fight? When he fought someone half decent, he lost to a few of them. Calzaghe beat up Eubank in one of his first fights. You're right, Lacy's pretty shit but most Americans didn't give Calzaghe a chance. Why? Because Lacy was American. Calzaghe's about the same age as Jones and injuries plagued his career.
@MrBarronator Dude, you clearly have zero understanding of Jones' history. His age is a small factor in the decline. It's the fact that he packed on 35 pounds of muscle to face Ruiz, and 8 months later DESTROYED HIS BODY by sucking all of it back off to cut down to 175 again and face Tarver. Look at his body before and after. It's a complete different person. He became this weird pudgy turtle shell.
And fucking CALZAGHE HIMSELF admitted Jones is beyond washed up before fighting him.
@MrBarronator Calzaghe beat Eubank right at the end of his career. Gee, what a coincidence, just like everyone else he faced, either a bum or an old man.
B-Hop, a weight drained James Toney, and Montell Griffin were probably Jones' best wins. The difference between him and Calzaghe though? Jones DOMINATED everyone he faced. Rarely ever lost a round in his prime.
Calzaghe never had a prime. He's had so many 50/50 fights that were given to him, it's almost sad how lucky that fuck is.
@pearcemark2 Calzaghe had two 50/50s BHop and Robin Reid... that's all. Anyway, we're wasting our lives talking about this. RJJ is great...very entertaining fighter. Joe also extremely entertaining. Both good friends, both enormous respect for one another and their fighting styles. IMO, Calzaghe fought just as good quality opposition as Jones, throughout his career and like I say, I wish they'd fought sooner and wish Joe had had a bigger profile in the States earlier. He would have been a legend
@pearcemark2 OMFG - Can't believe I've been wasting my time. You know nothing about boxing! Hatton's not in the same league. He's a bum and you're a bum lover.
Prince Naseem was a British lightweight (his highlights video is amazing). Devastating power, he knocked out everyone he fought, in style. Then he fought Barrera (nobody gave an aging Barrera a chance) but he schooled Prince. Prince got found out, just like RJJ. Nobody has ever made Joe look slow like Calzaghe did to your hero.
@MrBarronator I don't even like watching Roy. I find him boring. But Calzaghe did nothing that Tarver, Johnson, and Hopkins haven't done to him. All when he was past his prime after he destroyed his body and was 30% of his old self.
Seriously, bragging about that victory is like me going to a nursing home and kicking Jake Lamotta in the teeth, today. And talking about how I beat his ass like nobody else. It's fucking pathetic. Joe is a coward. At least Hatton took his beatings like a man.
@pearcemark2 Fuck dude, I'm not bragging about it. YouTube is full of people calling Roy one of the greatest of all time and Joe a nobody. You say he'd not lost his hand speed, fact is, Roy couldn't even find Joe. He didn't really do much better than Lacy.
All managers protect their fighters, i wish Joe had a few more super-fights, Jones and Hopkins ducked him earlier and they fought more bums than he did. You don't like him, that's your loss. Fact is Calzaghe won and was past his prime himself
@MrBarronator You're delusional. Hopkins has massacred so many undefeated fighters, and fighters with 1 or 2 close decision losses. He unified the titles. Calzaghe can never measure up to what Hopkins has accomplished. And he knows his record should've been 44-1, and would've been 45-1 if he wasn't such a gigantic pussy, denying a rematch. Of course, why rematch a guy that kicked your ass? No, instead I'll rematch Mario Veit, a fucking bum with a padded record who I KO'd in the first round.
@MrBarronator It's okay though. B-Hop got robbed against Calzaghe, he got robbed against Pascal, but Pascal isn't a bitch. He's ready to go to war for a second time. And Hopkins WILL get the Light Heavyweight Title that he deserved 3 years ago when he bruised and bloodied a sissy cuckboy's face, took no damage himself (aside from low blows, rabbit punches, and girl slaps), and somehow didn't get.
@MrBarronator Got nothing against Calzaghe, he was a pretty good boxer however his better fights did always seem to come a bit late and against older boxers or boxers who have lost their love for boxing and a majority of their skill level e.g. calzaghe vs. Eubank
nobody fuckme...this Roy is the best of all time...yeah he had bad times but when he is good nobody is better tahn him....Amazing of all time-....Roy Jones King

i know ur gona say but hes 46 and 0 by slapping so wyf calum, fact is he fought 6 decent fighters in his career eubank, jones bhop those 3 shoulda retired realistcly again chasing money, kessler, lacy, and ried and lacy overhyped has been beat by taylor and jones, both not in there best years, ried beat him like it or not , bhop came so close even roach thought he won, kessler being the best joe fought noone else, and then wanted one last fight in wales but thy said it had to be chad dawson
xcalumt91x 2 years ago
at least jones fought some a class fighters who were in there primes lol, and i have it like this 9 years ago joe wouldnt touch jones because fighters who threw real punches and couldnt touch him or never enough until the guy decided i know ill go up and down weight like a yoyo lol not bothering that it would fuck him up just chasing status and money, i see joe landing a few slapping punches now im not saying he literally slaps but he does not thow punches correctly and he a youung jones

anyone smell joe payin jones all or most of the money from the fight so that joe remains untarnished? or is just because of roys ever had a boxing match with a girl or the guy down the pub lmao which im sorry but calzaghe seriously has invented a new punch its like the windmill crossed with a jab lol aka the slap no power jus confuses you and can give you cuts if he hits with the right part of the glove
xcalumt91x 2 years ago
if you notice in this fight roys game on the ropes and defensively is nothing like roys ever done 1 fing i wonder though is it lacy who was overhyped which is obviosus, although taylor and calzaghe coudnt stop him, a 43 yr old jones fucked him up, now why didnt jones who in my oppenion is the best finisher in middlewight ever only after tyson at heavyweight why the fuck didnt roy jump on calzaghes face after he droped him thats nothing like the roy i knew
xcalumt91x 2 years ago
The way i look at a fight is i try and imagine RJ VS JC and think of them fighting in their primes, not who they fought as both of them have got to the top by beating mostly class B fighters, RJ looked amazing beating the class B fighters in his prime. If we imagine both these guys at each other 9 years ago you get a great fight with 2 hungry world champs. RJ cant KO JC coz of JC great chin JC cant KO Jones as he's not a 1 punch man at WC level, its an even fight, JC is every bit a fighter RJ is
gangst1978 2 years ago
U dont understand,Calzaghe is HIGHLY overrated, hes nothing special now or back in his prime, and if jones in his prime wanted 2 get rid of calzaghe early,HE WOULD HAVE DONE IT EASILY!!,Joe would have been no competition at all!!..dont get me wrong I respect yur opinion, but this is nothin to debate about lol, even the greatest die hard Calzaghe fans know Prime Roy makes prime Joe taste canvas again and again, like dirrell said "RJ WOULD HAVE SLAUGHTERED DAT MAN" take care man
mrPR2490 2 years ago
u keep talking about a prime RJ well JC was past his best too and still beat RJ, at the end of the day its your opinion JC was 37 when he fought RJ and RJ. If only we could ask RJ this question, he would tell you Calzaghe is one of the best fighters he has fought. He fucked RJ up. No compitition? come on man, your putting RJ up on a pedistal too much, JC was SM champ for over a decade and you think he is no comp for RJ, your too cought up in seeing RJ beat bums like Frazier the policeman etc etc
gangst1978 2 years ago
RJ beating Bums?? who did calzaghe beat?? calzaghe hasnt beaten anybody himself!! Kessler is not proven,Lacy has been gettin his ass badly whupped by everybody now,and joe beat 2 past prime fighters, and he lost dat fight wit B-hop everyone says it,Calzaghe is nothin but hype, and sadly dats 1 of the reasons hes not considered as a great and gets no respect,RJ on the other hand is a PROVEN legend
mrPR2490 2 years ago 2
I said in my first post Calzaghe has been fighting mostly class B fighter too, like Jones. Its easy to look good against them. It was a close fight with B-Hop but he won, his aggessive style won him the fight. Jones is with oout doubt one of the greatest fighters we have seen, the only reason i dont put him in the top 5 is because of his chim, he most certainly is a top 10 of all time. Calzaghe is a top 50 fighter, only because he has not been mainstream throughout his career.

gangst1978 (6 days ago) ,
I dont know what fight you were watching but it was evident that RJJ against Calzaghe made no attempt to finish Calzaghe off after flooring him, INfact he stepped back and stood like a statue. Calzaghe did not even retaliate much and was actually tentatively approaching Jones.
I to this day wonder what RJJ was doing. Some say the fight was fixed.
sonofthedestroyer 2 years ago
Basically mate what i think it boiled down too was that both these fighters respected each other skills and Calzaghe said Jones was always dangerous and Roy doesnt rush in to finish his man anymore he was always carefull now he is very gun-shy, he had the opportunity to finish Tarver off in their 3rd fight but stood back and didnt do anything, he is definately gun-shy

Roy Jones is an adrenaline fighter and needs to show boat to boost his adrenaline levels higher.
Roy Jones needs to keep doing what he is doing cause he looked bloddy impressive in this fight.
In fact I would say he could beat Calzaghe easily now.
Old Roy is back.

KIMBOSLICE66666 2 years ago

Just to let everyone know
and i know im gonna get a lot of stick because people searching roy jones videos are obv Roy fans but i believe Joe Calzaghe would have been Roys's toughest opponent at any point in Roy's wonderful carrer
boxingGARDEN 2 years ago
im a huge roy jones fan and i agree with u....we cant really say who would win though....but i know one things for sure if jones were in his prime when he fought calzaghe it would have been a lot more competitive and jones would have gone harder at joe after knocking him down.
Apgoose 2 years ago
Okay....but in my opinion Roy would have EASILY and I mean EASILY...wait lemme say it again so everybody will understand me Roy Jones Jr would have "EASILY" destroyed Joe calzaghe in their prime,I say the fight doesnt go more then 3 rnds,If a FAR past prime RJ could hurt/Drop Joe in the very 1st rnd,Just Imagine what PRIME Roy would have done to Calzaghe,Calzaghe is nothing special,Hes just VERY VERY overrated/Overhyped
mrPR2490 2 years ago
I agree dude
soxsuck1 2 years ago
No way does Jones beat Calzaghe in 3 rounds. I am a big Jones fan and have seen all his fights, he fought no one as quick and as busy as Calzaghe, the fight in their primes would be closer however with Jones winning early 2nd half of the fight is Calzaghe's. Roy went 12 rounds with plenty of fighters in his prime what makes you think he would KO a prime Calzaghe in 3? JC chin is amazing. I think with my head not my heart and a prime Calzaghe would give Jones his toughest fight of his career IMO
gangst1978 2 years ago
@boxingGARDEN Early on their was a chance for a Gerald Mcclellan match, Mcclellan was the best fighter in the world at the time, would have closed shop with Calzaghe and Lacy

@boxingGARDEN wow.. i just watched some highlights of Joe and i have to disagree... his speed is nowhere near Roy Jones's, and i dont really think he can take one of his punches..
rasboi16 11 months ago
@boxingGARDEN true but Roy Jones prime vs Joe Calzaghe prime... Calzaghe ends up in the hospital with cracked ribs for trying to force his style on his opponent like how he always does and Jones just takes a step back pop him a couple times another step to the side then... BOOM! Joe just went deaf. Calzaghe is fast... but not fast enough
VeniceTrojan 10 months ago
@boxingGARDEN and i think you are probably from england right?
Felces 9 months ago
Calzaghe was a completely different fighter to Lacy. Lacy is a attacker with little head movement and no variation of Punches. Tailor made for fast hands like Roy. Calzaghe on the other hand boobed and weaved to a tee in his fight with Jones. Calzaghe also throws ALOT of punches. Roy could never get off like that with Calzaghe. Inhindsight, Calzaghes victory looks pretty God dam impressive. OH, Calzaghe was also past his prime (Joe was 36, Jones was 39) when he fought Jones.
FIGHTFANFORLIFE 2 years ago
People usually don't lose it at the same point. Calzaghe never traveled weight classes like Roy. Roy went up to heavyweight and dropped a ton of weight to fight Tarver. He had bags under his eyes and looked tired. Was very weight drained and didn't look himself. He still win a decision, but should have retired after that. He then got dropped badly twice in 3 fights after that and he just never looked the same. You compare Roy at 39 to Roy at 32 and Calzaghe at 36 to Calzaghe at 32. WAY different

I blame the media though:
These guys give it all they got, and in comes the camera to start zooming in on the next contender's face.
The camera jockeys should let "veterans" retire peacefully, but instead they encourage fighting until your brain is mashed potatoes, a la Muhammad Ali.

@MrBarronator LMFAO
I don't even have to click your profile to know you're a white boy from the UK. Nobody else has ever been stupid enough to suggest such a thing.
Sorry, you can't hide in your backyard fighting 35 handpicked bums, beat 3 mediocre fighters, beat up a shot old man, and get a gift decision against an old man and be considered anything more than a BUM
pearcemark2 9 months ago
@pearcemark2 haha! Yes, I'm a white guy from the UK and I think we generally have a more realistic view of how good (or not) our national boxers are on the world stage, than Americans.
I wish Calzaghe had fought Jones in his prime, but when Jones had lost then, you'd still make excuses for him. Watch the fight again, it's not a Jones defeat, it's an annihilation. Jones is sat on his chair, saying to his cornerman "I'm trying, I'm trying... I can't get him." Jones lost 5 times ffs.
MrBarronator 9 months ago
@MrBarronator You really don't. You have a ridiculous, unrealistic, ungodly biased view.
Calzaghe fought a BEYOND WASHED UP JONES
He fought a guy that not only destroyed his body himself, but suffered 2 MASSIVE knockout losses, out cold, on the mat for minutes at a time. His nervous system is fucked. He has no legs, no chin, no reflexes. He's 30% of what he was in his prime.
And pussyboy Calzaghe STILL couldn't finish him.
pearcemark2 9 months ago
@pearcemark2 hahaha! Exaggaeration much!?! You're the unrealistic one bro... not me. There you were commenting on how good Jones was AFTER he fought Calzaghe, in this fight, now you're saying he was washed up.
In this fight they're saying Jones has lost nothing of his hand speed, in the Calzaghe fight they were saying how slow Jones was. You can't have it both ways.
Calzaghe was just enjoyed himself, he could have gone for a knockout but they like each other.
MrBarronator 9 months ago
@MrBarronator Dude, the hand speed is the ONLY thing Roy retained. The legs, gone. Strength, gone. Chin, gone. Power, gone.
Of course Jones looked great here, he fought a complete bum. The same talentless bum Calzaghe made his name off of. Calzaghe hid in his backyard, fighting every cripple and 3-17 fighter they could muster up, a couple other phony's with padded record, and attempted to "seal his legacy" by fighting carefully chosen old men. And Hopkins gave him the beating of his life.
pearcemark2 9 months ago
@pearcemark2 Well he never had a chin. Strength not gone, that's always the last thing to go. Apart from BHop and maybe Castro, who the hell did Jones really fight? When he fought someone half decent, he lost to a few of them. Calzaghe beat up Eubank in one of his first fights. You're right, Lacy's pretty shit but most Americans didn't give Calzaghe a chance. Why? Because Lacy was American. Calzaghe's about the same age as Jones and injuries plagued his career.
MrBarronator 9 months ago
@MrBarronator Dude, you clearly have zero understanding of Jones' history. His age is a small factor in the decline. It's the fact that he packed on 35 pounds of muscle to face Ruiz, and 8 months later DESTROYED HIS BODY by sucking all of it back off to cut down to 175 again and face Tarver. Look at his body before and after. It's a complete different person. He became this weird pudgy turtle shell.
And fucking CALZAGHE HIMSELF admitted Jones is beyond washed up before fighting him.
pearcemark2 9 months ago
@MrBarronator Calzaghe beat Eubank right at the end of his career. Gee, what a coincidence, just like everyone else he faced, either a bum or an old man.
B-Hop, a weight drained James Toney, and Montell Griffin were probably Jones' best wins. The difference between him and Calzaghe though? Jones DOMINATED everyone he faced. Rarely ever lost a round in his prime.
Calzaghe never had a prime. He's had so many 50/50 fights that were given to him, it's almost sad how lucky that fuck is.
pearcemark2 9 months ago
@pearcemark2 Calzaghe had two 50/50s BHop and Robin Reid... that's all. Anyway, we're wasting our lives talking about this. RJJ is great...very entertaining fighter. Joe also extremely entertaining. Both good friends, both enormous respect for one another and their fighting styles. IMO, Calzaghe fought just as good quality opposition as Jones, throughout his career and like I say, I wish they'd fought sooner and wish Joe had had a bigger profile in the States earlier. He would have been a legend
MrBarronator 9 months ago
@MrBarronator He would have been a legend if he beat anybody and didn't hide for 93% of his career
but as we reflect back on this decades from now, Stay At Home Joe will be remembered as a joke if he's remembered at all. Hatton is better.
pearcemark2 9 months ago
@pearcemark2 OMFG - Can't believe I've been wasting my time. You know nothing about boxing! Hatton's not in the same league. He's a bum and you're a bum lover.
Prince Naseem was a British lightweight (his highlights video is amazing). Devastating power, he knocked out everyone he fought, in style. Then he fought Barrera (nobody gave an aging Barrera a chance) but he schooled Prince. Prince got found out, just like RJJ. Nobody has ever made Joe look slow like Calzaghe did to your hero.
MrBarronator 9 months ago
@MrBarronator I don't even like watching Roy. I find him boring. But Calzaghe did nothing that Tarver, Johnson, and Hopkins haven't done to him. All when he was past his prime after he destroyed his body and was 30% of his old self.
Seriously, bragging about that victory is like me going to a nursing home and kicking Jake Lamotta in the teeth, today. And talking about how I beat his ass like nobody else. It's fucking pathetic. Joe is a coward. At least Hatton took his beatings like a man.
pearcemark2 9 months ago
@pearcemark2 Fuck dude, I'm not bragging about it. YouTube is full of people calling Roy one of the greatest of all time and Joe a nobody. You say he'd not lost his hand speed, fact is, Roy couldn't even find Joe. He didn't really do much better than Lacy.
All managers protect their fighters, i wish Joe had a few more super-fights, Jones and Hopkins ducked him earlier and they fought more bums than he did. You don't like him, that's your loss. Fact is Calzaghe won and was past his prime himself
MrBarronator 9 months ago
@MrBarronator You're delusional. Hopkins has massacred so many undefeated fighters, and fighters with 1 or 2 close decision losses. He unified the titles. Calzaghe can never measure up to what Hopkins has accomplished. And he knows his record should've been 44-1, and would've been 45-1 if he wasn't such a gigantic pussy, denying a rematch. Of course, why rematch a guy that kicked your ass? No, instead I'll rematch Mario Veit, a fucking bum with a padded record who I KO'd in the first round.
pearcemark2 9 months ago
@MrBarronator It's okay though. B-Hop got robbed against Calzaghe, he got robbed against Pascal, but Pascal isn't a bitch. He's ready to go to war for a second time. And Hopkins WILL get the Light Heavyweight Title that he deserved 3 years ago when he bruised and bloodied a sissy cuckboy's face, took no damage himself (aside from low blows, rabbit punches, and girl slaps), and somehow didn't get.
pearcemark2 9 months ago
@MrBarronator Got nothing against Calzaghe, he was a pretty good boxer however his better fights did always seem to come a bit late and against older boxers or boxers who have lost their love for boxing and a majority of their skill level e.g. calzaghe vs. Eubank
