@progrockman85 That CANT be true. By his own admission, in an interview he said his swing wasn't as good as a lot of the drummers he encounters. Now - dont get me wrong, he's world class. But he cant be the best if he struggles with a style.  To be the best drummer in the world, you'd have to be the best at doing everything that could be done on the instrument.

@NPC919 It doesn't just come suddenly but if you get a camera and record yourself every couple of weeks you can see that the kind of improvements you've make in your playing are amazing. The thing about drumming is that it's hard. There's no trick or secret to it and just practicing doesn't cut it. Practice the things you are bad at.

@DamesDolman My opinion is that to prefer one drummer over another don't requier the one drummer to have more skill than the other. Its a strange consept.

One of my favorite drummers are thomas lang, but that doesn't mean hes the best. I believe that tiny details is what makes a drummer someones favorite. And most drummers won't be able to explain why their favorite drummer is their favorite.

But its totally different styles of playing :S its like trying to compare Jimi Hendrix to Eric Clapton, just cant work. Also - Dave has like, what - 15 years extra experience over Royster and yet Royster is still considered the drum prodigy. I dont think anyone Tony's age can play as good as him so imagine what he will be like when hes's Weckl's age. But dont get me wrong, Weckl is awesome :D

Dave Weckl is a drummer's drummer. In other words, his phrasing and technique can only be understood and appreciated by others who are musicians or drum also. Also, he's huge in European and Asian countries; but Americans are too busy drooling over 4/4 rock beats and uninspired death metal double bass.
