these are "cool" tricks for throwing around in the backyard and i know you mean well and i appreciate that... but all of these videos have little to do with ultimate and would never be used in an actual game
The game must not have been very competitive... once the handler assumes the grip for that throw, it is easy to defend (hand block) since there is a limited range of space where the disc can leave the handler's possession. And in order to switch out of that grip, the handler must use their other hand, wasting time and a possible fake.
@harlenshaker well there is one advantage to the thumber which is that its possible to extend ur entire arm outward with this throw without losing stability whereas with the flick u need to keep ur elbow locked at ur side if u don't want a wobbly throw, and with relatively short distances its actually possible to fake this and step around to throw the frisbee upside down in the exact same grip with a backhand-like motion
