I guess him saying "mom?" when hearing the female computer voice was a way of showing a teetering relationship on the boundry of artifical, and human.
Just what I took from it. I love this movie so much!
I always thought of Tyrell Corp. as the 'mother'... Tyrell the father... Tyrell Corp. the mother... the piramids sugested me a womb... now... the voice on the speaker... the voice of Tyrell Corp... the voice of 'mom'... cold... devoided of any emotion...
Wow. The first part wasn't necessary. But the "MOM?" scene? I would have loved to see that in the original print. It would have been a great WTF and have generated years of questions...
The meaning of "-Mom!", in my opinion is: Batty was created by The Tyrell Corp. and thus his so called "memories" as well. The elevator voice must have been recycled as the memory Batty has of his mothers voice. It is almost as if he leans over to scream out to his mom on the other side of the wall.
I love the whole scene going down the elevator. His looks confused and scared and the voice of the elevator sounds like the "mom" in his memories. That is some deep stuff!
I've only ever seen the Editor's Cut version, but I think I would have liked to have seen this elevator scene included.
How he got to see the unseeable man(elevator with the access card), the conversation w/Tyrell and killing from the director's cut, AND THEN how Batty escaped from the high security building(hence the first elevator part with the access card) NOT ONLY showing that he feels fear/remorse/guilt(?), but the voice in the elevator is the same as the fictitious memory of his "Mom"!
But the voice "is" his mother, implanted as the memory of her, which is but a computer generated voice, a double treason of an implanted, artificial mother.
This comes out to me as such a surprise! At first I thought it was a joke. I found it so hilarious at first! The poses, the camera angles, the ID pass card thing, the milk (and Tyrell's expression in reaction to it) and the whole 'fast forwarded' dialogue that made you think there was a huge, giant gaping plot hole in rhere. But then I check out the comments and all that people are laughing about is Mom???!!! I cant believe this was to be taken seriously.
Interesting take. Sort of when he has killed his "father" he goes to mommy for consolation. I can see that i might have confused first time watchers though and was left out.
This was a gem for us true fans, thanks for sharing.
That was not Tyrell's coat he was embracing in tihs cut. I think it was Sebastian's. Would he have been remorseful killing him. Needs comfort from mom.
this cut makes absolutely no sense. He wanted to talk to tyrell to begin with, this cut just gives the impression he killed him without even a conversation happening. Just surprised this was even made.
This was in an alternate takes collection, so I suppose they cut away the conversation because there weren't actually any worthy alternate takes of that scene.
You have to understand even though batty has superior strength and intelligence he kind of has the mind frame of a child. Plus if you want to get into more detail the the computer voice probably sounded the same as his so called mother from his fake memory implant.
Roy didn't have a fake memory implant... that was only Rachael, remember? But he definitely identified with the need to have a mother, being emotionally identical to humans, and yes, like a 4-year old child...
