Just FYI the there's nothing that requires the President to Salute, he's the C&C and a Civilian, nothing says Civilians have to salute, if he wanted to give a high five that's the Presidents prerogative, no one's going to say anything, and it's the President choice. In fact if you read, the custom was only started by President Reagan, yes that's right, not too far back, before Reagan, Presidents usually didn't salute.

A salute is an earned right. Civilians should not be saluting troops, living or dead. A civilian salute is placing your hand over your heart. Obama shouldn't be saluting the troops, whether he is C&C or not...he is still a civilian with no military experience.

it was the presidents choice to sulute as a sign of respect. also sometimes when deplaning air force one the president doesn't solute. I also saw preidents kennedy and johnson walk of air force one and no solute to the air force officers. basicly it realy doesn't matter. They probably just said it because presidents do it so many times and if he didn't solute i don't think they would have made a big deal
