so your watching taco bell commercial and thinking how taco bell used to be better....... then the news "preview" and your reminded how some things never change!
what blatant false advertising.the food you get never looks like the picture and its almost always cold and they barely put any meat or toppings on.it pisses me off that nowadays you cant get descent made food at a good price.
@MegaCriswell Thats so true! I was laughing my ass off watching this. The taco's actually had some cheese on them! Not in real life they don't! Taco Bell isn't fit to be dog food these days!
I seem to remember their tacos used to actually have stuff inside them like that. Now it's a small smear of brown meat paste and a couple token shreds of cheese colored something.
In 1979, most people here in Maine had never heard of Taco Bell. The first Taco Bells started opening here in around 1994. They're still somewhat rare, and are always combined with KFC's.
Yeah, take a look closely at the FOOD people! Remember how Taco Bell had black olives and green onions on the menu item? Well no more!!! Definitely does not taste as good anymore. The nachos belgrande and mexican pizza suffered from the removal of these two ingredients. Not only that, but the chips taste worse ever since they changed frying oils, and the sour cream is bland....Food gets worse tasting, portions are smaller, and prices go up!
@parkesc21 I remember it was brick with a tile roof. But the important thing here is the food. Like Stephen27 said...The portions were larger too! The bean burritos were FULL. They even changed how they wrap them CLAIMING they no longer use one open end because the drive through people complained it would spill out. That is total BS! They changed the wrap style so they can use LESS fillings!
Until they make the food the way it used to be? I will never buy it again....
PROOF that you used to get your money's worth at TB! Did you see the SIZE of the food on that guy's tray?! He probably only had to pay $5 - 6 for it, too! (if even THAT much)
I went to a Taco Bell it was 90 degree weather outside on the drive thru line. It straight up smelled like raw sewage out there. But that line of cars in the drive thru was 10 to 12 cars back. and that food was O so goood. I love Taco Bell. That was Taco bell at the bottom of the mountain. Down in southwest United States of America.
Tap 5 to see the football player's weird grin at 0:17 - he looks WAAAAY too happy with his platter of food. I suspect he's planning to do something obscene to it...
The olive were removed because of a lawsuit by someone who said that they bit down on a olive seed or something to that effect. I love taco bell people in the southwest of the United States of America love Taco Bell or at least my friends. Ya got Pizza hut and ya got Taco bell. I'm the guy who likes Taco Bell. Pizza Hut don't like my type off hand. And I'm not Hispanic or Italian.
I didn't even know they had Taco Bell back then. I don't remember there even being Taco Bell around here (in the Dallas area) until the late 80's or early 90's, prior to that all I can remember are Taco Bueno chains on every corner.
@Secundas - If I could, I would pay you real money in exchange for the sheer amount of laughter your comment gave me. It just seems like the right thing to do.
I bet if people in 1979 were told that in the year twenty eleven people on a worldwide network would be watching their old commercials and commenting they would have thought it would never happen
I worked at Taco Bell as a night mgr from 79 to 80. All the food was made fresh back then. The beef and beans were made in house, the veggies fresh cut, etc.. The enchirito was a small flour tortilla filled with beans, beef, and fresh diced onions. It was then topped with sauce and black olives. I personally liked the green sauce on mine. I remember going to a convention years ago about the newest ad campaign. It was called "take a Taco Bell vacation" I don't see any of those ads on here though.
@DEF0963 Man, the food has changed sooooooooo much since even the 80's! They don't even put olives on anything anymore! And the food is NOT as good as it used to be.
Dunno about you, but I thought that beef looked fit only for school lunch tacos. Looked like Kibbles 'n Bits or something created out towards the back of a Taco Bell, ideally in private.
@DEF0963 I used to eat at Taco Bell from the 1970s to the early 1990s then something changed. The food tasted completely different as you mentioned because they no longer used fresh veggies or even 100% ground beef anymore. Taco Bell was sued fairly recently for using meat that is only 35% beef and the rest is filler. In fact the meat comes prepackaged ready to heat and serve! Just do a google search for taco bell meat filler and read a few articles and look at some images.
@MsCandypower1 i'm pretty sure it was a cross between a burrito and an enchilada, but i've never heard of it before so i guess they discontinued them some time in the 80s.
@magnahelix According to the Taco Bell website, there's still an enchirito on the menu (it was discontinued from 1993-1999). I've never seen it on the menu at any Taco Bell I've been to, though.
Gas rationing sucked you could only get gas on even or odd days depending on the last number on your lience plate then you waited in long lines at the gas stations...When there were tankers full of oil sitting out side San Francisco Bay that couldnt get in because the refinerys were FULL just the gas companys and government way to raise gas prices and it worked
@Carballoca I remember that too...what does it have to do with a Taco Bell commercial? 1979? Lots happened that year! Cheap Trick released Live at Budokan! Ummm, that doesn't have anything to do with the post though!
@SnowbirdFlock "The Fresh Food Place!" Wow! It's too bad because I used to love Taco Bell! Now it's just sloppy and cheap. For a fast food chain Del Taco kicks their butt! Funny at Del Taco... you can get a burrito with fries or a pretty good hamburger with chips and salsa. And they cook it right there! Convenient but no thanks, I'll make my own.
@magnahelix I guess you don't remember the 70s. Even/odd days by license plate number when you were allowed in front of the tow truck to get into the 1/4 mile long line to get gas (and no fill-ups)?
Hey listen up. If you're over 30 years old, do you remember when the taco shells used to be hard, not soggy like today's. And the refried beans and seasoned ground beef used to be fresh, not frozen.
