  • Do the Edifier speakers you have have a headphone output on them as some Logitech speakers do? I know you've said you have the Edifiers connected to your computer via the TOSlink/SPDIF connection, so when you want to use your headphones with the M-Audio Fast Track do you have a quick way to switch between the 2, or do you just use the sound option in your Control Panel to change over or just connect/disconnect the Fast Track?

  • @Lachlant1984 No headphone jack on the Edifiers would have been a nice feature since yeah they have their own DAC built in. It's super easy and quick to change between them in Windows 7 just right click on the speaker volume button in the bottom right and you can pick from all your playback and recording devices right there.

  • @MN12BIRD OK, I haven't really used Windows 7 much as I'm a Mac user now, but the ability to switch from different audio devices right from the desktop and system tray like that sounds very quick and convenient, using USB audio devices under Windows XP could sometimes be quite dicey if you remember doing that, it worked usually, but I find Mac OS to be a bit more robust at least when using my sister's Logitech speakers.

  • @Lachlant1984 Actually the setup works just fine in XP also except I have to go into the control panel and sound options to change between the the playback or recording devices but it's never been any issue switching. I often switch between listening to the realtek digital output on the Edifier speakers to the USB m-audio for headphones. You can also switch the playback device right in foobar when I'm listening to MP3s. But yeah it's definitely quicker and easier in W7.

  • Ear buds are horrible, they are awful for your ears. btw ,"MIGHT BE BORING!!!!!!!???????"

  • Ear buds are horrible, they are awful for your ears.

  • That dynamic microphone certainly sounds far better than the logitech headset thing sounded, the mic on your headset sounded pretty horrible to be honest. I've also used Logitech USB headsets in the past and the microphones on the ones I've had actually sounded OK, I guess it depends on what model you have.

  • Wow! Next investment should be a new keyboard.

  • @ROONTANG Do you know what a IBM model M is or what it's worth? They still sell them today for $70+ for NOS or ~$40 used and it's considered one of the best keyboards off all time. It's a fully mechanical keyboard like the Das Keyboards that sell for over $100 today. Some people like the metallic super clicky keys you get on these. It's loud and clunky but you know when you hit the key! It's super heavy duty hence it's from the late 80's but still works like new. I love the thing!

  • @MN12BIRD No mate, had no idea. At any rate I was just teasing, not being serious. :-) I used a crappy $30 MS keyboard for five years until it looked like a bomb had hit it, eventually went out and bought the exact same thing again, new! What ever floats your boat, I say!

  • Wich program do you use to record the guitar sounds from the m-audio

  • so if u got the M-Audio Fast Track.u can buy any type of headphones..

  • Have you tried the JVC Marshmallow earbuds? They are £10 - £15 in the UK and have a frequency response oHz to 23,000Hz, trust me the bass is outstanding and the treble is crystal clear. The mid range is good too :)

  • @mpc1209 I mean 8Hz to 23,000Hz :P lol

  • @mpc1209 I hate earbuds though. I won't use them.

  • @MN12BIRD Yeah, I suppose they're not for everyone :) There ones look good, I had some similar but they broke over time :(

  • Hi dude, ive just brought a sm48 for a m-audio fast track(the first one) and i cant seem to get the mic working, the xlr is plugged into the mic and into the m-audio interface but i cant record through cubase, what can i do ?

  • How do you plug the mic into the computer?

  • @ThatReporterKid it goes into the interface

  • How do you put the video and recording togeather ?

  • @JTXRAY I use Adobe Premiere so it's not too hard to put any audio you want with any video you want.

  • silverchairrrrr hhaha awesome

  • Comment removed

  • as it does to synchronize audio of guitar and video of webcam?

  • @dekobass1982 Not that I know how I had to line up the audio and video myself. But depending on the program you use your webcam on you could probably just pick the M-Audio box as the mic and it would work. I just recorded them separately and put em together and lined up and sound.

  • please answer ASAP!!.......can you record the mic and guitar at the same time or is this not that powerful to do that?

  • @LaPrincesaDeDios15 ya u can

  • Nice video mate....a little help needed...i am planning to buy a budget audio interface ...Does the M-Audio Fast Track work on Windows 7 /64 without any problem?? does it have a good preamp?? When i search online both M-Audio Fast Track & M-Audio Fast Track 2 looks the same except for the price... am not talking about pro.....?.. MANY THANKS : ) cheers

  • @josephkavalakat Some people just call this one the fast tracks 2 since there was an older non USB version I think. Yeah it works on W7 x64 just fine for me. I can't say much about the quality of the pre-amp I don't hook this up to an amp I just use it for headphones and a microphone. Should be better than onboard sound but that's about all I can say for sure.

  • @MN12BIRD Thank you..

  • @josephkavalakat The first one does not have phantom power mate ! It`s like 48v for powering certain types of mic`s bro !! Peace Ye`all !!

  • Hey dude, a hint on the popping issue. If you wanna cut out popping for cheap, put a sock over the mic. It pretty much cuts it all out for basically no effort.

  • how is the response time on the fast track?

    no delay?

  • You can just put a pop filter on the mic to stop the windy "p" and "sh" noises from distorting the sound.

  • Nice keyboard too, model M :)

  • I have this same M-Audio recording studio audio interface, but when I listenin to tracks on the software through the interface with the headphone jack plugged in I can only hear through my left ear (mono?) Got any ideas?

  • can you tune your elecrtic guitar with the fast track software? or does it have a tuner built in?

  • I've tried many headphones under 250$ ,and sony's Mdrv6 is the best o far,i even use it to monitor the recordings..i highly recommend it to any audiophile.

  • Hey MN12BIRD i recently switched to ubuntu linux and when it had W7 on it, it had HD sound drivers and now it has analog duplex sound but i dont hear any difference. what do u think?

  • @joshbot360 Hrm not sure. Probably just a different name for the same thing lol. I mean if it sounds fine I wouldn't worry about it.

  • @joshbot360: I'm new to the world of Linux, but does this M-Audio Fast Track work with Ubuntu right out of the box? Thanks!

  • Will that Pentium II play Crysis at 1920x1080 max dx10 with integrated graphics and 64MB RAM? lol

I never liked Sony car audio either, but they make some decent headphones. If you've ever heard the speakers in their laptops, they make the worst cell phones sound awesome.

  • Hey Jake.

You're talking a bit about the popping there and how it's reduced on that new Berringer that you picked up. If you really want to negate that as much as possible pick up a pop screen. They're not that expensive. You can also probably build one out of a coat hanger and some pantyhose if you feel so inclined.

  • what happened to your other keyboard?

  • bro need help!! i hv da same sound card as urs.. everytime i connect my guitar da signal is too low cant hear nething unless i increase da gain very up.bt still da sound is low.do u noe wats da prob actually?

  • @Roshawon Wouldn't have a clue I just got it and only used it once for guitar and it worked fine.

  • Comment removed

  • @Roshawon hey i have the same problem as but with the fast track pro!! did u figure out the problem?

  • wat sony is awesome

  • @gunfart Trust me man Sony X'plode car audio is shit and most of their home audio is just okay at best. I'm sure some of the high end stuff is good but I'm just saying in general. Yeah TV's, Playstation brand, camcorders and bluray players I'm sure are good. But they've never been the best in audio in the last few decades. Old school Sony car audio ES Mobile (pre x'plode) was better.

  • Awesome video Jake.

Do you know if the headphone jack on my speakers would work if I plugged them in to my computer with an optical audio cable? Was wondering because it would then be digital but I don't know if the headphone jack will then also be digital.

  • lol Pentium II

  • hahaha love the keyboard, i got one of those hooked up to my old Win98/Dos machine. been thinkin about getting a set of those sony headphones but didnt know for sure if they would be worth the money. I'm not a big fan of sony either, but i may have to look into getting a set now as my headset is starting to short out after only 6-8 mos :( logitech ftl.

  • Did I hear you playing Tomorrow by Silverchair on your guitar? I really love the idea behind the M Audio Fast Track, M Audio are generally pretty good from what I've heard. I'm assuming your motherboard has the standard Realtek onboard audio, that's what I use on my computer, it's OK for what it is, but really if you're into serious music, movies or games, it's just not good enough. I asume the fast Track is also Macintosh compatable.

  • Hey buddy, I dropped $120 on my Audio Technica ATH-A700s, really love them. After being discontinued, you could find them for about $100, maybe you still can. Hope you enjoy the Sony's, you're right though, I've never put "speakers" and "Sony" in the same thought.

  • lol im def lmao so uhh thanks for showing headphones lol not 100% def but 20$ so i cant hear as good ur da best

  • I am going to get some of those headphones, are they comfortable?

  • @MrBeefTip I find them comfortable but I guess I don't have much to compare them too and everyone is different so it's hard to say if you'll find them comfortable.

  • If you like those you should really try the MDR-v700 headphones from sony, I got mine for around 100 bucks on ebay and they are basically the defacto standard for DJ headphones.

  • @Blairw85 Yeah I heard those are great too.

  • LOL Im watching this vid wearing v6's. The only heaphones I'll ever need- awesome.

  • @jedw Hell yeah!

  • May i reccomend JVC marshmallow headphones :D They are awesome :D

  • lol Pentium II

  • Haha the color of those headphones remind me of a Genesis 1

  • My speakers are Creative Gigaworks T20, again great sound but the left speaker doesn't work any more. I think it's a problem with the built-in amp in the right speaker since the left speaker seems to work standalone when plugged into an audio source.

  • @shaurz That sucks those speakers are nice too. My buddy has the bigger ones I think they are T40's and they are awesome.

  • @MN12BIRD I plugged the left speaker today and now it works! Weird.

  • I have AKG K240, they sound excellent but I had to get a replacement cable after a year because they stopped working (good job that it can easily be disconnected and replaced), and then they stopped working again, I had to take them apart and fix a broken connection. So I think the build quality sucks.

  • And games consoles, Sony also make good games consoles.

I recently picked uo a Turtle Brach PX21 headset for my PS3 since it doubles as a great pair of headphones and also has a mic on it. excleelent set if i do say so myself.

  • when i borrow my dads Bose headset, i always cry at the performance of teh things when i watch a few movies, so clear and crisp, when i had a pair of Sony headsets, i found the ear buds are pretty sharp sounding

  • Hey, also if you get a windscreen and put it between your mouth and the mic it will probably get rid of the popping.

  • That's pretty sweet. I do the same thing as you and use my PreSonus Firestudio Project interface as my soundcard for my computer. Ya the condenser mics use the phantom power. Dynamic mics pick up sound from only one direction, and condenser mics pick up sound from all around so they need more power.

  • I agree with you about Sony's audio. But I don't care for those headphones of yours. I used to have a pair and I found them uncomfortable. But then again, they were an older version so they could be much better now all around. The only headphones I'm interested in right now are surround headphones. I want to be able to listen to my Blu-rays and what not with headphones but still get the awesome surround sound. The pair I'm looking at is around $200. But I feel they are worth it.

  • Woah, I actually have one of those keyboards. They make the weirdest noise then you type on them. I don't actually use mine though. Just kind of cool to see it in the video.

  • Haha... I need some of that stuff. I am using some Airplane headphones (WestJet!)

  • I love the name MN12BIRD

  • I can't live without listening on music, my dad got me iQuake spekers to my birthday two weeks ago, they're amazing.

    However, great video. ^^

  • is that a IBM model m keyboard?

  • @lordmat666 Yeah sure is.

  • yo, i had a fast track, but the latency was barbaric (for guitar)

  • Audio setups are the best.

  • Sony V-6 headphones ftw.

  • i dont know whats up with headphones but they always seem to have one side go out after about a year, i bought a 100$ pair of sennheisers, i thought they would last a while, that might not be alot of money to some ppl for headphones but it was for too me, anyways those too had one side go out, so now i just buy 20 dollar headphones and accept they last about a year, that said i do think the sennheisers sounded great but then again im not an audiophile i just use them for pc gaming, some music

  • You've got some nice taste in quality, affordable hardware. These items may not be the "best" or most expensive, but they're absolutely great for what you get for the money. Even the Model M keyboard! Looks to be anyways. Buckling springs, mmm.

  • @phreakindee Yep that's my IBM Model M keyboard. 22 years old and it still works like new! Probably will in another 22 years after a Nuclear blast destroys everything else too!

  • The Sony MDR-V6's are fantastic. They have a flat frequency response, and they are very durable (for the most part). I would recommend them to anyone. You can also discover mixing flaws in albums (and it will make low bitrate MP3's sound like crap, so switch to lossless). I've had my pair for almost two years and it's still going strong. Amazon has it for around $65-70.

  • I have a logitech G35 and I love it.

  • KMPlayer / Daum Potplayer have the top notch audio quality!

  • @HybridPineapple Oh yeah? Not familiar with those ones. I use Foobar2000 and I'm happy. It plays flak out of the box and the sound quality I thought was better than winamp (witch I used prior)

  • @MN12BIRD Yeah, Winamp is pretty good,

Foobar2000 is great, becuase it allows you to use remotes, but they audio quality is horrible.

  • @HybridPineapple Really? My and my Buddy both did a side by side comparison of Winamp and Foobar on his M-Audio 192 and M-Audio AV40's and we both agreed Foobar sounded better! It also used less CPU resources (on his old single core) and I noticed here on my 2.1's sub that the bass was clearer on Foobar. It was more distorted at the same volume level in Winamp. Could it depend on your hardware or type of music? I dunno man. We both thought Foobar sounded better but it was close.

  • @MN12BIRD I'm trying FooBar right now, comparing it with Potplayer, and it just sounds distorted, I don't know how to explain it.

  • @MN12BIRD there should be no difference between audio quality of software players. Anything you hear is probably mental bias, or maybe you're applying some kind of plugin/filter in software and not realizing it. This would be like saying some colored CDRs sound better than others, or Seagate hard disks sound better than Western Digital disks (there are people who believe this).

That said, foobar2000 is awesome. :)

  • @MN12BIRD I will also recommend that people turn on Crossfeed in the foobar options. It will make a big difference when you're using headphones.

  • cool man, my band just got a tascam us144 usb interface to record with, you can hear some of our stuff at reverbnation[dot]com/themachineage, obviously we're not recording technicians by any means but for what we know how to do the recordings came out nice. BTW what kind of guitar is that?

  • @SMAAAASHTV Yeah You're stuff sounds pretty good considering! It's just a cheap Squire Bullet. I paid like $40 for it lol.

  • @MN12BIRD that's cool man....my first guitar was a no name les paul copy that my older brother bought for $25, it was a piece of garbage made out of like ply-wood laminate and only 1 pickup worked. Now I have a couple fender strats, a schecter omen 6 deluxe and a sort of rare american made "Squire" that I got free while working at guitar center a few years back.

  • wow, they made a new version of the fast track (or is that the pro version) ... I have the original fast track... and it is a piece of garbage.

  • @MrDebauch There are a few versions this is the 2nd gen USB version I think. It's not the pro version though just the basic one. The pro one has more inputs on it.

  • @MN12BIRD yeah i could have swore the pro version had two channel (potentially stereo) inputs... the original non pro fast track was not very good at all.

now I am running a motu ultralite, which is not too bad. it sounds good, but I have some gripes with it as well.

  • almost every studio around has those sony headphones, (i have a pair MDR 7506), you need a set of yamaha ns-10's and a sure sm-57 , green day to silverchair,? , and did pro-tools come with that M-audio.

  • @TheDVDGamer Cool. The Shure sm-57 is a great mic for sure! One of the most popular mics in the world I bet! But for me and just talking for the voiceovers the $20 job will do lol! Yeah it came with Pro-tools but I have no idea how to use it. Yet anyway who knows.

  • Awesome! I have an older fast track. I use it for recording music with my mixers and all that. I also got a pair of m-audio monitors . I forgot the kind but there not bad.

  • Sony headphones always sound like mud to me. My $20 JVC Flats sound better than a pair of $50 Sony's.

My main Cans are Seinheiser 555HD, and they rock.

  • @ChazISaCrueHead Hey I don't know about all the other models they have but have You ever listened to the Sony V6 or 7506? I'm telling ya they sound pretty good. Well I guess everyone has different hearing but I did listen to a lot of "cans" before I bought these and they really did impress me. Like I said they've had this model for over 20 years now so there's a reason for that right?

  • Ears are all different and so is the opinion on what sound should sound like. I have a few pairs of portable Sony headphones that are good. For home use I stick with a studio headphone. Audio-Technica ATH-M30 are very low price and pretty high quality. Not as good as my monitors but pretty close. You really don't need to spend over $100 for great headphones.

Suggestion: Get a pop filter for the mic. I bought a really cheap nylon one and it makes a huge difference on the sound quality.

  • @prot8to Yeah all great points and I've actually been thinking of getting a pop filter since they're so cheap and would help.

  • Yeah I have a pair of those my mom plays piano, and she loves them.

  • Wow this is what I need. Thanks for sharing.

  • Was that a Silverchair riff? Nevermind... I recognized both of them. That was off their first album, the best one IMO. Good stuff. I've been looking at stuff like that for a while, but couldn't justify the price for any of it, because i'm a cheap ass. I really would like to get into it, but I don't think i'm an audiophile so it might be wasted on me. It always is surprising just how different the good stuff is though. Night and day.

  • @youtubasoarus Hehehe yeah it was Silverchair! That was one of the first songs I learned on Guitar when I was in H.S. I don't play Guitar much or haven't since then. So most of the songs I do remember are from that time!

  • @MN12BIRD -- Awesome stuff man. I've had an acoustic for years and I haven't learned to play shit. I'm just too lazy. I used to listen to Silverchair back in H.S. too. They were a great band back then, not sure about their new stuff though. That electric sounded pretty damn good through the M-Audio USB thing.

  • What are you using that Pentium II CPU for?

  • @theelfkilla Paperweight? LOL that's about all it's good for now.

  • Sony sucks. They always have. Yeah, sure they are the first to put something out, but it takes Panasonic or others to perfect it.

...and that's why I have trouble supporting PS-anythings.

  • @SnapCraft316 Generally I would agree with you! But like I said these surprised me and sounded great for the price range.

  • Min why is your audio so off ? by the way I really like your videos, and i was wondering if you also like the Next Gen consoles to? Ps3, Xbox360 Etc. Please Reply

  • @TheOverkill102 That seems to happen now and then. It happens when Premiere re-encodes the video from the Flip to Flash video for Youtube I think. I have nothing against the current gen but don't think I would play enough new games to warrant buying one (and the HDTV to go with it!) but when GT5 comes out I'll be tempted to get a PS3 and just hook it up HDMI to my 24" monitor.

  • @MN12BIRD Thank for the reply first of all (surprisingly not may people reply so thank you). And as for GT5 I know what you mean that game looks amazing (I do own a PS3 and a 22" 1080p HD TV small but it works) and I think I should might get it(Was GT prologue as bad as people said it was?). And as for the audio I see now. (Hmmm may be i should put this in a letter)

P.S. Ever heard of burnout Paradise Or just burnout in general you could get that for PC.(Or PS3 if you get one)

  • @TheOverkill102 Oh yeah I played the Burnout games on PS2 one of the later ones on there was pretty crazy and the graphics were insane for a PS2 game.

  • @MN12BIRD Yeah, PCs are superior to consoles. The graphics are usually better, and the controls are just up to the user. For shooters, I prefer a mouse and keyboard; but a controller is still good for games like Sonic on the Genesis.

I have something similar to the M-Audio on my '96 Quantex! Great computer, especially for DOS games.

GT5+PC= hellz yeah but we never get :(

    GT5+PS3= putting $450 in the toilet :P

  • Hey Man, Ive got a pretty sweet cam, but the audios really quiet. any suggestions?

  • @TreasureChestReviews Does it have an aux mic input? If not there's probably not much You can do other than talk loud and always into the mics direction and then You can try and boost the volume in editing. But you'll boost the noise too.

  • @TreasureChestReviews

If you're into soldering, you might be able to desolder the internal mic and fashion an external mic of some sort.

Or you could just run an external mic on another device and dual record and redub, but it's a pain to resync.

  • sennheisers are ftw!

  • @Leoooonard Overall yeah Sennheisers are awesome and they have lots of high end ($200 and over) headphones. But I'll still take these in the $100 or less range!

  • your a great guitarist man

  • i still have those sonys but the material is peeling lol

  • @adidas1984x Yeah I think they sell replacement padding's for them. Not sure were you would get them though.

  • i have those sony headphones and i dont think much of them

how can you like those over senheiser and creative!?

  • @crammage Senheiser's in the same price range? These headphones are my favorite under or around $100 and I'm sticking with that. Creative ep-830's might sound good but I don't like in the ear headphones. They're never comfortable for me I like ones like this that cup around your ear.

  • i got bose qc15 they are awesome but they are $300

  • sony makes great walkman mp3 players

    and playstation 3 and tvs

but the stereos arent great if you cant get for almost nothing just skip 'em

  • @crammage LOL yeah You're right Sony MP3 players, Bluray players, Playstation, TV and Camcorders are all usually really good. Just their home audio and car audio isn't the best by a long shot!

  • koss sucks butt!!!!

get jvc air cushion ,or creative ep-830

  • @crammage Overall KOSS is all complete crap but they actually make some decent headphones. Only some of them but trust me some of them are actually good.

  • Sony also makes some good systems

  • @TheSuperNintendo Well yeah that's true.

  • I've been using the MDR-V700s for 2 years now. Best headphones I've used so far. Amazing bass. You should listen to Trust by Prince. I love that song on my headphones :)

  • @metallimaniac Cool I'll try and remember that song and check it out sometime. I'm just loving listening to these right now and the M-Audio box really helps the sound off the computer with them. Everything just sounds so clear and full of bass!

  • This is right up my alley recently.

The V6/7506 are the standard for recording studios. You made a good choice. ;D

  • @vearheart42 Cool my buddy told me about the 7506's too but yeah I'm so lovin' these things right now! Everything I listen to on them with the M-Audio box is sounding so damn good!

  • @MN12BIRD I figured he might say something about the 7506's, they are so famous. For headphones Sony is one of the best, I know you said you didn't like them for car audio but on personal headphones they have some super hi fi stuff.

I'm surprised your friend didn't have Audio Technica's or Denons.

  • @vearheart42 He has Audio Technica's, not sure about Denon. Like I said he litterally has like 30 pairs of headphones lol.

  • 2nd
