Great car; it can be seen frequently at the Nürburgring. I saw it there in 2005, during the Modena Motorsport Track Days.

Never hear of Toyota. The McLaren-Mercedes F1 co-operation began back then, there is something about this. But your Toyota fairytale is complete bullshit. You never use a F1 engine for endurance and Toyota was far from F1 back in the mid-90ies. They just cancelled their TS020 Le Mans operation and did some Rallye and Japanese GT

And the engine was used again the V12 LMR and believe me - it was faster as it was a Prototype and not a GT1

Actually, BMw was in the developmental stages of the S70/2 motor for an M8 series car, but they scrapped the design, and when they were approached by McLaren, they offered them using the motor. When McLaren go it, it weighed 100lbs. heavier, but gained 100hp. This motor is not found in any other BMW. As for the driver sitting central, that has nothign to do with the areodynamics, just better handling. The McLaren is the greatest supercar of all time in my mind

Actually F1 engines have been used in endurance racing on numerous occasions. the Ferrari 312PB used their F1 engine, and won all but 1 race in 1972 because they feared the engine would not last, so the withdrew. the next year they entered 1 car, adn finished 4th. Also the Cosworth DFV, and also Peugeot's 905 used the Renualt's 3.5 litre F1 motor. you fail. you can used an F1 motor, but you have to detune it to make it last.

Lawrence Stroll owns GTR #23R that is nearly identical to this one, but has white mirrors and the race number '9' on the doors.

The BMW Mobile Tradition Museum in Germany has a third nearly identical F1 GTR - chassis #26R, again with red mirrors, but it wears race #42 from the 1997 24Hrs of LeMans.
