  • I live in Scotland and my dad works at John Lewis heehehe

  • 2:28 You've been doing what for four days?!

  • My mate Carl @ 1:18 - way to go Carl - keep up the good work (and Coronation Street) Love Mrs Mudd (H&B)

  • the song makes me cry. (in a positive way) the advert makes me smile.

    <3

  • makes you feel good til you see how they treat the poor dog at the end of the advert.. seriously... who in their right mind would leave a much loved pet outside in the cold and snow without even a blanket or a door on the kennel?

  • @DobesnMinPins They change the end after there was a load of complains about the dog, it now ends with a man getting off a bus and putting a soft toy under his coat to protect it from the snow

  • @DobesnMinPins IT WAS FILMED IN JULY YOU IDIOT

  • i thought she said ''we've been shitting'' at 2:30 and even more at 2:32!

  • you guys could have waiting for another couple of days and you could have got all fresh real snow :) joke apart I think its the best Christmas advert for this year.

  • @ramakantjy hasn't the john lewis christmas tv adverts been the best in the last 3 years?

  • wow, this actually made me tingle its so cute, I love the little boy who yawns he is sooooooooo cute !!!!!!!!! :))

  • anyone know who made this "Making of"

  • I love how much effort John Lewis put into their advertising, and you can always see it in the final product :)

  • This is the best advert i have seen in a long time, apart from the other john lewis advert where it shows the life of the women!

  • OMG! ive been there fron 0:51 - 1:08

no, seriously - thats the edge of grizedale forest in the lake district - god that brings back memories.

  • this songs

  • After 4 + years of You Tube .This is first time I have logged in to like something. Great job John Lewis team. How wonderful I feel now you are in the world .........................

  • Does anyone really need more things buying for them? It's no wonder that the charity shops are crammed full of unwanted junk after Christmas. Don't be convinced by these syrupy adds. They are psychologically designed in their perfect John Lewis christmas to slush you into debt. Just say no.

  • *shrug* They changed the ad about a week ago - so game over.

"During the process of editing shorter ads (which continues once the initial 60-second ad has aired), we will always choose the scenes which work best and we have used this opportunity, after listening to our customers, to include other scenes that we shot but haven't yet used. "

Bit late to the party xxMaddy1321xx

  • @HairyFloyd Ur an idiot, nuff said.

  • Hairyfloyd, there are more important things in life to worry about than a portrayal of a cold dog. What about the millions of starving people on this planet, if you see the portrayal if a hungry person in a mcdonalds advert, do you flame their ad's on youtube as well? Get a fucking life you fucking pathetic idiot.

  • I think they cut the bit where the dog was frozen solid the next morning.

  • This is a beautiful advert and song and as a child my Christmas wasnt always great but

its the season of peace and goodwill so make up and use your time on positive thoughts if you dont think its good for the animals (dont bleat on about it lol) give some money to the rspca and if you ve had a good upbringing dont cry about it give some to the rspcc

I wish both of you a very merry christmas and love and peace for 2011

  • you guys should put as much energy into giving as arguing

  • @GazzerHST Respect x

  • I love the way they put so much detail into it to make it look perfect - like covering absolutely everything in snow. What library is that? It's beautiful - I have such a nice little image of students studying on christmas eve :)

  •

  • @MrShaneie1 Have a look at "Thermoregulation" on Wikipedia - it only works for a few hours of exposure ;-)

Oh, and your spelling is just a symptom of the underlying ignorance whereby you get everything wrong.

    lolz

Anyways, I shouldn't be feeding the troll. Xxx

  • @HairyFloyd sorry man. you are so wrong, and all your left with is an attack on spellings, you have lost. your wrong about regulating body temp, and the dog in question is well able for fake snow,,seriously admit when your wrong.

As i said take a good long look at your background & then when your on the streets open your eyes and look at the HOMELESS.I'M HAPPY YOU MENTIONED YOU HAVE HAD A GREAT UP BRINGING. but lets not forget these are props. AND the homeless are on the streets thats real.

  • @HairyFloyd And the weather is soooo real when your on the streets, so screw you bitching on about a x-mas ad when there is much more to open your eyes to yet mate... blind man u are. tunnel vision

  • @HairyFloyd your now just clutching at straws with spellings.Taught you might be an understanding human, but your really not at all ! You Cant see past your noes at the fact that the dog in the ad is fine and able to handle the fake snow thats produced in order to make this very good advert...

please with your so called great up bringing that you yourself mentioned look around you at the people living on the streets, AND thats real weather.. OPEN YOUR EYES, and go on attack my spellings again.

  • Before humans domesticated dogs they ran in packs and relied upon each other for survival. Now they rely on their owners. Have a google for hypothermia and frostbite in dogs -*shrug* that kennel looks like it could be pretty draughty to me?

Thanks MrRizlafan, MrShaneie1 is a troll - if he's not fed, he'll go away.

  • @HairyFloyd seriously the dog is fine. Don't wanna be nasty but you should rant on about the homeless living on the street in -10 weather,, and don't bother trying to get at me by spelling errors, thats just clutching at straw's

  • every one of ye' Should stab yourself's in your face

  • Where's the bit where you kill that dog? Bet it was a right laugh. Bloody hate dogs me.

  • Shame you put so much work into the ad.... and then completely ruined it and your reputation with that awful ending where you portray to leave the dog outside in the cold in a drafty old kennel whilst all its human family were inside in the warm! John Lewis should be ashamed of themselves not taking that advert off TV after so many objections to it that it's even been discussed in the media!

  • @wiccanmaid What did dogs do before humans domesticated them? Admittedly, some breeds (created by humans) would not survive out in the cold, but even so it isn't cruelty or neglect keeping a hardy dog outside! And lighten up, it's an advert...

  • +1 for hairyfloyd

MrShaneie couldn't argue his way out of a paper bag

Hope he doesn't have any pets

  • @TheMrsbiscuits Honestly are you for real..

  • @TheMrsbiscuits and i do have a dog, its cold in ireland, But your missing the point its common for dogs cats cows ect to be outside, Because if you had studied this HairyFloyd, then you would already know that they all can regulate there body temp.... but with your bs in zoo-ology.. you already know this. dumb ass..... why don't you go on a site where people rant at people living on the street... its fecking something you might be good at. Maybe.. thats of course with your privlaged background

  • I'm with HairyFloyd!

    MrShaneie1 sounds like a twat

    and a troll

  • @MrRizlafan WELL YOUR STUPID TOO.. BUT YOU KNEW THIS ALREADY.

  • @MrRizlafan i.d say your on the smack you junkie

  • Oh dear, diddums is getting cross?

Could you type that again with the help of a grownup?- it is a bit difficult to understand due to the poor spelling and incorrect punctuation.

btw - we all know the shoot was done in the middle of summer (hint - it says so in the video ;-)) The issue is the portrayal of neglect NOT actual neglect. You know what you are talking about? Really?? Give a dog or cat the choice of a warm bed as opposed to a night out in the snow - I think you "might" learn something.

  • Apologies to MrShaneie1 - there is no excuse for teasing a dumb animal. We should have pity on him and hope he gets better soon. x x x

  • @HairyFloyd YOUR STILL CARRYING ON THIS ARE YOU... CAN ANYBODY WHO'S READING HAIRYFLOYD COMMENTS ON ALL OF THESE PAGES AGREE WITH HIM OR DISAGREE WITH HIM ???? PLEASE BECAUSE HE THINKS THAT ALL HIS COMMENTS ARE CORRECT.. DOGS AND CATS AND ALL THE REST DONT MIND BEING OUTSIDE, ALSO HAIRYFLOYD. I;LL SAY IT AGAIN. THIS ADVERT WAS MADE IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER. THE PROPS ARE NOT REAL. UNLIKE YOU I KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT......... LET'S LET THE PEOPLE VOTE WHO RIGHT R WRONG

  • @MrShaneie1 u r wrong

  • @MrShaneie1- Post your email address and i'll gladly send you a copy of the certificate :-)

A word from the wise - you really don't seem smart enough to start a flame war with me. Your use of profanities in absence of a valid point really does put you in a very poor light.

    Oh, and that's HONOURS btw

    lol

  • You've been shitting for 4 days? You've been shitting from 10 o'clock in the morning till 3 o'clock the next morning? I think you might need to go to see a doctor ;) ;)

  • @MrShaneie1 - I am indeed educated in such matters, BScZoo Hons. You too should check your facts before ripping into people.

Sorry bud, I have a privileged background and no problems with Christmas. As such, I do my best to share that with others and put an end to suffering where I can.

"stab yourself in the face" ??? Ah, we have found your level. Real nice!

  • @HairyFloyd you drove me to it with your stupid comments i had to take a time out to read.. can you give me that time back... i think not... BScZoo honers....... THAT BULLSHIT.... STOP YOUR LIE'S AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE SHIT FALLING FROM YOUR MOUTH...

  • everybody can watch the making of this and see its all props... Really your an ass!!! Cats & dogs& cows, ect, can regulate there body temp to suite there conditions also. Even tho you make yourself sound educated about this. i hope you don't mind if i put it down in words but your an ass, Really

    yours fatefully

    Mr shaneie1

  • Great!!!!! now all kids who see this advert know there's no Santa Claus! It's just their parents who were hiding the gifts every year...thank you JL!!! :P

  • Sooo, John Lewis condones leaving dogs outside in the snow - real nice message there! - coulda been a better ad with the dog on a rug in front of the fire. . . but no

    Customers,

why not spend your money somewhere else and give a little to the animal shelters that are stretched to bursting at this time of year???

  • @HairyFloyd your a complete fool. your just looking for to rip on this advert on every web page there is about this x.mas ad....... QUIT it and do us all a favor and stab yourself in the face... must have some x.mas problems as a kid. everybody will agree if there following your comments..

  • @HairyFloyd I really like the idea of giving to animal shelters at Christmas, but there's nothing wrong with keeping dogs outside, so long as their breed is not an 'indoor' breed, they have some shelter etc.

  • do you really think the guys who create these adverts are stupid enough to forget about the dog is outside or that it's giving out the wrong impression? This ad is going to get millions of views, every single bit of detail would have been considered, so stop moaning ffs!

  • Wow.

    poor dog.

  • yawn

  • Beautiful advert

  • Such a damn shame that they ruined a great ad with such a crappy ending. Totally appalled at the depiction of a dog left in those conditions. Ad people - complete idiots in this case.

  • such an amazing ad, definitely in my top 10 list with the coca-cola ad!!

  • i love this!!

  • Although we accept the dog is from an agency and the snow might not be real , this advert is giving out the wrong message that it is acceptable to keep dogs outside in cold weather. Dogs die of hypothermia. This advert has not been thought out properly.John Lewis pre Christmas performance is subdued according to their figures.

  • @pinkydibs oh god, I saw a dog outdoors on a TV ad. Why the hell have I been keeping my dog inside all this time, I'm going to go out and buy a kennel, wait for it too snow and put my dog in it.

  • Totally agree. Dog in kennel in snow is giving out totally the wrong message. Why didn't that boy take it indoors and give it a present. Not good!

  • Nice Ad!! Well done JL! But why did you cover one of the streets in snow? I could not see that scene on the advert?

  • Well my daughter is the candle stick. So proud xxx

  • My wee girl is the one on the couch. I'm so proud of her, she was such a good girl when she was filming.

  • @fuktiger awwwwww

tell her from the future leader of the cinema advertising industry that i am looking forward to seeing her on set at some of the sky adverts in twenty years time. i'm sure she will become a famous and much-loved icon of the big screen! :)

  • Doesn't it always snow in Edinburgh in summer?

  • @jimgellatly heh heh - pretty much :D Makes it even MORE gorgeous !

  • Look out for my daughter Lamaya in the car scene :) so proud of her x

  • @qustomqueen :Lamaya is so good .

@Lamaya :How wonderful I feel now you are in the world .

  • Not bad, but your sound mixing on this piece leaves a bit to be desired. Why not work the beautiful music through it? Amazingly convincing snow, well done
