By 1958, the Mills Brothers by the teenage audience was seen as "square", so they had to get on the doo-wop bandwagon as an attempt to say current. They did come back with "Cab Driver" in 1968 to reach a somewhat younger audience. This was a common practice by the "clean cuts" to cover black artists songs in the '50s.
YES!!!! That sure brought back memories. I grew up listening to these wonderful singers - they were a huge part of the background of our house and a big part of why i love tight, close harmonies so much. NO group these days can touch them - they were the pros, and deserved much more success than they every got. Thanks so much for posting this - it has just made my day a whole lot brighter.
I'm from that era, a group singer, but didn't know the Mills Bros did this Silhouettes hit. You'd think someone would post the Miracles followup to this tune, Got a Job, featuring a very young Smokey Robinson. You know it--"Walked one day 'til my feet got tired--I was sore, I couldn't get hired---saw a sign in a grocery store---help was slight...and we need some more---I got a job......"
It someone had told me they recorded this, I wouldn't have believed them. Hearing it and seeing the record convinces. I'm a huge fan, but wasn't wild about this one.
This song was covered by Los Frenéticos from Mexico in 1962. They did a more rock version of it, which also includes a guitar solo. Perhaps I'll upload it later so you can listen to it.
Whoa!!!!!!! This is the most amazing record I've ever heard!!! Is this THE Mills Bros, of Paper Moon and Society of Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Singin' in America...(long may it live) fame???
There vocals are of course TIGHT! Exquisite voices in any medium!
Is that banjo?
btw...I got to see the orig. Sils do this in Philly. It was an emotional experience! They were very elderly.
This is my favorite song well one of them anyway 0:)

boy this version is not really innovating, it really sound like tone death horses.

@redthunderhammer your review loses credibility for using 'death' in place of 'deaf'
