Let's face it. Colonialism is one of the worst things ever happened. It was Inhuman, barbarian, terribly greedy, absolutely unfair and so overbearingly arrogant.
In all parts of the world colonialism destroyed very old and good working structures of society and business. The world was in balance, so was the trade.
The Dutch were one of the worst colonialist. In 350 years they didn't really build up a lot in Indonesia. They were very poor developers. As a dutch, I would be ashamed!

They had the 'Nederlandse onderdaan niet Nederlanders' (in Dutch) that was not the same as a Dutch citizen, not having the same rights.You can't compare the West-Indiës with the East-Indiës, was a different colonial society.

I have scanned through these postings from the last year. It amazes me how misinformed and blinded by emotions these opinions are. This is a very interesting subject. What are the effects of centuries long domination of one people over the other. None of these postings have mentioned what colonialism has done to the colonials themselves. Some of the posters have expressed opinions they have heard from grand parents, whose visions might have been blurred by the years that have passed.

In 1945, they should have proposed a Confederation of Indonesian states. As Maluku (Moluk Islands), Borneo, Papua New Guinee ("Iryan Jaya"), Timor, Batavia etc. were all pro-Dutch, this state form would never have wanted to separate from the Netherlands. Even in 2010, Papuas want to return under Dutch rule. The Papuas like whites.
