@SanvivaTemdrum9 It's Jamie's ghost. At the time when Claire would be brushing her hair, Jamie would obviously be dead, but would have also met and married and loved Claire, even though *she* hasn't met him yet. If you can figure out the whole time travel thing, it kind of works.

I agree that no one will be "everybody's" ideal Jamie, but I think everyone (or nearly) could agree that he has to be at least 2 things (looks wise). #1 have reddish hair and #2 be very tall (preferably at least 6'4"). Those are the 2 features repeatedly stated throughout the books.

@fjellelv As far as the "reddish hair," I think hair dye gives us a lot of flexibility in that area. Otherwise, the choices - esp. in a specific age group - are overly limited.

You need to watch more of Emily's work than. Emily is far from any of those things. She is a amazingly talented actress who I think could best bring Claire to the screen. Most of the actresses I have seen are WAY to prissy to be Claire.

I have just finished reading Drums of Autumn, it was brilliant.

Being from Inverness, what i don't get however is the way she portrays Roger to speak.  Invernesians do not speak like that. We have a horrible, nasal, soft accent. I know reading what she writes, and what it's supposed to sound like are maybe 2 different things, but it has been bugging me.

Fair enough Jamie speaking like that, since he was from the 1700s, but Roger was from the 1900s.

The movie isn't out yet. :( but It IS in the works. The projected date is some time in 2011. Probably to coincide with her Graphic novel release. IDK just guessing but I do know her Graphic is due out that year as well. Her seventh book in the series,"Echo in The Bone"is on shelves as of today!

Is the Outlander movie you're referring to from the Diana Gabaldon books? The trailers I've seen for an Outlander film are for some other thing, about Vikings in the 700's...not Jamie and Claire....

I can't see Gerard Butler as Jamie at all... He doesn't even look like Jamie, since according to Diana Gabaldon he is supposed to resemble male supermodel Gabriel Aubrey (without the blond hair of course). Even if you look at Diana's official website, there's pictures of Jamie from the Outlander graphic novel --- and in there he STILL looks nothing like Gerard Butler. Maybe Gerry could play Dougal instead, no?

I agree. I would be very upset if Butler is cast as young Jamie, because after all he is suppose to be only 23! I like this actress though, I could see her as Claire.

Yes, they are making a movie, per DG's website. She says it's the same production company that did Braveheart and another ... (Pearl Harbor, I think?). Production is to begin in 2009. She has no say in characters, storyline, etc. They're only using her story.

It's hard for me to imagine any of them as the real thing. I think they should find someone nearly as tall as Jamie with his beautiful red hair. Without the hair it wouldn't make as much sense... I think Christian Bale would be a good Roger. But it is just so hard to pull them from your mind to real people because they are just so unique! :)

Laoghaire- Sophia Myles

You know, you're not the first person to say that.

I think Tim Roth would be a perfect choice because he's so versatile. To go from characters like Colin in Meantime, to Guildenstern in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, switch to such an evil character like Cunningman in Rob Roy and then Ted the Bellhop in Four Rooms is quite a feat. He could easily pull off polar opposites like Frank and Jonathan Randall.
