kid has good form, however, according to Hwang Kee's book, the last three moves are a hoo kool soo do joong dan mahk kee with the RIGHT foot forward, NOT the left. Then it's a hoo kool jase soo do joong dan mahk kee with the same right hand forward but the block is done to the 90 degrees RIGHT. Then it finishes with a hoo kool soo do joong dan mahk kee with the LEFT hand and foot forward. I'm not making this up. It's in the book.
@OmegaSupreme89 there's no such tang soo do form as pyung ahn san dan...it's either sa or sam, and yes, this is bassai, although the last several moves at the end are backwards with the wrong foot forward. If you read Hwang Kee's book, you'd know which forms are which. They're spelled out quite straight forward in english.
Bassai! I never done it myself, but I saw other people doing it! I'm only orange belt right now. That kid is impressive! I wish I could do that at such a young age...
Cool to watch, thanks for posting. I practice Northern Shoulin and Chen Tai Chi but enjoy watching any type of martial arts where it is evident that the practitioner has been practicing.
I have a question, I take Tang Soo Do which is a similar style to Tae Kwon Do. I mean no disrespect but Tae Kwon Do seems alot less conserned with stances than Tang Soo Do. Why is that?
Tae Kwon Do has an emphasis on competition, of which stances are a major judging factor. Where as Tang Soo Do (historically) isn't meant for competing in forms, so stances are important but based around concepts that are more concrete and directly related to combat. More specifically Hugul Jase which is the traditional fighting stance, has been modified (at least at my school) to a more upright stance when sparring, but retains it's traditional depth in form work.
I'm trying to figure out what I was writing about, we do Bassai in tang Soo Do I must have been in a convo re: something else - this form is clearly not tae kwon do. Hmmmm....
@Godwhofailed69 good observation, in fact Tang soo do preposes to train martial arts in a traditional way, taekwondo is a semplified union of various tang soo do kwans and is tought with less attention to tradition and more emphasis on sport fighting.
good job young one, while i do not believe that donvalentin's comparison was fair, i do believe that he did well. but i think u should learn the form better. plz dont misunderstand, i know u know the moves. but know the FORM. bassai is EXPLOSIVE!! but still calm as well. learn where and when to explode u'll do the form much better
sorprende q asi como existe la mezcla de razas tbn existe la mezcla en las artes marciales. es por eso que no existe un arte marcial puro. aqui se ve la influencia del karate japones en las artes coreanas. en karate eso se llama kata bassai dai.
this form is called Ba-sai, typically done slower to emphasize fluidity. I am a practicer of tang soo do and I know that I can't do tht form, not yet, but I also do know that it was done badly, compared to our grandmaster anyway. but he's good, i can tell that he'd be way better at sparrign though, he's fast and storng.
um... no. it's bassa dai, or bassai dae, not ba-sai. this form was done perfectally, yes one or two movies was different from ours, but this kids instructors dont have easy access to know when a form gets changed. he did this for very well,
