out of interest what the ACTUAL name of the tune they use for "around the peier" becuase a acapello group called "Coope Boyes and Simpson" use it in one thier CDs
@FinalFreek the tune is "Mademoiselle from Armentieres", an old song sung by the Tommies in the First World War based on an older French soldiers' song
They also use Oh I do Like to be Beside the Seaside, My Grandfather's Clock, and Titwillow (from Gilbert and Sullivan). I don't know the others (Funiculi, Funicula aside).
I don't think this is their funniest song, but it is by far my favourite. The tune is catchy, the lyrics are perfect, and they're both using their singing voices to their fullest potential.
Just fantastic. Pure talent. Forget about all those unfunny new comics on BBC/ITV who use obvious comments as "humour". The Ronnies' generation beats them all hands down.
The actual date that Ronnie Barker was 3 October 2005 and was aged 77 if that is any help to anyone. Ronnie Corbett you can find doing the voiceover for Ant & Dec's Push The Button on a Saturday on ITV1.
@napsuta indeed its a shame that he often wrote under a pseudonym so unless you are a fan its unlikely you will know that he wrote a lot of the stuff. Apparently he was always fond of tongue twisters-like the mispronunciation sketch
To us, these two were, are and always will be two of England's greatest heroes. They never won war medals. They never went to Vietnam and fought for the right to be free. But they brought joy to millions of people for decades and even after Ronnie Barker died we honour him every day with every laugh we have because every single giggle we give and get makes us happy and in the end... that's what these two devoted their lives to. Making the world just a little bit brighter.
"...look at big Betty who's fond of spaghetti, she's built like a jetty and married a peer..." I nearly spat my coffee all over the computer screen, genius!
No just strawberry, choc ice or vanilla!

Rest in peace Ronnie Barker. We'll miss you.

Can someone tell me the name of the song they're using here? I know it's an opera aria, and I'm going nuts trying to remember!
ladyenjolras 1 year ago
@ladyenjolras There's several, I know the one at the beginning and the end is Funiculi, funicular by Luigi Denza

I recognise that beach, but I don't think it's Brighton. Maybe it's Hove or Portsmouth?
Geshreeyeh 1 year ago
@Geshreeyeh Probably a combination of all 3, with a bit of Morecombe and Margate thrown in...very good for a studio set! ;oP

Such talent !
I never get bored watching The Two Ronnies.
For over a year now, I've been looking for 2 videos which seem to have been taken down.
1/ The Two Ronnies doing: "Tooting Carmen"
2/ The Two Ronnies: "A hunting we will go"
I HOPE SOME KIND PERSON UPLOADS THEM.
(Japan)
Cheers !

The Two Ronnies along with Flanders & Swann were the best at writing comedy songs

There are other good comic duos but none to match these 2 'The 'Two Ronnies'
Ron Barker (taller one) wrote a lot of material for the shows. He died last year and England lost some of its smile.
Thanks for posting this

@napsuta I'm pretty sure Ronnie B would have written this one. One of his hobbies was collecting saucy seaside postcards.
