I am surprised by it as well.Just goes to show good music regardless of the style(rock n roll,Jazz,Classical, Disco,Country Western,etc...) is timeless.... Mind you I never really cared for C&W or Disco..LOL!
I think it's a brilliant video. Audio is fantastic. For whatever sappy reasons I think Joe would have preferred the vid of a car being shot off of a Triumph, Norton, or BSA motorbike, but all things considered I absolutely love the presentation.
It's a hard song to capture, but God Damn, it's English as Hell.
The Most that argue it's a crumby video,do not really understand the message Joe and the Boys were trying to make.... They must be part of the Duran Duran crowd love fest....Wonder what impression their music ever made on the music world...
There are inaccuracies though in your attempt to transcript the lyrics. I could NEVER understand Joe in almost all of his singing. And I'm finding out now what the verses may actually be.
Tonight they're closing up the world N' sweeping smoke from cigarettes And what is that funk multi-national Anthem rocking from a thousand King Kong cassette decks Then a shyboy from Missouri Boots blown off in a '60s war Riding aluminium crutches Now he knows the welfare kindness n' Agent Orange color blindness As we works from door to door
The violence in the carpets The mirror of his wife Drives the slum-bum dweller To grind his hunting knife In homesteads of cigar box-radios Hive like bees The body in the ice Box has no date for freeeeeze In a car jam Selling is what selling sells But only saints of the 7 avenues can sell The hells Fanning the drug afflicted leperizing acne Once inisde the executive He never leaves his home
Gorillas drag their victiims Hyenas try to sue Snakes find grass in concrete There is no city zoo by Ventilation units where towers Meet the streets The ragged stand in bags Soaking heat up through their feet This was the donly kindness And it was accidental too Now shaking single engined planes Traffik-king stereos from Cuba Buzzed the holy zealot mass And drowned out Missa Luba I thought I saw Lauren Bacall
This is a great classic Clash song taken from the album "Combat Rock". From that album were publishied as hit single "Know Your Rights", "Rock The Casbah" and the double A side "Shold I Stay Or Should I Go" - "Straight To Hell". Well, I very like it and I've always thinked, about this song like a potential great hit single like the others. The Clash they didn't think so and Car Jamming was played only during the nights of the Combat Rock tour and after was forgotten...a little story of this song
Yeahhhhhhhh I haven't hard this in twenty yrs. + What a great song. I will be listening to it when I sit in jail next month cuz I dared to stand up to my crooked lying mayor Jerry Miller.

2nd favorite Clash song of all time. Most would argue it's a crumby video but I think the Clash would appreciate it.

Am I crazy to say this sounds speeded up?

@MultiLynnie it does. I think it's the format or something, idk. I play the combat rock vinylo all the time, it definately sounds a few rpms slower.
