Cosplay is an American hobby. It started at a sci-fi convention in America where people would dress as Star Trek characters. If anything, the Japanese are trying to be American.

@diligentsesame shot a quick time lapse (~500 frames), then I had miku pose in place afterward and took enough video to cover the time lapse video length. the rest is done by composing the two shots using masks in after effects :)
