  • Funk at it's best!

  • THE EPITOME OF FUNK. JAMES BROWN SAID THEY WERE THE SECOND FUNKIEST. I GUESS THE FIRST WAS HIS BAND.

  • classic!!!!

  • @ Morefactlessfiction7, Lady Bee (AKA Wendy Clark) is on WRNB. I am 45 and I can remember this version and The Black Heat verision. I also watched Brutus, Fat Larry's Band, and Breakwater @ Awbury Park battle to see who could do the better version in like 1975. Breakwater won. I always did and love this music.

  • @dtj1064- I remember Brutus and the other bands u mentioned...I was friends with Rabbit the rhythm guitar player....they were great in their day...also Fred White the lead singer.....those were the times....

  • Who did it originally? Kool and the Gang?

  • This is from "Music is the Message" album.

    Still funky though.

  • Correct! I've had this posting for several years and never paid any attention. Thanx for your astuteness and patronage of the funk!

  • Yo man thanks for putting this on youtube sounds as good as the first time i heard it

  • One of the all time funk classics and bboy 101

  • Hi all, Tell me if the new funk group Lettus doesn't channel these guys in a positive way!!! The funk lives on my Brothers!!

  • In 1970 I turned 15 years old. By then I had about 3 years experience playing tenor sax and was starting to play in amateur funk bands. Anything put out by K & The Gang was immediately copied by us. Sometimes we horn players had to slow the speed of the record down to cop the horn lines accurately. We had no trouble copying their on-stage, fun dance moves. As much as I tried, though, I never could cop Ronald Bell's altissimo high "A." I always played it an octave lower.

  • Dam 2:38 funky as hell dam funky horns and kick ass drums

  • My sister was part of the franchise gang back in 1980. In Philly, up near Broad and Olney,

they would dance off this song at a club near

this location, I forget the name, but these were the good days.Aswad would sponsor alot

of these shows. This is how we met Lady B,

    now part of Power 99.

  • From Philly was that club the wagner Ball Room

  • Rock and Roll Hall of Fame need t holla at these guys..serioussly..they pushed the envelope..James Brown even confirmed that..CLASSIC!

  • Na minha opnião,a melhor musica que ja existiu...

  • When I was on the westside I used to check out places like Cornacopia, Winnfield Ballroom, Olympia Ballroom, etc. Can't forget the Cozy Nook with Lady B and Bobby Dance!

  • Yo Wali, Sorry I couldn't holla earlier but i was wondering where a good party for oldheads could swing. I'm a grandpop but still on occassion like to cut a groove. I don't do bars and the club set is not my scene. So watup?

  • I did the military thing too and remember being out Cali and those girls loved us Philly cats for the way we dressed danced and most of all no jerry curl juices! Even the NYC boys had to stand up and take notes! They got hip hop but Philly got tha funk!

  • And you know this! Jeri Curls?? That was a L.A. thing, some Switch /Debarge bullshit. We didn't play that and knew that set was corny. The music they was playin was cool. Hip Hop was on the rise and NYC held it down and we cut the beat with remixes of Funkadelic and Schooly D that slayed. NYC boys was givin up the respect though Chi Town and DC was holdin' but they were country. My best friend was a dude from Hartford who had my back unlimited with much love and respect both ways.

  • From E-Man to Disco Rat, Capt. Boogie, Astro Barry to Sex Machine, B-Force, Grandmasters of Funk I'm down wit all that 4 real! Those were the days, house parties, block parties, discos bars, some people rode septa some people rode in cars!

  • It was a great time to be young and full of yourself. Chasin' girls and stayin' sharp was it. I've been all over the country from my military days and home cookin' was my twist. Philly flavor was it no matter what the lames from N.Y.C. was saying.

  • Yo LamontCJ! I was down with all that! From the Astro Disc, Wagner Ballroom, Hotel Phila. Foxtrap to Belmont Plato. Boy don't get me started. Oh yeah how bout those tailor mades like Palmeris and Sederios. Quiet as kept I still have my Palmeris!

  • Damnnnn! Don't get me started! From my way, we played the Jack Nicklaus Jackets with velour hats blocked to show where we was from. Ripple sole Easy Walkers and pleated tailor mades with, of course, tabs on the legs. We grooved at the Library, Kim Graves, and Mr. Silk's. These were the days when the strongest thing was weed and wine and a lame could still hold his hands if needed. It was all about chasing the ladies and the music echoed what we were doing. What a time!

  • We can't forget that another version of this was made by Blackheat that was hot on the party scene in Philly. We used to step off of this cut GQ style!

  • Yo,Yo! You definitely settin' it off with that blast from the past! "Your Love has Got Me Screamin" was the anthen at places like the "Lot" on 59th Market and other block parties all round' Philly. Do you remember E-Man? He was the king of block party DJ's, (At least in W Philly). His anthem jams were Jimmie Castor's "A Groove Will Make You Move" and Jimmie Bo' Horn's "Is It In" and Captain Sky's "Supersperm". Ass kickin jams while all the lames wore tailor made pants and Nik Nik shirts.

  • This is a great city song.

  • Ok, whatever that means but it's still a great cut from a great era from Kool and the Gang.

  • I mean when you're cruising in the city and listening to this mix. you dig?

  • Whenever i hear this, it make me think of a chase scene, like the beginning of superfly.

  • I dig it! Now that you said that, it does bring to mind a car chase through the streets of Harlem, Jim Brown behind the wheel, the mafia hit man corners him, so he's forced to get out and grab the guy and commence to beat the sh@#t out of him. Right On!

  • Hey St. Louis. This Smokey from the Young Blood Inc. band. Incredible! We bought this 8-Track in Summer '73 at a gas station while traveling to play at Chuck Berry's place in Wentzville. We actually used to play this song in the clubs. Weirder yet, we ended up openning for them in concert Sept. '73. Well... I produce Hip-Hop TV shows now. So, check out my latest product, "PhattCity" on ABC and YouTube.

  • Hmmm.. quite a story. I'm glad it brought something back for you.

  • Cant get enough of the real kool and the gang

  • Yeah, neither can I. Great period for music. Long Live 70's Funk!!

  • What surprises me is that so many people are just "discovering" pre "Ladies Night" K&G (present company excluded) but they funked it up for many years before 79' and "JT". I've always dug them.

  • this is one of my K&G early 70's faves!! when they were funky!!
