I agree with you. I think he has to do that when talking to politicians though, since he's used to them bullshitting answers. I like that he was trying to prevent Paul from dodging questions, which he did try to do a couple times. He was nailed on the Reagan brochure question; thankfully Russert mercifully changed the subject.

kind of. it seemed to me like he was only saying that people should be apprehensive of politicians using religion in their campaigns, because religious pressure is very fertile ground for manipulating public opinion. plus, the comment was on fox news, so you know they'll be using it against him.

Yeah, true. I agree in retrospect that's probably what Paul meant, but my initial reaction upon seeing Paul make that statement was he was indirectly calling Huckabee a fascist.

Russert brings up the issues, but these interruptions before things are fully explained are more attempts to undermine logic and keep Paul looking bad--whenever Paul fully explains himself it shows how consistent and logical his positions are, so they cut him off instead. The whole tone of the interview is not to find out information but to discredit Paul, but that's the very reason he gains support from those of us who see through this.

Why are so many of you assuming any RP interview is an epic battle. This was an extremely interesting discussion. Russert is doing an awesome job here, he asks everyone tough questions and followups, and I wish all candidates had to run his gauntlet. Go find the transcript and look at how much ground gets covered in this interview compared to others.
