@camfighter22 You can blow it out or add water. When I had it on my hand, I just shook my hand, which basically blew out the flame. Hand sanitizer is mostly water anyway, so the flame doesn't really want to burn.
@amandachristina123 It doesn't matter what brand you use as long at it contains at least 60% alcohol. The fire is hot. You can hold it maybe a couple of seconds, but that's it.
@allicat1968 It's ethyl alcohol in water. Except for the fragrance it's pretty much the same chemicals you'd use to make a flaming dessert. So, no, not particularly toxic. If hand sanitizer gives you skin disease then that kind of negates using it in the first place, right?
@vivalauri777 The chemicals are safe. It's always a good plan to use caution with fire. It does not burn you immediately, but as other people have commented, it will burn if you keep it on your skin more than a couple of seconds.
FYI, this dude is a professional, usually people can't hold the fire on them as long as he can so don't be thinking it's only THAT HOT! I've touched it and could barely resist 2 seconds of it.
I'm 12 years old and tried this yesterday with three of my cousins we got carried away and used all the hand sanitizer its so fun it doenst burn only after 5 seconds after my cousin put it all over his hands and said im the master of fire it was funny when it got too hot he just shaked his hands and the fire went away so COOL
@iGadgetFan You don't need boric acid. It's just a chemical you can use to color the flames green. If you do use boric acid, you can simply rinse it off with water when you're done with the project.
@aketchsiPotpot You can shake it out or put your other hand over it to smother the flame. A practical application of this project would be demonstration of flame test colors or the emission spectra of metal salts. I've had good luck using metal salts in the flame to produce the colors. Liquid alcohol works fine, but this flame tends to be easier to control and is longer-lasting.
@305Xtream It's cool relative to other flames... like a wood fire or propane flame. It's still hot. There's always a risk of getting burned playing with fire.
@shoktrooper159 Color and temperature primarily depend on the fuel that is burned, so it isn't necessarily true that a blue flame is hotter than, say, a yellow flame. If the combustion temperature increases, like in a mixed fuel, then yes, you do move along the spectrum as more energy is emitted.
U can also use aftershave for this experiment it's just that it stinks
And it can b done on any surface cus only the alcohol gets burnt and the surface remains intact without any spots
