Unlike America where it is responsible for people like Ke$ha and Justin Beiber, he is canadian, but it was probably americans who signed him.

@speedtab gotta say that it's true, real fans will buy the cd in the store, those who just "like the music" will simply download it and those aren't real fans. but the sound quality is pretty much the same - i admit it: i downloaded ellie's songs a few weeks before i bought the cd. the quality of the downloaded songs is just the same as the quality of the cd-songs, if not better. songs on youtube have more bass most of the time - which is reaaally good.
