1975-1976 at WNBY 1450am Newberry Michigan, they had an old mono version of what the GM called "THE WEDGE" RCA wedge. He also used ceramic cartridges in the turntables until I convinced him that Shures wouldn't scratch the cues. They still did but did it a lot less and tracking weight was lower. Pictures of the Gates board he later got on my facebook page. But nothing else changed.
Thanks for posting I love seeing old vintage broadcast equipment like this. I was on at a High School radio station in Indianapolis in the late 70's early 80's.
We had one at WBRU(FM)Providence RI for a long time.My current station, WVCH, has 2 of them.. one was used on air and the other was cannibalized for parts.
hi, this is sweet. Did RCA do a solid state version of these mixers around this time? I'm looking at an AWA Consolette (they manufactured from license the RCA designs in Australia) which looks almost identical to this, but no tubes. Otherwise complete, I reckon. Trying to get into on it. It's called a "BAC-1" Consolette.
Used this board at KOOL AM/FM in Phoenix about 1965. Gene Autry and Tom Chauncey bought the entire NAB show package--this was the first on the air. Every once in a while, a transistor transient would blow us off. Never met our engineers who ran spots, etc. We all knew each other via the talkback to the AM transmitter, but never met.
Great Radio Console. My very first radio job I operated a board just like this one. It was a stereo unit, and it was playing the hits on WACX am 1600. I recently found the board at this very station, and asked about buying it, but no one wants to sell it to me..
Love this guy talking!! LOL

I still remember how much I liked the pre-amps on this console. Though the pots were noisy as heck.

I have an Ampex 620! What a great little amp. I'm going to use it through my guitar w/ a boost pedal.
