Today it just seems like it's all image,with very little talent. No true substance or originality. It's repetitive garbage.

@duncv1 U consider urself a TRUE fan but haven't paid attention since the 90's? I'd say fair weather. I'm not a manager just a proud, dedicated TRUE fan in that I have followed her career as well as her Myspace, FB. Twitter, website and so forth to know what she is doing, where she is appearing and so forth. I don't rely on general media, if u haven't noticed driven by crass sensationalism. Money in my pocket? No, but she remains an inspiration & her music still rocks unless u just like BET

I never understood that comparison of calling Jody "the black Madonna". Jody's style and originality was all her own. Not to knock Madonna, whom I also loved back in the 80's, but Jody's style had a sense of elegance, sensuality and very much european inspired.....while Madonna's style in the early days was somewhat rebellious and bad girl trashy

@eric9590...What's also funny is that Jody Watley's sense of style came out before Madonna. Madonna was given the credit but Jody Watley was the original. I'm a fan of Madonna, but I gotta give credit where credit is do and Jody Watley gets it.

@eric9590 I think what they mean is that she has a style and originality of her own like Madonna. And I actually can see the comparison a bit with the fru fru skirts and synthesized beats plus the vocals are similar too.

Or being influenced by them however you wanna call it.Same 4babyface No matter how big fan you are of Jody,its clear shes an artist in her own right but theres people here putting down Madonna. Like it or not she's an icon with a very distintictive voice and a strong live act who redefined the female pop star .She influenced Janet britney Gaga and so on

Jody Watley was never trying to sound or look like Madonna let's be clear.She was doing it as a popular dancer on Soul Train, an original member of Shalamar etc. Madonna was sex and came out biting the black sound. Jody she vogued pre Madonna on Soul Train her video for Friends the first w rap verses with Eric B & Rakim formula STILL is use today Jody was also in Gaultier as early as 84 post Shalamar, It was M who followed Jody to David Fincher. @eric9590 Eric, I had this discussion on here with some folks awhile ago, and BOY, did it get UGLY. I kept saying the same thing you just said and was surprised to find out that that naysayers were adamant in saying that Madonna watched and followed Jody from her Soul Train days and did (according to them) steal or borrow some of Jody's style and ideas. They claimed that Jody was wearing tutus, leggings and boostiers before Madonna. I didn't see how this could be so, when Madonna was Mid 80's.
