this technique is awesome, I haven't practiced it yet so to me it seems that if beginners get lost with it they might run into trouble hyperextending flexible people's shoulder joints. but they sa it's an elbow lock so.....can't stretch that.
also, armbars include figure 4 locks with the arms and legs(omaplatas and kimuras/americanas) as well as the juji gatame and its variations. armbar is a broad term like leglock.
Depending on the joint flexibility and integrity of a person, armlocks that hyperrotate the shoulder joint can also hyperrotate the elbow joint, and vice versa.
an 'armbar' is ANY technique that hyperextends the ELBOW joint....in this case it is the Shoulder Girdle that is being engaged...Its just a common misnomer guys...not a big deal especially coming from a guy that can barely speak english. probably got lost in translation somewhere lol..great technical varitation by the way.
ACTUALLY..this technique was RECENTLY dubbed the 'kimura' named after Masahiko Kimura who broke Helio Gracie's arm with it in 1951. the technique itself is ancient. originally it has been referred to as.. 'Uingu/hane'- translates:'Wing' or.. 'Sukkarakan hane-gatame'-translates:'Broke wing' ..these are among other common labels ......

This particular set up is easy to escape due to lack of body control, nice none the less.

@TheGoodhunt ude garami is the formal name for "modern kimura". In judo and aikido, it's ude garami.

Its a type of Armlock, not an Armbar. An Armbar is a type of Armlock also, just a different lock.

Kimura is named after the Japanese fighter who first applied this move. It was named in his honor.

mmmm thats a kimura..not an armbar?
ayejonathan 2 years ago
a kimura is still a arm bar, its just a reverse figure 4 armlock. its still considered an armbar though
T0KIWARTOOTH 2 years ago
@ayejonathan It's only called a "kimura" in BJJ. In Judo and Sambo it's a type of armlock/armbar.
