They are Russian Cossacks who are trained warriors from birth; their historical role is to defend Russian southern fringes that currently merges with Chechnya; they're fighting muslims b/c to become Cossack one has to be Christian. For most of you who do not understand Russian from this video, these soldiers are not Spetsnaz (although they use the tactics). They are Russian Cossacks who are trained warriors from birth; their historical role is to defend Russian southern fringes that currently merges with Chechnya; they're fighting muslims b/c to become Cossack one has to be Christian. They have doing this for centuries; please read up on Cossacks' historical role.

it has little to do with being Muslim. The majority of Russians in the South are, many of them served in the military fighting these morons. Many Chechens themselves have allied themselves with gov. forces to fight extremist outbreaks (Kadyrov regiment). Also, Chechens aren't Cossacks ;) and never were.

it's complicated. some chechens want a sharia law republic and their power is often exagerated. Partly because terrorists from all over the world were trafficked into Chechnya to help their "islamic brothers". There are many muslims in South Russia, and the majority of them are peaceful and would prefer stability over revolution. There is no such thing as "Russians", just like there are no "Americans" this is a country of many ethnicities.
