Lastly, what more sacred duty does a soldier have than protecting the innocent? The average Iraqi simply wants to live, have their children be safe, things we want as well. Were I a soldier destined to die in battle, that is how I would choose to go, protecting those who cannot protect themselves. let me clear some stuff up. the escort unit was a national guard unit led by a female officer not a combat unit. she ordered her men to button up and run. i spent a year in that sector and had to clean that mess up. trust me when 1-15 in bn showed up it was a much different fight. dont blame kbr they try to help as much as possible trust me they are appreciated by a lot of us soldiers.

Those soldiers jobs were to escort and protect those drivers, so yes, they ran like cowards. In doing so, got innocent Americans killed!! I feel for the dead, but it's clear to me that these men, had never been in a life and death situation before or they would have never taken the job to begin with. If they were trying to be patriotic they should have joined the military, otherwise they let greed and possibly ego make a bad decision. The military should be the only one over there, and not civilian contractors. Like I said I'm glad the one guy made it.

To add to that if that truck drive was Australian himself, he would of gotten out of his truck and tried helping the other truck drivers that he just sat back and watched got executed.
