  • It's good to see these two singing together, the late Hardie Clifton and brother James Hardy, if you close your eyes, you wouldn't know who was leading this song. Brother Hardie Clifton was one of the greatest lead singers that ever lived, he was my idol and also Sam Cooke. Brother James Hardy left the Brooklyn All stars to sing with The Soul Stirrers back in the 80's, James has a great voice, more like Hardie Clifton and a little like Sam Cooke, How can I get a copy of this video.

  • WOW. What a gospel classic. Hardie Clifton was one of the greatest lead singers of all time.

  • @roniyia yes Mr Hardie Clifton was related to the Clifton Brothers of Louisburg, NC. I'm orginally from Louisburg and my mom was a Clifton. This is a great video that is my aunt in the front row standing up. The short lady in the middle. This video brought me such joy.

  • One of these days Lord I will be there! Just save a seat for me!

  • The Brooklyn All Stars "one of the sweetest sounding Quartet groups ever." I'm even proud too say that a former member from my hometown in New Bern, NC; Rev. Eugene Toon once sang lead for them!

  • I love this group. Hardie Clifton was the best with a unique voice. I never got to hear him perform live but I remember the group came to Huintsville, Al. right after Mr. Clifton's heart surgery. The program was so blessed. Rev. Spann sung I Stood On The Banks and you could tell he was really moved thinking about his friend. What is the name of the young lead? He looks like a guy who sung lead for Arthur Crume's Soul Stirrers in the 1980's when they came to Huntsville. Is this him?

  • The young lead singer is Reverend James Hardy, he is pastor of the Greater Life Baptist Church in Capital Heights MD. He still sings like that - he can really sing! He is in several local gospel groups in DC area. I sing with him in Helen SMith and the Angels of Faith and ALso the Down Home COuntry Sound. His own group is Rev. Hardy and the Seven Sons. I don't know if he sang with the SOul Stirrers but I will ask him.

  • Simply my favorite song sungby one of the greatest groups of all time

  • Yall Share That Mic Now........

  • I am a New Orleans musician, my dad and I used to listen to the Brooklyn All stars when I was young. Infact, he still have their old albums (a little scratched up) and he has The Gospel Keynotes. I would like to see more of The Allstars myself on youtube if possible. I remember in 1977 for the first time, I saw The All stars. They came to New Orleans his daughter played bass and could sing. What are the Stars doing now?

  • Thanks for adding this video. . . It brought tears to my eyes. It has been about 19 years since my Dad passed on.

Daddy had a voice of gold and when he sung "I'm Too Close" it would send shivers down anyone's spine.

  • Hello,

I am sorry to bother you, my father and myself have been fans of The Star since I was a babby. My dad used to sing for a gospel group in the New Orleans area in the 1960's - 1970's. Now I am carring the musical torch. I have to see if I can buy The Stars on CD or DVD. My dad would love. He still have most of The Brookly All Stars old albums, but they are scratched up

  • Hi Lisa, This is your sister Mickey from High Point. It has been a long time and yes our father was the GREATEST.

  • Hi Lisa. I take it from you comment that Hardie Clifton was your father? I loved his voice. He was truly an awesomesinger. I'm 56 years old now and grew up listening to he and the Brooklyn Allstars....I met your dad once and I cherished that moment forever. He was simply awesome and nobody can duplicate that voice he had. He could, as you shared, literally send chills through the body.

  • This group has always played a major part in my life. My father a former member, the late Kenneth "KK" Willis was their lead guitar. He always talked about how Uncle Hardie would sing his soul out and was not just up there for a show. He told me to take after him, too. So now when my aunts and I sing, i think of him and my dad when i sing no cross, no crown. That is my daddy playing the intro on that and banks of jordan on the original recordings. R.I.P. Uncle Hardie and Daddy. Love You Guys.

  • The Great Hardie CLifton my uncle, my fathers brother the man with a sulrty voice that no one could imitate many have tried but none like him. This video brought tears to my eyes to see my uncle singing. He is very muched missed he has went on to be with lord along with his wife Sherry. This was singing with feeling and we can't let it die and I am going to try and bring it back. The Clifton family is a legacy and filled with many singers. God Bless All

  • @CLIFTON4LIFE hello.i am the niece of one of hardie clifton's sons(Julius Clifton). We live down here in Albany, GA. He told me he has a cousin that her met when he was younger named Lee. Please respond ASAP.

  • @notlem111 Was the late GREAT Mr.Hardie Clifton related to the clifton brothers from Louisburg,North Carolina? They sing too

  • @roniyia i have no idea.

  • @roniyia

Weel he had a brother named Maurice. that was in a group called the carolina singing stars. And Maurice was my father

  • Lord Span has a very deep voice. i met him alot! my 1st cousin lil sonny was singin with him for a while recently now he's doin his own thing but still helps Span out when he can.

  • Yeah Sonny was with my group for a while, The Original Drifters, matter of fact he gave me one of his cds at Bill Pinkneys funeral the last time I spoke with him he was in Kingstree SC

  • Man Sonny be all over. Yea he came home like after the funeral telling us about it. But my cousin done been in so many groups till its a shame lol but I love him tho'. He told us that funeral was PACK!!!

  • Great video! Does anyone know when the founder of this group, Charlie Storey left the group to form his own All-Stars group? Charlie was a great friend of mine, but he never mentioned when he left the group.

  • The short guy is the best leader for this song. The other gentlemen would only let him have the microphone for a short period of time.

  • Hardie Clifton sang this song back in the day and would have out sang the younger guy back in the day. I'm from Alabama and I remember the Brooklyn Allstars coming to my hometown when I was a young kid. They were a very big act back then. They would have people falling out when they performed a song like this. Also, if you want to hear Hardie at his best, please listen to "I Stood On The Banks Of Jordan".

  • Yes Spudz1967, I must agree with you. The late great Hardie Clifton was the man back in the day. I too grew up listening to them. There's one particular "album" that I remembered. They were on the Nashboro label back then, and the title was, "Sing Unto The Lord." That album is very hard to come by now, because the company is out of business. I also had a solo album by Hardie Clifton shortly before he passed away.

  • I agree totally. Hardie was a very blessed man. I say that not only because he was my great-uncle, but because it's true. As a singer myself,in my travels with Pastor Shirley Caesar people still regard him as one of the greatest that ever lived. Johnny

  • Hardie was the man.I believe he had heart trouble. He was the best in his prime. We use to book The All Stars and the Keynotes in one package. The Rugged Cross use to open at the school in Boston.Did Hardie Pass?

  • The older guy is the late great Hardie Clifton. He's the original

  • I can tell you don't know much about the history of the group. The "short guy" as you say is doing a great job but in fact probably wishes he could sing like Hardy Clifton....are you kidding? Hardy was the man during that time...the "older gentleman" (Mr. Hardie Clifton) was pretty much introducing that guy to the crowd. Get your hands on that original recording and you'll see what I mean. Thee is only ONE Hardy Clifton.

  • @JayByrd53

Blessings to you JayByrd. This group is awesome. If I offended you in any way I'd like to say that I'm sorry. I've never seen a group sing this song to perfection and this group did just that. I posted my comment about a year and a half ago but never got a feedback. Thanks for informing me of Mr Hardie Clifton and I will purchase the orginal recording and my ears will be open. I'm a gospel singer also. GOD BLESS YOU.

  • Is this from James Thomas Anniversary,Hardie Clifton an Rev,Thomas Spann, this was my group when i was growin up
