totally one of the greatest groups ever to grace a stage, times are gone will never be forgotten, Stevie Nicks is one of the greatest talents ever.. thank u for so many years of excellence stevie the dustman
I wish Stevie hadn't puffed out her hair like that during this week in Japan in December 1977. I bet she kept it puffed out for the few shows they played in Hawaii after this. Luckily, by the following late winter/early spring, her hair was back to being beautiful again (with Todd Rundgren at the Roxy).
Saw them first in mid 70's at the Capital Center in MD. She was so wild! she used a Shawl and would dance with it running around the back of the stage to the front! I remember me & my BF Debbi thought we could fly down to the stage to join her. 1978. Purple micro. does that to you! Awesome concert! Bob Welch opened for them! It was the BEST concert I ever saw!
she had lost someone very dear to her...and tried to drown the pain and try to keep her mind on the music...anyone who's lost a loved one and had to deal with the soul-searing pain that comes with it, uses whatever tools are available to them...whatever helps keep you sane for the moment...
She was a remarkable woman with a very loving heart...she did what she had to do... and made it through...
miss these days, love fleetwood mac, hyenajack is so right, so many new performers trying to outdo each other in outrageousness and nakedness is not sexy at all, it's just obnoxious. the in your face atitude that misses the mark is usually covering a lack of talent. these were gentler times. i'm not old and i'm no prude but taste is tase and stevie always kept her dignity while roaring with talent and beauty, drugs or no drugs.
@hyenajack You said it best....she was and still is a Rock Star. Classy and elegant. She could teach some of our younger performers a thing or two. She may have been on drugs, but she always looked beautiful and was always a lady. A good example that you don't have to appear almost naked to be in the spot light. Dang, I sound old! hahaha
eerrrrr, ever thought that drugs actually helped the music. No you never have, that is is because you are musically hopeless and haven't ever taken drugs. Shame. At least Stevie and co worked hard on experiencing the world and its joys/pains while making beautiful music. ps. Humans have used coca for thousands of years. Grow up.
@ duxberry1958 - no, nicks and mcvie each wrote the lyrics for 4 songs on that LP. nicks would have had 5, if they hadn't cut silver springs at the last second. buckingham had 3 tracks.
This is PURE Stevie.... One of her most powerful performances.... Like "Sorcerer" and the "Black Ink Darkness". She almost foreshadowing her descent into the 'shadow of a dragon' and the 'gold dust' that almost come to claim her life... But also questioning if lindsey would sell his 'kingdom' (fame) to be with her, or 'pick up the pieces and go home' ... Powerful stuff... I LOVE STEVIE!!!!
When you think about the fact that record companys actually budgeted coke into the recording costs of an album. its a wonder they could make such great music. Wonder what they could have accomplished without drugs :(
Ancient Queen...how ironic that she did not know at the time she was talking about herself. I believe that she did not, she now becomes that Gold Dust Woman.
I have always been of the thought that she did know. That's why the song was always delivered with such feeling. She knew who she was but maybe felt trapped by it all?
Either way, you may be right,it is an excellent song.
Wow... If you ever doubted how much cocaine played a role in creating this band and it's sound.... This should be proof positive for you. Like so many bands of this day, drugs created the sound, and drugs tore them apart...
Somewhere in Japan during the Rumors tour.I'm 100% sure of that, but that's all I know.I'm trying to find a DVD,or whatever, of the entire show.If ya find anything more please let me know.I'll do likewise
I believe this was a Dec '77 show in Japan (Osaka). This is the earliest filmed performance of GDW that I know of...yeah, she looks blitzed, but it fits the subject matter of the song! I think this is an amazing version; the first and still the best. The band's instrumental performance is certainly the best, I love the long fadeout.
This is where the mystery of the legacy continues, behind bleached bozo hair and red stained cheeks with a dirty baboon banging on the ancient drum, and the plucking fuzz monkey to her left. Has she landed or just taken flight? The ending is scary. GO FM!
This is great! I have never seen this video before. foxygrl9, I have never seen Fleetwood Mac in concert (or any concert) but, I was just wanting to know was it as big of problem with Christine that others have stated? I plan to go to the concert next month in Dallas. I have been a Fleetwood Mac listener / fan since I was a little kid.
Just saw Fleetwood Mac on Saturday Night in New Jersey (was anybody there)?. They were awesome!! Did alot of songs from Rumors, Stevie did some of her songs from when she was tourig as a solo act.
Stevie always said that her songs at times were like foreshadowing moments in her life... "Gold Dust Woman" and "Sorcerer" do that... Especially the "Gold Dust" that would come close to taking her life... And the "Black Ink Darkness" that she calles her wilderness period....Though eerie awesome gem of the era... Glad you're still here Stevie!!!!!
This & Rhiannon from this concert are some of the eeriest (in a good way) performances. I think she's exhausted here among other things Coke would make her more up. I tihnk this is the concert following footage of her curling her hair, applying eye makeup and talking about how tired she was. She looks beautiful but if this is the end of Rumours tour w/all the touring, partying, emotional drama- I don't blame her for being tired. Her "tired" is better than half the awake acts out there today.
@InTheStillness82 All that tiredness on this tour is what inspired 'Sisters of the Moon' ~ she looked at herself in the mirror, and felt the exhaustion was making her fade away, so made a pact with her 'mirror sister' that they would get through it...
@InTheStillness82 wow that is a nice analysis of her state. I am getting into the classics lately and eating up all my favorite artists like F.Mac. she looks awesome, just love her.
About wishing to hear the whole show, (would that it were so!),...... it really seems like right near the end (about 8:45), the drums-n-guitar rhythm is about to lead right into "Go Your Own Way" (the way it starts on the live 1980 album)and then fades........Thanks so much for posting great stuff!
Fantastic!!!
