@CoffeeBeatsTea - It's a sport, not self defense... hence the rules and regulations. In Muay Thai, it's illegal to strike an opponent when they're down so indeed, this guy was in the wrong. That said, Muay Thai was originally used for hand-to-hand combat/self-defense but utilized a lot more than what is allowed in the modern day, sporting, version of it for what should be obvious reasons.

i think is the level of a fighter that makes it easy to take to the ground, because a well train fighter could also put on a challange so i think its all skill there is not such thing as a martial stronger than the other is the level of expierence i notice that ufc, thai fighters are believe to be the best, but is because they fight alot so their skills are sharp unlike other arts were actual fights dont happen often

You see, in UFC the standup styles are watered down - or incomplete, as the fighters have more to focus on (ground game). 9/10 of the UFC fights always end up on the ground, therefore, requiring the fighters to focus more on the ground game.

And hell yes, i dont like to get kicked by MT fighters, lol, it doesnt feel nice. I do agree that UFC is over-rated. My main combat sport that i love is MT.

@daaskapital1 exactly. and these dudes can throw three high kicks without slowing down lol. and most ufc fighters that use MT are really only good at getting in the clinch and throwing kness. which is effective, but these guys can tear your shit apart without even clinching. the reason i like boxing and MT is because i think its the way fighting is supposed to be. not going the ground. just standing up and scrappin'. most ground fighters go to the ground 'cuz most of 'em can't take hard hits.

And i think you are exactly right in the fact that ground fighters cant take hard hits. In UFC fights most the time is watching one guy take the other to the ground within the first 20 seconds in fear of being nailed with either a hard punch or a kick. The good hing about MT and boxing is that most the time it is clean and proffesional.

@daaskapital1 and not only that, i feel proud when i watch MT lol. i'm 5'6 and 135-140 lbs and all these thai guys are little guys but they could knockout a heavyweight. and my main issue with the ground game is usually it goes to the ground and there's hardly any hitting.. one guy just lays on top of the other guy and might go for a submission.. just my opinion, but if you win a fight by submission... you didn't win the fight, you just made your way through the fight.

I'm looking at different styles to see which is practical. Most incorporate holds and locks. I think locks work better for ground fighting, but during stand up. This is more like it. @bournepriest Quickest answer is why be afraid when someone punches fast? In Muay thai the training I had concentrated on using speed and power, while toughening the body so that I can take hits. In terms of getting holds the best way is to get close to the opponent which possibly makes them lose distance control. at that moment even if you get hit your always close enough to go for a clinch, or if you do grappling, it proves the same theory.
