Right? This performance was totally synched, however it doesn't cheapen the immediacy of the real feelings exhibited within the material of the songcraft.
I thought it was about Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, mainly because I think a lot of the lyrics and the title are dialogue in it. Could be an illusion of mine tho.
@GreenGearMood Tone, no. Lyrics, yes. Its a homage / inspiration from Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World". Everybody has fake happiness and meaningless existences and when the protagonist tries to explain his hate and depression of his supposedly ideal world, his girl turns to him and says "How can you say that? Everybody's happy nowadays." Its a cynical song.
Billiant song. I always loved the Buzzcocks. Shame about the bored looking audience, sort of ruins it a bit. But to be fair: not all geman audiences are like that. I lived in Duesseldorf in the 80s and believe me, if that tune had been played at the "Ratinger Hof" where the punk and new wave scene met, the audience would not have looked so bored!!!
Gee they were good weren't they? They made love songs acceptable at a time when they were completely unacceptable. Always liked how they had a beach boys harmony in this song.
