Simple Minds covering Biko might have been good had they done it around the time of their Sparkle In The Rain album where they covered Lou Reed's Street Hassle. With the intensity and sheer force of production (think of East At Easter, Kick Inside Of Me, Waterfront ...) they'd have done this song justice.

But by 1988, Simple Minds were a completely different band. Their songs were hollow, their production overblown, and the songs they covered were rendered lifeless. Shame.

Knowing the way Jim can work a crowd, I'd have to say that a live version of this in front of a crowd the size of the ones Peter performed in front of, would force most people think long and hard before choosing who is 'better'.

Having Jim get thousands of people to chant and sing would give his version far more impact.

I'll call it a tie.

Just so you know, the lyric is Yihla Moja, Yihla Moja, the man is dead,not hiromija. In Xhosa, one of South Africa's official languages, Yihla Moja means "Come Spirit". Thats where it comes from. so, now you know
