  • can you use odin to put custom firmware on it if it isn't rooted?

  • @SamwesBT Yes

  • Thank you so much...you DA man!!

  • I need a stock .tar file for a Samsung Infuse . PLEASE HELP

  • Suggestion for your future videos: use s screen recorder on your pc such as cam studio and a screen recorder for your phone such as the one in Droid Explorer, whenever possible

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS TUT ITS EVERYTHING I NEEDED TO UNBRICK MY PHONE!

  • Does the cable make that big of a difference? I have gotten hung up in the Odin install about 4 times now. It starts out and then just hangs. I then have to reinstall ACS tar files and then recover from backup but I don't have my stock backup. So I can't get back to stock. If I get a new cable and it doesn't work then what? How can i get to 3.0?

  • @sruyle Cable makes a huge difference. I've seen it multiple times where people get new cables and it works.

  • ok so my samsung Epic 4g is stuck on boot up screen...and it wont go to download screen..what do i do?

  • thanks brother your the man

  • Hey qb thanks for the videos man. I need your help i just unrooted back to stock but my baseband is still SAYING EG22. if i take it to sprint will that effect me? or am i good cause there no root? and if so wut should the base band be? thanks alot man

  • @ScullBayProductions That's fine... as long as you're stock I wouldn't worry about it

  • Thank you very much for your help. I tried using another method of unrooting my phone and I spent a whole day trying with luck. This method you showed took a bit of time but at least it worked. Thank you again. :)

  • @qbking77 Help me please! I backed-up my data on CWM and then unrooted my Samsung Epic so I could download EI22 Gingerbread. I did the OTA download and got Gingerbread working. Then I did the Odin tweak to make sure my Epic would always remember my root and not go back to stock. Then I accidentally installed the latest Odin root for the Epic Touch. Then I installed the Odin root for regular Epic and my phone bricked. Won't get past the Samsung opening logo. Can I follow this video and go back?

  • Im unrooting my phone so I can get EI22 Gingerbread, instead of going back to Stock EC05 Can I just use Odin to go straight to EI22?

  • @qbking77 I went to the driver download link and I downloaded some FoxTab FLV player. Is that what I need?

  • @ladiesman2176468 No uninstall that. Try a different download link on that link.. its tough to find

  • so if it hangs up while doing this, what do u do, if i unhook it will brick wont it, how do i safely stop and try again. has been on modem for 15 minutes?

  • @markemark98611 Just pull battery and start over..... Try different cables, different ports, and take out the sd card

  • Thanks Man good job on the video you made it simple enough for even me to understand!!

  • Hey...this was very helpful. Thank you very much!

  • Question for you...my phone just hangs at the Galaxy S screen. I tried to restore my calendar storage that I accidentally deleted via Titanium and nothing. I'm new to rooting and I was afraid I was going to screw something up. :-(

  • @euphgirl I'd say follow this video then.

  • @qbking77 Yup almost got the EB13 file downloaded. I"m assuming after this I follow the video on how to download to Gingerbread and then root...

  • @euphgirl It should OTA update for you actually.

  • @qbking77 Yeah it's OTA to EC05 right now. Thanks a million for saving my rookie butt! LOL. I will reroot this phone but know NOT do delete that file again.

  • So I'm on SFR right now with the genocide kernel. If I understand it right, the full tar replaces both the ROM AND the kernel to stock, correct?

  • @PreformedSoup Correct!

  • Pit File link is broken I think.

  • Help?! Ok so i reinstalled my drivers, changed the usb cords, drivers and everything like 6 times. My cpu will not recognize my epic 4g in downloading mode, but it recognizes it when its powered on and everything. Any idea's will be VERY appreciated. Btw im not rooted.

  • @redboxsixtyfive Try taking out your sd card.... only other thing is maybe try a different pc?

  • @qbking77 Guess im going to have to. Thanks for the feedback!... do you think it's because i have Froyo dk28 ?? Also without download mode on while doing this will brick it correct?

  • @redboxsixtyfive Yeah I think so.

  • @qbking77

Thanks a lot for a detailed procedure

actually i had odin back from EI 22 to EC05 as i had USB connected notification popping on the notification bar

now i am on back on EC 05 & the USB notification which constantly irritated me is Gone !! thanks again , now i will root & & update to EI 22 again

    Thanks again :-)

  • You da man. Thank you.

  • any average time for how long it should take after i press start on odin?? i'm using the stock ec05 and pit mentioned above, and its been on factoryfg.rfs for about 10 minutes now

  • @NYK288 Shouldn't take that long.... I'd say try again... use different cables, try wihtout sd card in... try different usb ports

  • @qbking77 sweet finally got it working after using another usb cable, u da man

  • .And as a final question, I went back to stock because I was having severe battery issues on Frozen 1.2./Twilight 1.1.1. I tried everything from turning off apps to even uninstalling them, just in case. It would tell me 86% and a few hours later be near dead. I have tried calibrating several times but it was not helpful. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks

  • @johnkim0801 I'd say if you're back on stock.. update to official gingerbread. Just look for my video on how to manually update!

  • Thanks for all your tutorials!

I used this tutorial to unroot my epic back to stock using all the files you listed and gave, using the EC05 update. I was just wondering if this is the most current update available at the moment? Sorry, I am new to all this and am learning as I go. I also tried updating PRL/Profile/Firmware but it gives me "Error: Unknown Error." Is this normal and no updates exist at this point?

  • I am assuming the unrooting process was successful because the firmware, kernel and build all changed back to 2.2.1, 2.6.32.9 and FROYO.EC05 respectively

  • Is there any way to backup and then restore data after using ODIN?

  • @Trubbycool Titanium backup

  • being as odin has been updated since u first made this do u just use what ever pit file comes up cause one in ur vidoe is completly diff then my pit file

  • I found it thanx for all the help!

  • I rooted my Galaxy s2/epic 4g but everytime i use a rooted app is asks me to update super user and says i cant update because of the kernel. And a few times i have lost complete service. Should i unroot and reroot with any particular files?

  • @AlexanderJCarrion Do you have a galaxy s2 or an epic 4g?

  • @qbking77 epic 4g touch

  • @AlexanderJCarrion I'd say flash a rom

  • THANKS I DID EVERYTHING U SAID AND IT WORK GREAT....! THANKS AGAIN

  • done everything cannot get the com port to recognize the phone. please help!!!

  • @dirtona Have you tried a blackberry cable?

  • I forgot to uncheck re-partition when attempting to do this. Odin contiunes to fail. My phone is bricked, any suggestions?

  • @nbk7jvp Try a different cable and take out the sd card

  • Thank You!

  • continued:

i ask because the phone reboots itself constantly. mostly when on GPS, internet, radio or anytime more than texting or phone call is being used.

I want to just flash a custom ROM but wondering if you guys think i should just go back to stock and if this method on the video will also unroot the phone as well as bring the ROM back to stock

  • @staffer89 Yes, go back to stock first. Once there follow the latest rooting video "how to root the samsung epic 4g on froyo and gingerbread"

  • so i just purchased a pre-owned samsung epic 4g. 30 days old. Now the person had rooted the phone because i noticed it had clockworkmod 2.5 on it and superuser

the issue is i dont know how well he rooted the phone and if there are discrepancies between the rooted process and the rom being used.

the phone has froyo ec05, firmware 2.2.1 kernal 2.6.32.9 and i am assuming he has stock ROM . is there any known problems with having a rooted phone with stock rom? i

  • wow!! i know NOTHING of this sort ...and followed ur steps and it totally saved my phone! thank you SO MUCH. i bet ur other videos would be great and id love to follow up. thanks so much. God bless!

  • @yaysteph I appreciate those kind words :)

  • Also, the link for the PIT file is not the same as your video. Is that just an updated one?

  • @darkwhyt Use the victory pit. Re download the tar and use a different usb port. Try different cables as well.

  • Hey buddy thanks for the help so far! I put the phone in download mode, did everything you said, but when I hit start it pops up with a big red FAIL.

  • it stops at set up connection!!

  • @chrisgabenathanfrank Try a different cable.

  • Fantastic!

  • My phone is soft bricked. I'm kind of new to this.

I was trying to change the modem from the EC05 I had while rooted to EG22. I didn't have a ".pit" file when I was doing this, I was using the Samsung POS micro USB cable and after my phone plugs into the computer, my Wi-Fi stops working. Could that be a problem? (Not having Wi-Fi?) The point is: After Odin says "Setup Connection" it stopped working. After 15 minutes, I gave up. Now I'm just trying to get it working again. Can you help me?

  • Nevermind... I hate that Samsung cord... I used a Palm one and now it's actually working. Thanks anyways. This all happened because the tutorial I was following didn't mention the cord. As always you have been MORE informative.

  • @CottonballsFck Happy to help :)

  • AWSOME!!!!!! THANK !!!

  • every time i flash back to stock eco5 it gets stuck on the samsung screen

  • @djsic18 It shouldn't... does odin finish?

  • @qbking77 i sent my phone to the insurance company after i broke my digitizer il let them deal with it

  • Awesome!!! Got my phone back from lifelessness.

  • mine keeps failing, saying it can't open the serial (COM) port?

  • @iDFYvatiken make sure drivers are installed, try different ports, different cables and try without the sd card in.

  • qbking is the best in instructional videos. Thanks for all your help

  • Man, my phone got bricked after I tried to boot it and do the 2nd step after rooting...

I tried all the steps you mentioned- used the May 17th update & PIT file on odin and I'm now stuck on "setup connection" on odin with no progress being made whatsoever

  • @phantomdeopera Reinstall drivers, try different ports and cables.

  • I rooted SGS4G. I cant get into my settings- display. Can u help?

  • @tiffanyap007 Try flashing the tar again

  • Incredible!!! Worked perfectly! I am back to stock so that I can get the OTA for Froyo. :) Of course with my luck they will push Gingerbread soon and kill my phone like they did with the Froyo update before Samsung and Sprint pulled the OTA. Anyway... Thanks!

  • @JustTheNormXY You are welcome! Glad it worked :)

  • Quick question? I have used odin before back when the tar was DI18 and I have never user a PIT file. What exactly does the PIT file do?!? Also, on the "Options" I usually only have "Auto Reboot" checked...I have seen different sites say to check "Re-Partition", "Auto Reboot", and "F. Reset Time." What exactly do all the options do?!?

  • @futbolplayer1288 PIT tells the filesystem where to partition. Just use the Victory PIT and EC05 tar. DO NOT check anything but Auto Reboot. I don't care what other sites say.... ONLY have auto reboot checked. Don't worry about those options because they are mainly developer functions.

  • @qbking77 Ahhh ok well that makes sense.....I will just check auto reboot like I have been doing forever.....Thanks!

  • thanks!

  • when I download odin it stays as a rar. file not a zip, so when I try to open it, it asks me to find a windows program to open it, it isnt the actual program?

  • @dbilinski313 Download the app 7zip to unzip it

  • QB my dude Help! man I was playing with my phone & soft bricked it! CRAZY the phone is a week old! So here's my prob (other then I have an expensive paper weight currently!) I downloaded Odin v4.03 do you think you know how to give help using this version or should I use the older 1 you listed? Man any help would be great thankx

  • @1Qikthot Yeah use the one I have... it works great still.

  • Yo QB u are a life saver recently bricked my phone and got hella nervous...did this and everything is good again gona try to root my phone and this this the right way again ill keep u updated

  • @Brooklyn6oi Sounds good, just let me know if you need any more help!

  • @FallacyofMan got it fixed. Odin did the job even if it is not on download mode. Somehow, Odin manage to force the device to be on Download mode. now it's okay. I guess what ever happens or like whenever you brick your device, you don't need to worry as long as Odin is able to see it, It will flash it and restore it.

    Thanks.

  • @BoyKapsa awesome! Glad you got it :)

  • I've fixed it! i used the updated Odin 1.7 and it worked like charm..

  • All i see now is a yellow triangle with an exclamation point i between the phone and PC. I think i bricked my Galaxy Tab. :( now i don't know what to do. the table is still recognized by the computer (in Odin it is on Com 15)

Now i don't know what to do next :( i know it's not a samsung 4G but prettymuch i think the process with Odin is still the same. I hope you guys can help me out.

  • @BoyKapsa Look up online where to buy a "USB Jig". That will allow you to get into download mode - although, if you can get into download mode right now, there's no need for that. Once you're in download, run Odin One-Click, and that will get you back to goodness.

  • odin bricked my phone :( i tried to unbrick it and its stuck at factoryfs.rfs

  • @nayamoss7110 Try different cable, different ports, take out sd card, and try reinstalling drivers.

  • you are the man THANK YOU

  • thank you so much

  • What if the PIT won't download how do I get the victory pit?

  • @niggletimanaa Send me a Private message and I'll send you a download link

  • all the download links dont have any downloads on them

  • Thanks, worked great!!!! Theres NO WAY i could have figured this out without this video.

  • @BiloxiSoldier Glad you got it :)

  • i havent had a contract with them for years (always refused to sign up but always got the same upgrade benefits) no insurance either so they wont replace it. i tried3 different cables. its back to not even getting into download mode

  • @ProDucT809 Just tell them your phone froze, and you pulled the battery and now it wont come on anymore. Say you dont know what happened.

  • i have this epic 4g to cricket... if i do this do i have to flash it again to cricket? i dont want to pay another 35 bucks to flash it again :(

  • @druidirvin I'm not sure... send me a PM and I'll find out.

  • what can I do if in the process, after hitting start, odin stalls when the green bar is half way. above the green bar is factoryfs.rfs and no download bar ever appeared on the download screen of my epic?

  • @ProDucT809 Make sure drivers are installed... try differnet usb ports, try different cables, try it without sd card, try it without battery

  • @qbking77 lol well just tried all of that and didnt work... its no longer a soft brick; it simply just doesnt turn on now

  • @ProDucT809 hmm it doesn't go into download mode?

  • @qbking77 nope, nothing at all. no lights flashing, computer no longer recognizes it connected either..

  • @ProDucT809 I'd say pull battery and leave it out for a while.. Then try it again.. If it doesnt work just bring it in to sprint.

  • @qbking77 do you know of a good website where I can send it in to unbrick it? A Sprint tech couldn't do much either. They got it to go into download mode but not recovery mode, While in download mode it would keep freezing at factoryfs.rfs

  • @ProDucT809 have you tried using a blackberry cable? Sprint wont replace it?!

  • b4 I tried going back to stock I had the midnight rom (the one you made the video of)

  • your video is great...worked great thanks!

  • @GregVasquez777 No problem! Happy to help.

  • Thank You! You Saved My Day and $300.... I was having a problem trying to go into Download Mode. But I solved it, this is what you have to do on the Samsung Galaxy Indulge 4G Metro PCS:

    Remove USB Cable

    Remove SD Card

Hold "9" from the slide keyboard + the Power Button

You should see Download Mode in a few seconds.

Thank you QBKING77 i'll send you a donation as soon as i can.

(note to amateur rooters: Don't use Liberty tool box, this is what fucked up my phone with other Roms)

    Thank you again

  • @italianodicuore Happy to help!! Thanks for the support :)

  • Hey qbking i got a question, odin did recognized it and everything when i pressed start, its stuck on "setup connection" what did i do wrong?? :(

  • @trinh002 It's most likely the cable. Try different usb ports and try different cables.

  • @trinh002 Okay now its stuck on Modem.bin

  • I rooted my phone thinking that I had to if I wanted to upgrade to Gingerbread - I am running Gingerbread right now and wondered if I could "unroot" my phone and keep Gingerbread following the steps you outline in this video - or will it return to FROYO ?

  • can you do this with the samsung transform?????

  • @Epicdroid I do not think so... I'm sure there are different files to use.

  • I have become a regular and I wanted to thank you for all your help. I just have a quick question. If I want to ever 'unroot' my phone but stay on Gingerbread - If I understand your instructions, I just need to use ODIN and install ECO5 - Did I understand that correctly?

When and if I do go back to STOCK and unroot my phone, will I lose any programs I have installed ? What back up program would you reccomend ?

thanks for all your help - your videos are awesome!

  • @ShimmeringGlass Odin and installing EC05 will give you the latest official android 2.2. When you use odin to go back to stock, you always lose apps and everything. I recommend titanium backup, thats what I use.

  • Ya, I'm really that glad. (lol, that and my internet was being dumb. =p)

  • You rock dude! Thanks for posting this very helpful video.

  • You rock dude! Thanks for posting this very helpful video.

  • So I was getting the screen showing a phone a small orange triangle and a computer. I am trying to use this method but my computer is saying the device is not recognized. Before it bricked, my computer was able to recognize my device, It recognizes my other Epic, but not this one? Any idea why?

  • @GaviGames could be the spot to plug the phone in is more sensitive. Try a different cable.

  • @qbking77 I used my laptop. It seemed to be the drivers. Thanks though.

  • Can you please help me!!!! when i put the pit and pda it worked for about 5 sec then said failed now my phone is always stuck on the loading screen when you turn it on. Any suggestion?

  • @DnViDz make sure drivers are installed... try every usb port, try different cables.

  • I'm using a different usb cable and I installed the drivers usb debugging is off but when I go into download mode it says "usb not recognized". I tried different slots as well. Any ideas?

  • @Phoolishent It doesn't say COM#? I would say try a different cable. Preferably a thick blackberry cable.

  • Thank you man! Awesome video and very easy to follow, fixed my phone.

  • @MikelRogers07 Good, happy to have helped :)

  • I returned my phone to EC05 successfully, but randomly my phone will say that the memory has been unexpectedly removed. is this a small glitch?

  • @abstractart18 sounds like an issue with the memory card or with the physical phone part where the memory card inserts. back up sd card data and try formatting the sd card.

  • Alright, here's where else you've lost me. You have us download the victory pit, but don't use it, and I don't recall being told to download the one that you used. Plus, even in following the video step by step, I don't have the sh1 pit that you DID use. Am I O.K. to just use the Victory pit?

  • @LoveSoLost Yes just use the victory pit.... that is the most updated pit! Sorry for the confusion

  • Will this method help my phone become compatible for other networks other than sprint? Just curious, I don't know shit :)

  • @LoveLostInMyHead It will not, it depends onthe carrier you are attempting to be on!

  • This guy's the man..THANKS

  • Hey there, I used your link to download all the software and followed your instructions to a T. After opening Odin, adding the pit and tar files and ensuring that Auto Reboot was the only one checked, I ran the program and all seemed fine except that I had 3 ID:COM ports lit up in Odin:

    0:[COM11]

    1:[COM3]

    2:[COM6]

and eventually it stopped on its own saying it could not open the serial(COM) port

  • I can send you a PM on what the actual scripts said. Please let me know. Thanks!

  • @jrohhh btw, i have a stock EC05 and used the .tar file in the description. stuck in Download mode! lol.

  • @jrohhh That's an interesting error. Unplug all things out of usb that you don't need. Open odin, plug in your phone and see which com lights up.

  • @qbking77 ok, unplugged another USB that was plugged in and had no choice but to power down the phone and try again. this time, got a picture of a warning sign between a phone and computer

managed to find Odin ver1.6 and did the process over again and this time only 1 port lit up

    ran it and it yielded:

[OSM] All threads completed (succeeded 0 / failed 1)

  • @jrohhh Yeah try every usb port, try a different cable as well. That is where your issue lies.

  • So i un-rooted back to Stock which seemed to work really well (thanks to your awesome vids), but I'm still on the updated Clockwork Mod (3.1.0.1). I un-rooted to get the official GB release when it comes out (the leak had some bugs). Will it hurt anything to stay on this version of Clockwork or is there a way to go back to the version with EC05? Thanks!

  • @rickdgv Yeah follow this video exactly, except use the EC05 tar file, the download link is in the description.

  • @qbking77 Thanks for the response, I don't think I communicated the question very well. I did use this video to go back to stock (2.2) using ODIN, the Victory-8G-100528 pit file and EC05 tar file. However if I do the 3 finger boot into Clockwork, it is still "purple" so I assume I am still on 3.1.0.1. Will it hurt to stay on this version? Or do I need to go back to the other version, if so, I don't recall seeing that in the video.... Thanks very much for you help and guidance, oh wise one!

  • @rickdgv Oh so you went back to stock and then re rooted? You need to make sure you have all the stock apps such as that racing game.

  • @qbking77 No I didn't re-root, and currently on stock (FROYO), with the updated CWM. Yeah I think I have all the stock apps (Asphalt 5 is the racing game?). Will it hurt to leave this version of CWM on the phone or do I need to go back? Sorry, I tried looking thru XDA, but didn't see anything relevant.....Thanks qb...
