captain hans langstorff never returned to germany after scuttling the graf spee off the river plate, i believe he is buried in monte video ater his suicide there..he would have been hanged or shot on his return to germany after failing to obay the fuhrers orders.. this was the fate of many germans, the choice was death by there own hand or by one of hitlers henchmen, hitler was a cowerd and a lier and was a really bad military strategist..
Only having 2 gun houses freed up a lot of space that could have been used for AA positions, The US would have been well served to have adopted such a strategy in the pacific.
At the moment of leaving Montevideo Harbour, only the central engine was working, all others were saboted, the crew was only 43 seamen and were dropped overboard at the starboard side, all percutors of the artillery guns. All electronic devices were pulverized and complete destroyed in the early afternoon of the 17th.
The damaged Arado Ar-196 in the catapult wear french insignias. The floatplane was damaged in a recco flight sometime before the battle of the 13-12 and recovered in sinking condition ,but was never repaired.
Another great upload skoblinI. Raising the entire wreckage seem virtually impossible as visibility in RiverPlate waters is less than 1m. Hard to believe that such an undertaking can be accomplished with eyes blindfolded. We´ll see...
Sad irony, it being 25 years (in roughly in the same part of the globe) after the death of the Admiral Spee along with the almost total sinking of the Count's plucky squadron against the omnipresent Royal Navy.
"If it had not been for you English, I should have been emperor of the East, but wherever there is water to float a ship, we found you in our way. In all my plans, I have always been thwarted by the British fleet." Napoleon on his (British)ship ride to St-Helena.

"PLUCKY"
ROFLMAO.......TWICE.
Spee blew unarmed merchant ships out of the water, still, for some I suppose that qualifies as "plucky".

Graf Spee was used as a commerce raider ,which it did well. The USA disabled Japan by sinking nearly its entire merchant fleet in the same manner.
