Thank you for keeping this film on the web. Everyone should see it. We all should have paid more attention to this in 2001; maybe 9/11 could have been avoided. The resemblence between the 2 towers and the 2 Buddhas is eery. I decided, when I saw this several years ago, to gather together as many images of the Buddhas as possible (as far as my money would allow, which is not much!) and leave them as a gift to a Buddhist university someday. If they destroyed 1 images, I will create 10,000.

I know ...they dont have a history grand enough like the one they destroyed. All that piled up bombs and dynamite, not much happening in life take it out with a statue of buddha they must be bored.

To distory is to stop future generations from learning what has been learnt in the past. I am sure that the people who created such amazing work wanted to share their stories with us. Don't be sadden by the destruction "Feeling is impermanent" to feel sad is to suffer. For the people who have destroyed anything material or non material "feeling of happiness was impermanent" to feel happy from destruction is suffering. (this is one thing humans have never learnt from pass history).

I am a buddhist.
What I learnt from the Dhamma (which is the teachings of the buddha) is to not believe in a person blindly who may distort the facts for his or her own gain
Buddha taught not to become attached to things (material or non material) cause if you do it causes suffering. People need to realise this I only feel sad that people who distroyed the buddha statue with bullets or bombs did not have enough respect for the people who worked hard and died for in creating such amazing work

Anyways these werent built by chinks from india or nepal. These were built by afghans when some purposion of the population converted to budhist at that time but i cant condone this act but i can say is that USA helped create taliban during soviet days...before, there were no taliban.

Im not condoning it, im saying is it was built by THERE ANCESTORS regardless whether they were muslim back then or not take for example i had a necklace that was passed on to me from my great grand parents I can be the judge of what i want to do with it. Wether i want to sell it or destroy it.

@crazybones2009 they were never converted by force..one of the earliest muslim were pashtoons. Some of th biggest spreaders of islam & islamic warriors were afghans. Afghanistan was never buddhist country, at one point it had a large numbers of budhist converters but never majority. America is arleady destoying mosques in muslim country but muslim are immigrating to the west and creating even more mosques & sometimes over churches. It works both ways. You lose some you gain more. Story of islam.

@UAEPASS1 ...one thing is that ive never seen anyone in US or in europe distroying a mosque, thats a lie. They were generous eneough to allow muslims to build mosques and continue their practice...but can an American goto Saudi and build a massive church?..NO
A Denish cartoonist drew a picture of mohomed and muslims were soo angry they asked him to be killed..buddhism is the only religon that never used violence in history but u guys have the guts to blow up a Lord Buddha statue in public

@crazybones2009 mosque have been destroyed and petrol bombed in modern times from bosnia to america. Yes saudi doesnt allow churchs but there are churches through out muslim country including some of the oldest ones.
Denish cartoon angered becasue it was printed in muslim country egypt. Buddhist was never a big religion until the 70's when popular american pop artist & gyspies ect introduced to wstern people were it has become bigger but never a majority. Tibet is becomig aggresive 2 china.

@UAEPASS1..No mosque has been distroyed by the US govt in US if something happnd it must have been little instances where some small group must have thrown something and ran off, but If someone builds a church the Saudi Govt will kill you directly,thats the fact. Don't kid u self man it was a Danish newspaper sold in Denmark, u guys were angry cos it had muhamod wearing a bomb..muslims even paid money to kill him..On Tibet China invaded barbarically..but did u see any suicide bombers from Tibet?

If the buddhists destroyed your oldest Mosque in Saudi arabia or something, or say one of the most important building Islam offered to the world, you know muslims would be up in arms. You're lucky buddhists are pussies. Buddhists were in afghanistan first. Islam ddin't even exist where they were contemplating building that.

@Gobbledychink first of all saudia arabia is MUSLIM STATE. Afghanistan is MUSLIM COUNTRY. Some population of there ancesters converted to buddhism but later converted to islam there for buddism became extinct.
I do not condone these act but my point is this is made by the ancestors of pashtun who are muslim of today.

@UAEPASS1 Fair enough. U sound like a reasonable fellow so this warrants a reasonable response. True it's a muslim country but aren't we told time and time again Islam is a religion of peace? If so, they had no right to destroy those statues. Also I wanna point out you do admit their ancestors weren't muslims which means at some point in history the majority of the population converto and the contry became de facto muslim. Maybe this will happen to France or England, But certainly not EastAsia.

@UAEPASS1 ...by the way Afganithan was a majority Buddhist country for a long time influenced by mourans, especially thru King Ashoka from India...But Mogal empire conqured Afganisthan upto India and its well documented most of them have done huge destruction for buddhist culture and literature ad forcefully converted most of the people

@crazybones2009 fail, ashoka did conqure most of afgnistan but not for long. India a united empire never existed, various empires have conqured india & its current political border was not established until the british conquest.
India has more ethinic groups than any other country. Also India was never a buddhist country it might have originated in india but never was a majority even to this day. These simple facts can easily be obtained by other sources including wikipedia.
