I'm so thrilled that I finally found this wonderful Warner Bros. cartoon. My grandmother talked about a song called "Time Waits for No One" that she heard an ant sing in a cartoon around 60 years ago. I tried to located the song but came to a dead end. Frustrated, I almost gave up when I accidentally stumbled across this while looking for a Disney cartoon. Thank you Yosmosonic for posting this little masterpiece.
I disagree slightly. Friz was #2 when it came to cartoonists. No one could ever hold a candle to Chuck Jones. This, however, is one of Friz's masterpieces!
@legaleagle46 haha yeah well I suppose so! I personally think she wasn't THAT bad... I mean, I've heard a hell of a lot worse XD But thanks for letting me know the name of the song! I didn't expect anyone to know!
Wow, another Merrie masterpiece I've never seen before. It really ticks me off that on the upcoming release of the Looney Tunes on Blu Ray almost all of the cartoons on there are repeated from the golden collection DVD's and not rare masterpieces like this!!
Freleng LOVED doing cartoons about ants {"The Fighting 69 1/2th", "Ballot Box Bunny", "Ant Pasted"}- he finally made one a star at his own DePatie-Freleng studio with "The Ant and the Aardvark" in 1968 (although the Aardvark got the best lines).
@kidcrash2000 Basically, it just means most people prefer not to have onions on their sandwiches (especially in WB cartoon running gags); onions tend to be rather bitter-tasting and can ruin the taste of the sandwich.
The song "Time Waits for No One" (the 1944 Helen Forrest song) was heard originally in 1943's "A Corny Concerto," during the scene after the squirrel shoots down Bugs, Porky and his hunting dog. And I mean this cartoon pre-dated the film that actually featured the song in its soundtrack, "Shine On Harvest Moon."

What song was that that she was singing?
99Blondie 5 months ago
@99Blondie "Time Waits for No One," and judging by the other ants' reactions, I'd say that she murdered it rather than sang it! :D

@legaleagle46: You are correct - it is "Time Waits for No One". though the first five notes are the same as "Tales".

@TheSourceForDVDVHS i'm not sure if it's worth getting it to be honest, with only 10/50 cartoons not being double-dips.
think of it as a way for WHV to get more money to restore even more cartoons.

Funny, now I find I love onions on at least my cheeseburgers, esp grilled onions, yum.
MsPandaRosa 6 months ago
The title is a reference to the expression, "The Gay (meaning joyful and nostalgic) Nineties".
MatthewtheY 10 months ago
@MatthewtheY oh cool! didn't notice that :)

@MatthewtheY
"Gay Nineties" is a bit different when applied to the 1990s.

@ClassicTVMan1981X Actually, that was part of "Tales from the Vienna Woods," not "Time Waits for No One" that was used in "Corny Concerto."
