I use a DiNotte 400L in strobe mode during the day in bright Arizona sunshine. I've had bikers say they could see me from 1/2 mile away. I've also had car drivers come along side me, roll down their window and thank me for having such a bright light! The light is excellent and very well worth the price.
The point of the flashing light is to be seen and it isn't the ability to see. No one actually rides with flashers in the night, do they? It seems ridiculous. I have a Cygolyte 200 and I use it on flash mode only during daylight hours. Many people have commented to me that they are able to see me at 400 Meters and sometimes beyond. I also angle the beam down so as not to blind the oncoming driver.
Flashing lights make it hard to see anything if someone points it near your eyes. It's horrible here in the fall when people use those cheap POS flashers and when they get near, you can't seethe road or it's borders.
How on earth can you ride with a flashing headlight? Enough to trigger epilepsy ... and you're not going to be able to detect irregularities and detritus in the road. Constant beam is the way to go IMO.
@TheVeloWeb Thanks for your comment, VeloWeb. You are right (the hyperbole notwithstanding) that the flashing light can be a pain at night. I normally do not use the flashing light after dark. I run the light steady after dark, and in strobe mode during the day. Thanks again for your comment.
Nice! I've got these lights and they are bright enough that I get cars pulling along side to tell me that I'm the most bright lights they have ever seen.
Nice video, my friend. Excellent "real world" test. Too many videos show the lights from just a few feet away in a dark room. You have set the standard, in my view.
Could you send me a link for that other vid on daylight visibility with your new setup? I checked your channel page--is it there? Any such info is of interest, as the roads I ride can be downright dangerous. What is your cycling involvement--road, mountain, commuting?
With that kind of setup you are actually safer on the road on your bike at night than in the day. Most Cars will go around you like you're a backhoe or something.
I couldn't agree more. You're right that it draws more attention at night, however, it is very visible during the day as well. In fact, with my new setup, which you can see on my other Youtube video on bike lights, I'm pretty hard to miss, even in the daylight.
hello i like your music in your video who is that by? you might be brother or sister in christ that is good because i am a brother in christ to my name is cliff in dayton ohio
One thing I am looking for is a good safety flag that is quickrelease, and involves no hardware remaining on the bike when removed. Do you know where I could find something like that,. The roads I must ride are not at all cyclist freindly--just trying to improve my odds.
Why can't I buy these in England/

I've got this same setup and additionally a second 400L Rear and it looks like a g*d*m fire truck from the rear. Dinotte lights rock!
Don't forget to add a reflective vest it really helps in the twilight and they only cost about $40 (class 3 with sleeves.)
