  • Stalone could only ever be Rocky Balboa. No other role evr fit him except maybe the one in LOck up.

  • This was one of my childhood movies. (probably shouldn't have watched this) lol and I used to cry and have a fit, because I thought she actually died. lol.

  • what a opening, a better film than people give credit for

  • epic!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wolfgang Gullich, the Sly's double in this movie, the best climber in the world.

  • What an idiot! Who takes the love of their life rock climbing on a extremely dangerous mountain unless they want to avoid getting married? Hmmmm!! Now I see his master plan.

  • jake the muss would have saved her

  • its funny as fuck good enough 4 her

  • Unbelivable Opening to a Film Very Gripping.

"Don't let me Fall Gabe I Don't Want to Die"

  • Until you realize that Frank looks like he's laughing. That eases the tension.

  • Yeah I Noticed That, I tried to Ignore it though Bad acting from his part I Guess. I was more focused on the problem at hand with Gabe.

  • Im probably wrong as Im no professional mountain climber/rescuer but wouldnt it have been alot easier if the helicopter just pulled them straight up into the helicopter instead of having to pull them across that great big chasm..??

  • They Said in the Film There was too much Turbulance to be able to pull that off Safley.

I know what you mean though I figured that as well first off.

  • I was wondering the same thing lol but I guess we have to remember that it's a movie.

  • lol, ya thats wat im saying

  • please put the rest it up please man!!

  • Chuck Norris could have saved her.

  • so how was this woman climbing the mountain in the first place if she can't even do one chinup?

  • John Cena could've pulled that woman back up.

  • Sadly, it def was one of those moments that you would never want to go through or even witness.

Still, this was a very violent movie. Alot of things had to be cut to get a R rated film.

I enjoyed the movie but this scene will haunt me everytime I climb for fun at any great height.

  • This is one of the scariest movies of all time for anyone scared of heights

  • Lord, I still remember this movie when I was a kid and I still get goosebumps when I see this.

  • I agree with you. I watched this scene when I was 7 and I was traumatized because it's desesperate and cruel. Now I still remember it.

  • meee tooo!

I was like 6 or 7 and I thought she actually died. It definetly was something I shouldn't have been watching.

  • maybe she didnt die, maybe now she 65 and has a relationship with Jim Morrison

  • Frank looks like hes having a gold ole time. Deliverance dueling banjos style. 7:14

  • so did she live?

  • ...and that guy in the chopper is from Little House On The Prairie!

  • Wait a second! That scene was stolen directly from Ace Ventura when nature calls !!!!

  • More like that scene was stolen from Cliffhanger, obviously...

  • O rly?

  • pardon my ignorance...but who the fuck is Frank

  • What I don't get it how the equipment just snaps...those things can hold a small elephant without breaking.

  • maybe frank took botox

  • I remember going rock climbing for the first time, and being a few hundred feet up and as soon as the instructor started trying to talk confidence into I remember thinking of this scene, lol.

  • Anyone notice that the helicopter is a huey UH-1 (like the primary helicopter in Vietnam) painted red and white. I think alot of people use huey type or models choppers today even for different types of things, logging especially I think.

  • i would've said "Fuck You, I aint climbin' across that shit. u bring the helicopter right here

  • yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The people on the radio told them winds were to turbulent to attempt a wech rescue and the pilot (Jessie) said that she would proceed with wire cross form opposite tower but u know what, I would have said the SAME EXACT THING!!! I'LL TAKE MY CHANCES WITH THE WINDS INSTEAD OF THAT CRAP!!! LOL!!!

  • no shit man!

  • LOL the fuck with Franks face, he has that crazy murder look "DIE DIE DIE!"

  • pause at 7:41 the guy in the back is so fucking happy!!

  • I never noticed before and I've watched this movie zillions of times. top acting - ha

  • LOL

  • anyone know where i can download this movie? pls

  • Try piratebay

  • It was Hal's fault for bringing her there in the first place.

Oh yea, Frank looks like he's laughing the whole time. Especially 7:40 and 8:13. He's like, "YEA!! HAHAHA"

  • best quality harness ever :P

  • why is he laughing at the end?

  • Cliffhanger was a movie released in 1993,How is that a 80's movie?

  • oh boy, what a wonderful way to go -_-

  • How did they shoot this scene?

  • its a great scene and all...but i got two compaints:

    1. Why does everyone think Frank is laghing, he's grimacing....

    2. from 8:27-8:35...wow, on Hal's part. instead of mourning; hes too busy being pissed off at gabe! you'd think after a few days of mourning THAN he'd get angry, but nooo, it had to be now! he got over it quickly! Intence scene though!

  • Made in China ...

  • I actually like this movie, and think it's under rated. Love the visuals and the actress playing Sarah did an good job in this opening scene of her falling. You can see the fear and panic in her eyes. Awesome job.

  • yeah its juts so dramatic it makes u feel like ur in her position but true she does a good job in her role

  • At least she'll be reunited with her teddy bear.

  • That's something that REALLY annoys me about movies from this age: the female main characters are such damsels-in-distress. The only women who are actually capable of any real action are the minor characters.

  • 8.13 LMFAO!!!!!!!!! that oldmans laughing his ass off.

  • 8:13 - LMFAO!!! I agree... what kind of sick old man would be laughing at a woman falling down a cliff?

  • A man who watches funny youtube videos : )

  • Gravity, its a bitch....why didnt he reach down with his other hand when he was holding the cable, he could of used both hands to hold on to her.

  • "Excuse me, Capt Hot-tub"

  • Stallone spent too much time climbing mountains in Sicily. He wasn't cut out for the Rockies.

  • This was filmed in Italy

  • That Scene was also in Ace Ventura.

  • Remember later on in the movie when Tucker says Frank looks like a normal guy but he is not ? lol like insane man. Hey, we have got to take care of our own !

  • Wow I remember seeing this scene on tv when I was really little. It creeped me out.

  • 8:13 for those who want to find the laughing guy

  • her eyes are smiling from Northern Exposure the TV show

  • Yes, it was one of the best death scenes I've ever seen. Except if it was reality, if you think you're going to die, the adrenaline pumping should actually give someone incredible strength, to hold on much longer, to put wings under your ass, to reach further than you ever thought possible.

  • Wow, this brings back memories. My mom, when she was furious with us kids would look like she was smiling. One day we're all jumping on the bed, she walks in and we think she's smiling so we laugh and jump even harder on the bed. Big mistake. Maybe Ralph Waite is my father? lol He's not smiling, he's grimacing.

  • when i first watched this i thought for sure he would save sara i was in shock when she fell.

  • Scariest shit ever, this screwed me up in the theatre!!

  • Forgot to say,1st time I watched this,my stomach dropped like a stone,.......and who would have though the Father from The Waltons(Ralph Waite) flying the helicopter would have such an evil grin on his face when she fell???,lol......

  • Axegames. If you have not seen this movie,I strongly suggest you go on E-Bay and buy it for next to nothing and watch it. Basically it's about a bunch of robbers who hijack a plane in mid-air and it crashes in the snow mountains scattering 3 suitcases full of millions of Dollars and 2 guys are inadvertantly kidnapped into finding the suitcases.....action packed and edge of the seat stuff.Brilliant when it first came out.You will enjoy it ;-)

  • that old man's smile is fucking sadistic!!! he's probably saying to himself "DROP THAT BITCH! YEAH! YEAH!"

  • she does die! ;(

    thiis is a cool scene(:

omg what a nightmare than would bee!

    :O

  • and he basically laughs his ass off when she dies

  • :) i love the fact the old guy smiles :D basically

  • great film scene thanks

  • i think she really died

  • where's the whole movie?

    and i love stallone

  • at the blockbuster

  • 7:42 xD

  • Wolfgang Gullich

  • Dolomites near Belluno Italy

  • "Use your other hand!" lol, what a fuckwit.

  • At 7:20 and 7:40 that guy in the background looks really happy she's gonna die.

  • hahaha so true so true xD

  • oh god this movie had so suspense :D

  • Old Frank is grinning with glee because he secretly masterminded the whole incident :) Muhahahahaha... :D

  • Parts of this movie were filmed in Colorado/Arizona, and other parts in Italy, if I am not mistaken.

  • This movie's alternate title is "Die Hard on a Cliff"

  • Renny Harlin's best film tho Die Hard 2 is close.

  • he's not smiling , thats the dude from the tv series the waltons think he was the father , thats the way was in that show too

  • The stunt double for stallone died in a car crash go figure.

  • splat

  • she is one scared bitch who doesn't wanna die ! lol Not bad acting but not great. Difficult thing to act, needing a lot of intensity. it could have been done a bit more convincingly.. hence the fact we've never seen that actress in much else

  • Anyone remember seeing this seen being spoofed in Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls - with the raccoon!!!!! - LOL!!!!

  • I thought I was the only one who noticed he laughed

  • one of the best death scenes in movie history, and all the better because it happens to a young woman. usually they get 'let of the hook' (accidental pun) in films especiially if they are pretty. Fate is no respecter of good looks, age or gender. Good scene. Well acted too, love her panic.

  • Comment removed

  • Dolomites!

  • hmmmmm....u need lots of guts to do it for real.......

  • Holy shit, this still gives me sweaty hands after all those years! Intense!

  • dont worry folks, she not actually hanging from a cliff, shes in a studio with pillows beneath her.

    u can thank me later

  • The story goes that old man frank had a bad drinking problem, mountain rescue authority Where going to to take old franks postion into review after he made some mistakes while he was drunk and on the job, NOW this is where it gets interesting, One of the high rankers at the Mountain rescue authority was infact Sara, So frank while drunk again, sabotages her harnes in an attemp to keep his job, he knew that hal would be blamed and thats why he is smiling, All this time he got away with it

  • Are you being serious? Where did you get this story from? Would explain the smiling which I thought was just terrible acting haha

  • (imdb) Revealing mistakes: During the dramatic first scene as Gabe is trying to hold onto Sarah and she's screaming - the helicopter pilot is grinning. Then when she falls, he actually laughs out loud.

  • Buy a dictionary and look up the word "grimace", bright spark

  • This scene is completely ruined when you realise the old guy is smiling the whole time in the background. lol

  • Man, I couldn't stop laughing when I realised what you were talking about :)

  • Haha, i'm glad you agree, it is hilarious ;)

  • F***in Intense!

  • One of the most thrilling movie openers evar period

  • Truly terrifying.

To this day I want to throttle the woman in the audience I saw this with who said "One down" when poor Sarah fell. The cow.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! One down. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!

  • My wife and I saw this movie in the theatre, seeing this scene on the wide screen was like "oh F***!

  • good movie

  • I still cant get over the bit in the film where he has to quickly grab Jessy, THE FUCKING MUSCLES IN HIS NECK!

  • She knew for a good minute or so that she was ****ed. The contemplation of her inevitable fall to death would've been psychological torture.

  • Most are in denial during the fall.

  • lol.

they say "no" gravity says "mmm yeah, i think so".

  • And thats why u dont go climbing mountains like a fucking prick !!! LMFAO @ Frank laughing hahahahahahaahahah

  • He wasn't laughing! He was helping to pull on the rope and was gritting his teeth!

  • it definitely looked like he was laughing...that and sarah's scream make this one of the funniest scenes ever

  • yes its a great film lol really gory and violent but i was wondering wat age is it rated?

  • where's superman when u need him lol,LUV THIS MOVIE

  • @ 7:19 - what's up with Frank what's so funny? - He's just taking the piss here. No wonder they killed him after. :-)

  • LoL, my friend and I noticed that one night too watching this.

  • That's right, I watched it too, I couldn't stop laughing when I saw Frank! lol

  • I feel that if Stallone, when in the gym, had concentrated less on the bench press and more on the bicep curl he would have saved this poor woman`s life.

  • Arnold could have pulled the woman back up. :)

  • This scene is pretty creepy. Horrible way to die.

Just saw it on TV though, and noticed Frank's face. First class acting there. It looks like he's pissing himself laughing, lol xD

It's a great movie scene of course, but it's so ridiculous in places.

How did a rookie get onto a giant rock peak? Why does the helicopter feel the need to string a rickety line across a deathtrap instead of a direct lift?

Finally, how does a slight weight slice a big metal buckle in half? o_0

    Good though ^^

  • The creators of the movie got in so much trouble from the manufacturers of the climbing equipment, due to making out that the climbing equipment failed. This would not happen. But you can't hide the fact that Sly rocks!

  • This movie is awesome. It's got great action and the dialogue is fun. Sure it's completely inaccurate and fake (my favorite is when Stallone swims under the ice in freezing water and then comes out without any injuries) but this is what makes it so fun to watch. Stallone has a remarkable talent at making sports look and feel extremely exciting.

  • I love that second guy smile at 7:41. Real classy.

  • hahaha good one.. :3

the reason why they didnt pull ladder from helicopter on the first time is most amusing... heh

  • I hate this movie i wish they never made it! Not one second is accurate. Harnesses dont melt away not even and a stress lab. Single petons dont hold helicopters....ever! And silly non climbing holes dont get dragged to the top of spires for a good time! Stallone couldn't climb a latter.

  • But Sly rocks as always.

  • so essentially you're saying you only enjoy ACCURATE movies? lol also, be informed in was listed in the credits, that the climbing equipment was purposely rigged to break. Alas, for a person trying to sound so eloquent and informed..you spelled ladder incorrectly, fella

  • So essentially what you are saying is you are the You Tube typo police? Saving the world one typo at a timein the comments section? lol Of course the harness was rigged that way. Thats the whole point. I dont care if you where listed in the credits for rigging the George Washington Bridge. The scene looks Stupid. Everyone with knowledge of these harnesses or climbing (not you) finds it to be Satirical! Even Wolfgang Güllich who was in the movie (you might want to check the credits) laughed.

  • Typo police? No..far from it, as I made a typo of my own in my first reply. What you did was blatantly mispell ladder with latter. That's not the point though, I just had to mention it, cause I'm a dick like that. The point is, you take this movie (this scene, at least) way too seriously. You're right though..I don't have an intimate knowledge of harnesses, nor do I need it. I enjoy the movie for what it is..entertainment. Glad you're passionate about climbing, but to take issue with a MOVIE?

  • So now its the take it to serious police. Arent you the one who checked the credits to see that it was rigged? Your right fella, it is just a movie. And a movie is open to criticism from whom ever watches it. Critiszing other peoples criticism? Thats too serious. It is also too serious to troll the comments for typos to start YouTube discussions. Dick. The REAL point is the movie is Stupid (in some opinions). If you need people to talk to try going outside.

  • I'm not concerned with your opinion of the movie. I also didn't troll the comments for typos. I saw that you were bashing the movie because it's inaccurate, which to me is silly. Even biographic movies are inaccurate. P.S. Your last reply had mispelled words and typos alike..but I wont mention them. Oops.

  • HaHa Typo police again! You must be confused. If you are not concerned with my opinion of the movie then why did you reply to it in the first place? Are you the silly comment police as well? Wow I just thought you where a plain old limp dick. Anyway why would I care about typos when I have you the Comment Troll. lol

  • There's a difference between typos, and outright unintelligence. Why do you keep insisting I'm some sort of variant of the police? I point out your shortcomings and childlike ability to structure sentences, and all of the sudden, I'm typo/silly comment police?

  • in was listed in the credits HAHAHA give me back your badge typo police! HAHAHAHA

  • okay guys break it up.

  • this is why i go to the movies... i like that emotional high they bring... one of the best scenes in sly's long list of filmography

  • Sylvester Stallone is The Greatest!!!!!... Renny Harlin is Great!!!!!...

  • That would suck so bad. Maybe she should have reached up and grabbed him.

  • oh noooooo... the teddy beer is dead.. snif

  • The climbing is impressive for a reason - they got one of the best climbers in the world, a man called Wolfgang Gullich to be the climbing double for Stallone.

  • Ironically, Wolfgang Güllich got through "Cliffhanger" intact but he was killed in a car accident at sea level after production ended... the end credits have a dedication to him.

  • What fell out of her jacket at 6:42?

  • sigh, its always the ones that say "i dont wana die" that always die.

  • yaghhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Silly bitch. Goodbye.

  • I loved this scene! Nicely acted and i like the way they built it up, jus as it would be with no suspicion that they were about to have a tragedy. I like the way she was nervous about it. Kind of sickening but thrilling to see her get it. The cute girl doesnn;t die often enough in movies, maybe that is just me though!

  • I know it's a movie and all but is anyone else thinking "if you can use the other hand to cover your face in shame after she falls then why couldn't you reach out and use both arms to pull her up?" I suppose it could be the fact he didn't have both legs wrapped around the wire, I know nothing about cliffhanging

  • well....man is not meant to climb to where only eagles dwell...thats what she gets ):I

  • 7:18 look at the old man smiling

  • Gabe looks alot more worried than the boyfriend, don't ya think??

  • when i was young, i had nightmares with this movie, this part scared me... Always I seeing, i remer that...

Even though this, i loved this movie

  • This was what I noticed when I saw this in the theatre..... Sly was holding on with one hand, while he was securely harnessed to the line.

He could have safely let go with both hands, and grabbed her (but then we wouldn't have a movie, would we?).

  • oh yeah, but yea youre right if he would have saved her it wouldnt be good

  • holy crap, thats soooooooooo funni how the pilot guy is smiling with a huge laugh. lol..

    halarious!!

  • i know! It looks like he is totally enjoying it haha

  • Don't... Look... DOWN!.. Ahhhhh

  • every time i watch this scene i think im gonna throw up!! just think if you where in that position in real life an u felt urself slipping down and down and down oh god!

  • I would try not to cry out if that were me. In your last minutes of life, you have to be brave.

  • That's right. Personally, I would scream, but it would go something like this; And now, the end is near; And so I face the final curtain. My friend, Ill say it clear, Ill state my case, of which Im certain. Ive lived a life thats full. Ive traveled each and evrey highway; And more, much more than this, I did it my way. Regrets, Ive had a few; But then again, too few to mention. I did what I had to do And... *SPLAT*
  • nice poem. lol

  • HAHA, have you noticed that the whole time she is slipping the helicopter pilot next to Hal is smiling. He has a massive grin on his face the whole time!

  • BEST part of the whole film! lol

  • I guess you're right jacksonn. I just fail.

Yeah, I think there's a little less risk in winching someone with wind than landing a helicopter on a rock with wind! It is just a movie, and this is a very dramatic scene, but it still reminds me of that MacGyver episode where good old Mac hooks a wire to that helicopter and hand cranks it down with the winch on the back of an old jeep.
