During the invocation one imagines themselves to be clothed in an image of Thoth. It's simple. Simply choose the deity suitable to the invocation and clothe yourself in it.

The trick is to practice until some sort of result is produced. You'll know when you succeed. The results are unmistakable.

Other than that I can't think of a better way to produce the radically altered state of consciousness so conducive to successful results.
